1. Race Conditions & Tactical Setup
Type: Class 5 Handicap Hurdle, 4yo+
Trip: 2 miles (Good ground)
Field Size: 10 runners
Pace Forecast: Weak – Little obvious early pace.
Track Bias: Generally suits prominent racers but this setup could favour tactical speed.
Pace Note: A slow early tempo likely makes this a tactical affair. CARLTON, already proven under similar conditions, is well suited. Conversely, runners needing a test of stamina (e.g., HOLY LEGEND, JEWEL OF WINDSOR) could find this pace scenario against them.

2. Contenders, Dangers & Notables
🟩 Clear Favourite
CARLTON (TFR 114p)
Trainer: James Owen | Jockey: Henry Brooke
Rattled home under a motionless ride last week at Southwell, smashing the field by 8½ lengths. Flat form solid, and profile screams progressive. Carries a 7lb penalty but is 15–20lbs well-in on form. Trainer has a 23% strike rate with hurdlers up to 2m2f. Very strong claims.
🟨 Main Dangers
INIT TOGETHER (TFR 107)
Trainer: Tony Carroll
Consistent if moderate over hurdles, but comes here off a productive winter on the Flat. Placed in last 3 hurdle starts in Ireland and switches to a yard that can place one in these races. Handles good ground and could be the best of the rest.
EZ TIGER (TFR 106)
Trainer: Alex Hales
Fair effort when last seen 214 days ago. Won twice last autumn before finishing runner-up. Hood/tongue tie combination continues, but the layoff and the presence of a progressive type dent his win claims slightly.
🟦 Others Worth Mentioning
HOLY LEGEND (TFR 102) – Adam Wedge keeps the ride. Lightly raced, could be open to progress, but profile is patchy. Often jumps right and has stamina-heavy form.
KINGSTON BRESIL (TFR 101) – Little substance to recent efforts, though has had wind surgery and drops in grade. Unconvincing on balance.
JEWEL OF WINDSOR (TFR 100) – Another with stamina-laden profile and little tactical speed. Ground should suit, but not the setup.
🔍 Negative Profiles / Outsiders
NEVER SEEN AGAIN – Ex-Irish bumper type who’s been well held in all four hurdle starts. TFR 96 is generous; low-level ability.
OPTICALITY / SHABANO – Very weak profiles and form figures; neither shaped like winning anytime soon.

3. Suitability Ratings (out of 10)
Horse TFR Score/10 Notes
CARLTON 114p 10 Unexposed, tactically suited, well-in
INIT TOGETHER 107 7.5 Reliable, fit from Flat
EZ TIGER 106 7 Capable on old form, 214-day layoff
HOLY LEGEND 102 6 Might need further; modest jumping
KINGSTON BRESIL 101 5 Minor interest on bits of form
JEWEL OF WINDSOR 100 5 Needs a stamina test
NEVER SEEN AGAIN 96 4 Breathing op but not shown much
OPTICALITY 102 3.5 Disappointed after promising Flat run
SHABANO 102 2 Long absence and poor form
Market Watch –
Watch EZ TIGER and INIT TOGETHER for confidence in betting. Both could be involved for places if money comes late. CARLTON trades very short in-running due to strong travelling style (99% of BSP average), so is not one to lay.
—
4. Each-Way Angles
10 runners mean 3 places standard. Not a deep contest beyond the favourite, so the only feasible each-way play would be:
INIT TOGETHER – Very consistent, now fit and possibly underestimated switching back to hurdles.
EZ TIGER – If primed after the break, could challenge for second.
—
5. Private Tissue Estimate
Horse Odds
Carlton 4/6
Init Together 6/1
Ez Tiger 13/2
Holy Legend 12/1
Kingston Bresil 20/1
Jewel of Windsor 25/1
Others 33/1+

6. Summary + Smart Play
Summary:
CARLTON has an ideal setup here: a weak pace, a sharp 2m on good ground, and the form of an improving Flat horse who’s already looked well ahead of his mark over hurdles. INIT TOGETHER brings reliable form and is race-fit, while EZ TIGER poses a threat if fully tuned up.
Smart Play:
“Back CARLTON to Win (any 4/6 or better fair value).
Forecast Bet: Carlton to beat Init Together or Ez Tiger.
No Lay Angle – CARLTON trades short in running and finds plenty off the bridle.
Watch market on INIT TOGETHER – would be a serious place player if backed under 7/1.
This is Carlton’s to lose barring mishaps or bounce factor.”
