15:05 Gowran Park – Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Handicap (3yo+, 7f, €14,400)

·

Going: Yielding
Field: 10 runners
Pace Forecast: Strong
Draw Bias: Favours Low
Tactical Setup: Although a strong pace is forecast, historically at this trip on yielding ground at Gowran Park, prominent racers—especially drawn low—retain a strong edge. Deep closers needing cover risk traffic or failing to reel back those up top.

Contender Breakdown

Empress Artemis (G. Lyons)
Progressive 3yo who shaped nicely on handicap debut at the Curragh. Made ground from the rear and stuck on well over 1m. The drop back to 7f with a strong pace should suit. Trainer/jockey combo strong. Unexposed and improving. Promising type.

Neo Smart (J. S. Bolger)
Won at the Curragh in April and remains on a workable mark. Possibly stretched at Naas last time; return to 7f ideal. Tactically versatile but has a tendency to flatten if pace collapses. Proven, but no obvious progression.

Declaree (J. P. Murtagh)
Reliable sort with a decent record at Gowran. Didn’t get the run of the race at Roscommon latest; better judged on earlier placed effort here. Usually races handily and draw is ideal. Proven at track and trip.

Gypsy Queen (W. McCreery)
Improved markedly to win her maiden at Fairyhouse. Unexposed with obvious upside, though that was over 6f and she now takes on older fillies on different ground. Trainer in form. Promising but no handicap experience yet.

Mother Mara (G. O’Leary)
Career-best second at Fairyhouse latest when well ridden into a pace collapse. Back down the weights and getting weight from most. Tactically well positioned again if she jumps sharply. Progressive within grade, but pace-sensitive.

Ribchestina (M. D. O’Callaghan)
Bounced back from a long layoff with a front-running second at Cork. That was a steady-run affair and she had the run of things. Likelier to face pressure here. Fragile profile, may regress with pace pressure.

Four Blondes (R. O’Sullivan)
Front-runner who has shown ability at Gowran in the past. Out of form this season but drops into calmer waters. Strong draw and pace profile, but requires a leap of faith on recent runs. Proven, but regressive.

Marakesh (H. de Bromhead)
Course winner whose better efforts come at this venue. Below form last time but shaped well when second here in April. Needs to bounce back but has a fair shout if refitted mentally. Proven, not progressive.

Honeysuckle Rose (Joseph O’Brien)
Third start of season and still lightly raced. Solid Dundalk win in December but didn’t fire at Cork on return. Likely sharper now and drop back in trip not certain to suit. Trainer in form. Promising, but unproven on turf.

Tai Tam Bay (E. & P. Harty)
Bounced back to form at the Curragh in March but regressed since. Often starts slowly, which is a negative in this field. Needs to rediscover spark and start better. Unpredictable, profile flattening.

Taking all into account (form, ratings, profiles, trainer trends):

Declaree – 4/1

Gypsy Queen – 5/1

Neo Smart – 11/2

Each-Way Angles (10 runners)

With 10 runners declared and a few exposed types, there’s scope for a value play. Mother Mara (weight swing and tactical angle) and Declaree (track specialist) look to offer place value if the shorteners take pressure.

Summary

A competitive fillies’ handicap with a strong pace forecast, suiting those drawn low and ridden with intent. Empress Artemis appeals as a well-handicapped improver who shaped well at the Curragh and should relish the return to 7f. Declaree is solid, especially around Gowran, while Gypsy Queen has upside but more to prove tactically. Market support for any second-start 3yo (Empress Artemis, Gypsy Queen, Honeysuckle Rose) should be respected.

Most Likely Winner: Empress Artemis
Main Danger: Declaree
Each-Way Angle: Mother Mara
