Pace Forecast: Very Strong
Draw Bias: No statistical bias recorded at this trip.
Pace Angle: A truly run race is predicted. Typically, prominent racers are favoured over this trip at Gowran, but the expected end-to-end gallop may play into the hands of those with a strong closing kick and blunt some of the usual on-speed advantage. This could hinder Umala, who races keenly and tends to be forward-going, and favour closers such as Nancy J.

Key Contenders
NANCY J (109 Timeform Adj. Rating)
Improved last time in first-time cheekpieces when fifth in a strong Curragh handicap over 7f. Shaped as though this longer trip will suit. Likely to be suited by a strongly-run race and enters calculations with pace and profile in her favour.
DERESSA (107)
Progressive filly from the Weld yard, unbeaten in two runs this season, both over this course and distance. She stays well, has form with cut, and showed a good attitude last time. From a yard in good form, and clearly a ‘horse for course’. The likely pace scenario may test her tactical speed, but she’s still improving.
HEAVENS GATE (106)
A Group 3 winner at 2, she’s been pitched into deep waters since but was beaten out of sight in the French 1000 Guineas last time. Drops markedly in grade here. Has form on a range of goings and gets the services of Wayne Lordan. Likely to race handily, though may not get her own way up front given the expected pace pressure.
AND SO TO BED (106)
Useful and lightly raced, but bombed on reappearance in the Athasi Stakes. May come on for that run, and her 2yo form stacks up reasonably. One of several from Joseph O’Brien in with a chance.
INVENTRESS (98p)
Unexposed and improving for the Twomey stable (trainer profitable when sending just one runner to a flat meeting). Bolted up at Gowran last time on only her second career start. Open to significant improvement. This is a step up in class, but connections merit respect.

Interesting Outsiders
VIKING INVASION (99)
Showed promise last time in a good Naas handicap, unlucky not to finish closer. Has form over this trip and goes well at Gowran. Can race prominently or track the pace, and if settling early could be involved at a price.
GREEN TRIANGLE (100+)
Another O’Brien runner. A bit temperamental and often close up, she ran creditably last time and the visor/tongue tie combo is retained. Slight stamina query, but she’s a player if she settles and the race unfolds ideally.
UMALA (102)
Could go forward but will need to settle better. Might be vulnerable late in this kind of setup. Worth monitoring for a potential market drift given her enthusiastic racing style and being stretched last time.

Hold-up Types That May Need Luck in Running:
Nancy J, Inventress, Green Triangle
Trainers to Note:
Dermot Weld has won this race twice in the past decade and has the track specialist Deressa.
Joseph O’Brien holds a strong hand (four runners), led by And So To Bed and Green Triangle.
Paddy Twomey is 14–45 in the past year with 3yo fillies and Inventress has serious upside.
Jessica Harrington has two in here, both returning fairly quickly – Nancy J (9 days) and Fiona Maccoul (28 days), the former is of much more interest.
Layoff Watch:
No runners return from 90+ days; market still worth watching for support for unexposed types like Inventress on second run and those with sketchy temperament signs like Green Triangle.

Each-Way Angles (11 runners)
Viking Invasion – Form of last run has substance, possibly underestimated, could sneak a place if settling.
Inventress – Unexposed, strong connections, ideal pace setup for a late closer if she takes the step up.

Summary
This Listed contest looks well-contested with an expected strong pace that could swing the balance away from keen types. Nancy J gets the nod based on her upwardly mobile profile, suitability to the setup, and strong recent effort in a handicap. Deressa and Inventress are both progressive and represent top yards, while Heavens Gate brings Group form but needs to bounce back. The Joseph O’Brien pair And So To Bed and Green Triangle have place claims, and Viking Invasion is the value outsider. Market strength for Inventress (second start) could be telling.
