17:20 SOUTHWELL – SKY SPORTS RACING SKY 415 HANDICAP HURDLE (Class 5, 3m 60y, 0–105, 4yo+)Going: Good | Runners: 6

·

Pace Forecast: Very Weak
Pace Hint: With little guaranteed pace on, the race may become tactical. That could favour ALWAYS BUSY, who typically races handily, more than EDGEWELL, who’s a habitual hold-up performer. No draw bias in NH races of this type.

Leading Contenders

SHADOWS IN THE SKY – [TFR 111, OR 104] – Continues in good form since joining James Owen, who has a 21% strike rate with staying hurdlers and in summer overall. Won well at Uttoxeter and ran with credit in two subsequent placed efforts over fences. Now switches back to hurdles, and notably wears headgear for the first time for this yard. The return to a smaller field and slower pace may suit his rhythm and jumping better.

ALWAYS BUSY – [TFR 110, OR 105] – Dual-purpose sort who got back on track over fences here last time when well-backed and ran away from the field. That win came after two pulled-up efforts, but he travelled well and found plenty. He’s 5 lb lower over hurdles and with no strong pace forecast, he could dictate matters if allowed to bowl along.

EDGEWELL – [TFR 109, OR 98] – Dual course winner including over C&D in February. Poor on latest start when lame, and dropped out as usual. He’s reliant on things falling right, especially in a slowly-run race, and may be seen to better effect with more pace.

Interesting Outsiders

MYFAVOURITESISTER – [TFR ?, OR 79] – Lightly raced 6yo with low-level form so far, but does step back up to 3m here and gets in off a feather weight. Jumping remains a work in progress, but she shaped a little better at Wetherby. Trainer Patrick Neville’s runners often need time, so any support would be notable.

SHE HAS NOTIONS – [TFR 108§, OR 79] – Now rated just 79, but has been competitive in low-level chases before. Pulled up last time but has placed over this sort of trip, and the 10lb claimer takes plenty of weight off. Connections fit both cheekpieces and tongue tie again – one to treat cautiously, but not impossible if the race collapses.

GLOBAL ASSEMBLY – [TFR -, OR 90] – Back hurdling after a poor chase spell and two PU efforts. Little encouragement from his 30-length tenth on hurdles debut. Had a breathing op before that run. Needs to improve a great deal and may need more time.

Additional Trends & Trainer Notes

Trainer James Owen (Shadows in the Sky): 21% strike rate with stayers and 21% summer strike rate, both strong figures.

No past winners from current trainers in this specific race, but Owen’s profile suggests his runner is likely to be forward.

Always Busy ran well here on return and won despite a significant Betfair SP in-running dip – indicative of strength under pressure.

> Market Watch: Shadows in the Sky and Always Busy are consistent, but Edgewell (last start lame), Myfavouritesister (off 73 days), and Global Assembly (off a breathing op and now on 6-day turnaround) should be watched closely for support or drifting. No runners making a second start or stepping into handicaps for the first time.

Private Tissue Estimate

1. Shadows in the Sky – 15/8

2. Always Busy – 2/1

3. Edgewell – 6/1

4. Myfavouritesister – 13/2

5. She Has Notions – 12/1

6. Global Assembly – 33/1

Summary

A trappy small-field contest where the absence of a solid pace could hand the initiative to Always Busy, particularly off a lower hurdles mark. Shadows in the Sky is a solid yardstick in good form and returns to hurdling with headgear now applied. Edgewell needs more pace than looks likely, while Myfavouritesister is worth keeping tabs on in the market from her low mark. Tactical awareness will be crucial here.
