Pace & Draw Assessment:
This is a small field of eight over 1m4½f on the Tapeta. With no significant draw bias reported at this trip and a predicted even pace, it may not favour the regular front-runners nor suit extreme hold-up types needing a collapse. Horses that can settle just behind the pace might be best placed. Notably, CHILLHI is a habitual slow starter and could require race circumstances to fall ideally to challenge late, while LEDNIKOV is usually up with the pace and may control matters if allowed an uncontested lead.

Contenders & Comments:
CHILLHI – Timeform TFR 78, back down to a workable mark and now with James Owen (noted for smart placement), who has a strong Wolverhampton record (22% strike rate). Recent 2nd over hurdles, shaped better on the Flat latest despite being 5 lb wrong. Clearly on a recovery path, but needs things to fall right from off the pace. Market support would be notable.
PYSANKA – TFR 75, strong course profile (five Wolverhampton wins), most recently second to Educate over CD. Often slowly away, but thrives here when things drop right. Comes here in form, consistent when headgear is retained.
EDUCATE – TFR 75, improved to win latest start narrowly from Pysanka. Lightly raced 4yo who could still have more in hand. Blinkers are off, tongue tie retained. Holds form claims but may need to prove he’s not just a one-off scorer.
LEDNIKOV – TFR 76, three-time winner this spring and still running respectably. A prominent racer who could be suited by this even pace scenario. Recent form behind better-treated rivals is solid, and he’s consistent in apprentice contests. Has the profile to go close.
SEA OF CHARM – TFR 74, exposed but reliable. Placed on her last three runs, including a CD second to Pysanka and a solid Brighton effort latest. Another who runs well when it falls her way, though often trades short and finds little late.
EMACULATE SOLDIER – TFR 71, improved in first-time blinkers when winning here over further, made all and stayed on strongly. If the headgear has the same effect again, not dismissed lightly. Has only recently proven effectiveness at the trip.
LAWMANS BLIS – TFR 74, returns to the Flat after mixed hurdling efforts. Well suited to Wolverhampton historically and another back on a fair mark, but the yard hasn’t been firing. Last Flat run was a solid enough fifth in a fair Catterick handicap.
KING’S CASTLE – No current rating, off for 261 days and new to David Simcock. Has strong hurdle form from 2024 and a decent Flat profile prior to that. Has gone well fresh and this trip is ideal, but watch the market given long layoff.

Ratings out of 10:
CHILLHI – 8 – Capable if timing is right; watch for market signals (trainer switch + profile).
PYSANKA – 7.5 – Proven CD form; in consistent heart.
EDUCATE – 7 – Progressive but still needs to back up latest win.
LEDNIKOV – 7.5 – Solid, reliable, and likely to be well placed tactically.
SEA OF CHARM – 6.5 – Likeable but place claims more than win.
EMACULATE SOLDIER – 6.5 – May not get things as easy up front today; chance with repeat effort.
LAWMANS BLIS – 6 – Competitive but lacks sparkle currently.
KING’S CASTLE – 5.5 – Talented but a long time off; market watch essential.

Each-Way Angle:
With 8 runners, standard place terms apply. LEDNIKOV and PYSANKA both have consistent profiles, strong recent figures, and CD form, making them viable each-way considerations.

Private Tissue Estimate:
CHILLHI – 4/1
PYSANKA – 9/2
LEDNIKOV – 5/1
EDUCATE – 5/1
EMACULATE SOLDIER – 13/2
SEA OF CHARM – 15/2
KING’S CASTLE – 10/1
LAWMANS BLIS – 12/1

Summary:
This 1m4½f Class 6 Tapeta handicap looks tightly knit, with CHILLHI the most intriguing given his new yard and recent positive run over hurdles. He’s off a career-low mark and could build on that. PYSANKA and LEDNIKOV are solid and likeable types for the grade, while EDUCATE could still be improving. Watch for support for KING’S CASTLE, returning from 261 days off under an in-form trainer. With plenty of hold-up types in the field, tactical speed and position will be crucial.
