Key Contenders & Notables
Strongest Contender – ARCH LEGEND (70, 8/10)
Ruth Carr’s gelding signalled a clear return to form when second at Beverley eight days ago. That was his best run for some time, shaping like a winner-in-waiting. Carr is 1 from 2 in this race in the past decade. Prominent racing style is a plus given conditions.
Main Dangers
- AIGHEAR (67, 7/10) – Stayed on well over 17f latest and was second in an apprentices’ race. Conditions are fine. Generally consistent in Class 6 staying events and ideally drawn.
- CRYSTAL GUARD (64, 6/10) – Has run respectably since wind surgery. The drop in trip is not a help, but he’s running well and has placed form in better races than this. Hold-up runner – needs pace and luck.
- HOT TEAM (64+, 6/10) – Still 5lb below his last winning mark, and his prominent style will suit if the pace is even. Hasn’t really fired in 2025, but past course form gives him a shout.
Interesting Outsiders
- ANGELICA CATALANI (64, 5/10) – Not seen since January. That form hasn’t worked out, but her fifth in a fair Southwell handicap shows she has a squeak if fully wound up. Market check advised after 154 days off.
- FANAIGI LINN (65, 4/10) – Needed the run last time following a long break and breathing op. Bits of form from 2024 would give her a chance off this mark if back to that level.
Trainer Note: Jim Goldie (Krissy, Aighear) trained the 2023 winner Bouncing Bobby. His pair could go well, particularly Aighear who shaped as if close to a win.
Trends:
- The last 2 winners of this race carried 9st7lb+ and were drawn in mid-to-high stalls.
- Both recent winners were returned at 7/1 or 9/1, indicating value can be found outside the top of the market.
Flags / Positional Concerns:
- Crystal Guard, Lady Phoebe, Sugarpiehoneybunch and Angelica Catalani all have profiles suggesting they need things to fall right late. Risk of luck-in-running issues.
- Krissy is unexposed in handicaps, worth noting on debut at this level despite limited form.

Each-Way Angles (15 runners)

Private Tissue Estimate
- 3/1 Arch Legend
- 5/1 Aighear
- 13/2 Crystal Guard
- 7/1 Hot Team
- 10/1 Straya
- 12/1 Angelica Catalani
- 12/1 Sugarpiehoneybunch

Summary
A low-grade handicap with plenty of usual suspects but one clear standout in Arch Legend, who arrives in better nick than most and is well positioned to take advantage of this mark. Aighear is consistent and solid each-way material, while Crystal Guard could run into the frame with luck from off the pace. Market support for lightly raced or returning types like Angelica Catalani or Krissy would be significant. Hold-up runners face some risk unless the race turns into a true test.
