1. Race Conditions & Pace/Draw Analysis
This is a 0–70 Class 5 fillies’ handicap over 7f on Chelmsford’s polytrack. The pace is expected to be even, which generally puts hold-up types at a disadvantage at this track and trip—unless there’s a genuine collapse up front. As such, prominent racers or those with tactical speed are preferred. No draw bias has been indicated, but Chelmsford’s round track has historically offered more assistance to those drawn middle to low and racing prominently.

2. Contenders, Dangers & Profiles
Strongest Contenders:
ORNATELY (Fanshawe) [76] – Settled better and ran a career-best when runner-up at Wolverhampton last time (slow pace). Well treated off 70, tactically versatile, and acts well on synthetic. Trainer in form and continues to place horses effectively. Can race close up.
STELLA HOGAN (Appleby) [75] – 3 wins this year including over CD in March. Back to winning ways under today’s apprentice at Kempton latest (8f). Quirky but capable when things go right. Drop back to 7f not a concern.
THE NEW BAY PEARL (Varian) [71] – Returned to form latest, finishing well from rear over a mile at Kempton. Still unexposed and from a yard with 23% strike rate at Chelmsford since 2021. Could need a stronger pace than forecast.
MAIDS HEAD (Botti) [74] – Blinkers back on and showed better form last time when fourth, best of the closers. Effective at this trip and handles this surface.
Main Dangers:
WINDSOR PASS (Butler) [74] – Course winner. Has placed on her last three AW starts here and at Newbury on turf. CD scorer who stays further, though best runs have come in apprentices’ races.
HILLTOP (Kubler) [71] – Returns from a long break (356 days) but interesting if the yard has her straight. Was running respectably in stronger company last spring.
AMERICAN TREASURE (Williams) [64p] – Unexposed handicap debutante. Big price last time at Kempton, but previously shaped well at Southwell. Sister to winners and looks the type to improve now handicapping.
Interesting Outsiders:
RIFT VALLEY (Fanshawe) [73] – Pulled too hard last time but was progressive previously. Second runner for Fanshawe, and given the rating and profile, not dismissed easily if settling better.
PRINCESS PW (Kelleway) [71] – Has shown bits and pieces, mostly when ridden forward. On a fair mark but needs to sharpen up again.
FLORIDA DAWN (Johnston) [70] – Has bombed out the last twice but showed ability earlier in the year. Johnston’s yard going well, and this prominent racer could bounce back if freshened.
Notes:
Hold-up risk/needs luck: The New Bay Pearl, Maids Head, Rift Valley
Trainers to note: No previous winning trainers from this race over the last five renewals. However, Varian, Fanshawe, and Appleby all have strong Chelmsford records and enter live chances.

4. Each-Way Angles (13 runners)
THE NEW BAY PEARL – Unexposed and shaped better latest. If breaking on terms and the pace is honest, should stay on late.
MAIDS HEAD – Back in form and capable of running into a place if held-up tactics work out.

6. Summary
This looks a competitive fillies’ handicap with a few formful types facing unexposed improvers. ORNATELY appeals most following a personal best effort at Wolverhampton, especially with the trainer in flying form. STELLA HOGAN and THE NEW BAY PEARL are dangers with recent solid efforts, while MAIDS HEAD is a live each-way player back at 7f. Market support for AMERICAN TREASURE should be respected now entering handicaps. Be wary of those coming off layoffs or consistently failing to settle, especially in a race with no predicted pace burn-up.
