14:30 Gowran Park – Golf At Gowran Park Handicap3yo | 7f | €6,900 | Yielding ground | 15 runners

·

Pace Forecast: Strong
Draw Bias: Strongly favours low
Race Shape Note: Gowran’s 7f with cut in the ground generally rewards prominent racers drawn low. This looks an evenly run handicap on paper, but the pace should hold up, making it harder for deep closers like Moonhall Lass and Withoutfurtherado.

Contenders & Profiles

LOVELY (Drawn 2)
Improved sharply when landing a 14-runner handicap at Fairyhouse on good ground. Well-bred filly who was well positioned that day. While the win may have flattered her slightly (pace sat), she is unexposed, handles good ground, and the draw looks ideal. Has 1lb more but is still fairly treated on profile.

WASHINGTON STREET (Drawn 11)
€300,000 buy, shaped okay in two backend maidens and reappeared with a tame effort in May. Now handicapping for the first time, which looks the plan. Could improve but draw is high and stable has cooled slightly. Wouldn’t want a dawdle.

ASDANA (Drawn 6)
Consistent, holding form well for a trainer in flying form. Placed last twice over inadequate trips and shapes as if this test will suit. Holds a handy draw, prominent run style suits, and he’s one of the few here with multiple back-to-back efforts in the frame. Improving slightly – respected.

WITHOUTFURTHERADO (Drawn 10)
Better effort last time when midfield at the Curragh, but needs things to fall right. Generally a hold-up horse who won’t be suited by today’s predicted pace setup. Only moderate progress since leaving Mrs Harrington.

ARCTIC STEPS (Drawn 8)
Caused a 66/1 surprise at Down Royal last time. Lightly raced and has upside, but that win came off a fast pace, and she may not get the same setup today. Still, she’s unexposed and may hold her form. Draw neutral.

MOONHALL LASS (Drawn 14)
Better judged on penultimate third at Roscommon. Wide draw here with hold-up tactics is a negative. Would likely prefer more cut and a stronger pace. Risky.

GIVEHERTILXMAS (Drawn 13)
Has shown small steps of improvement from poor early form. Now drops into a lower mark and ran better than the bare result last time. Not well drawn and lacks tactical speed, but could outrun odds.

NIGHT MAGIC (Drawn 3)
Heavily supported on reappearance but flopped. May need further, and while trainer is hot, this filly is now 0-3 and has questions to answer. That said, drawn low and could be sharper this time.

HIGHBURY SEE SEE (Drawn 1)
Ran well in a Curragh handicap over 6.3f and shapes like a future winner in this grade. Has a perfect draw, races prominently, and trainer tends to improve them gradually. Could be the best value if able to back up last run.

BAMAKO (Drawn 15)
Visored and improved sharply when second at Down Royal. Will need to defy a very wide draw and repeat the effort under similar ground. Watch for market strength – profile is patchy but better last time.

BLACKJACK HILLS / ETHEREAL STAR / THE DARK BARON / KILGHARRAHS LOVE / BOYNE VALLEY
Hard to fancy strongly on exposed form or recent efforts. Ethereal Star and Kilgharrahs Love showed minor steps forward but lack tactical pace and race from wide positions.

Summary

This handicap could reward a low-drawn, forward-going type with tactical speed. Highbury See See ticks all boxes after a solid effort in a better race and should appreciate today’s setup. Asdana brings consistency and fitness and could improve again. Lovely comes off a surprise win and has an ideal draw to follow up. Keep an eye on Washington Street, who may be primed for this handicap debut.
