1. Race Setup – Conditions & Tactics
Trip: 1m 3f on Good to Soft (Good in places)
Field: 11 runners
Pace Forecast: Even – should allow all types a fair crack
Draw Bias: None expected at this trip
Pace Consideration: A fairly even tempo suits well-positioned mid-division closers or push-button travellers. Jaminoz appears well positioned based on his run style, while Ravenscraig Castle may struggle if they don’t go quick enough early.

2. Contenders, Dangers & Profiles
🟩 Strongest Contenders
STRAYA (TFR 80) – Has shaped better than bare result the last twice, notably over C&D when held up in a steadily run race. Gets ideal conditions and prominent ride expected. Still a maiden but not for long on this evidence.
DESERT OF THE SEA (TFR 79) – Shaped with promise on handicap debut for an in-form trainer. Stronger at the finish last time and bred to stay this trip. Open to plenty of progress.
PAPER DOLL (TFR 78) – Third on debut for Tristan Davidson at Catterick (first run in 10 months) and entitled to strip fitter. Proven at 1½m and a lightly-raced improver for a canny Northern yard.
🟨 Main Dangers
REDONDO (TFR 77) – Placed off a strong pace on seasonal return. Proven over this C&D and acts with cut. However, slow starts and pace reliance are minor negatives today.
KALIKAPOUR (TFR 77) – Returned to form at Redcar, travelling smoothly into contention. Return to 1½m may unlock more but profile overall is patchy.
🟦 Interesting Outsiders
ANA EMARAATY (TFR 74) – Multiple AW wins earlier this year. Fourth here last time, staying on from off the pace. Bit to find but could run into a place.
JAMINOZ (TFR 76) – One of few true course-and-distance winners. Drawn wide but that’s less of an issue here. Pace likely to suit, but form has plateaued.
AYR POET (TFR 78) – Veteran with a previous win here. Jim Goldie has won this race multiple times, and the horse is better than bare result last time.
🔻 Hold-Up Risks / Luck in Running Types
REDONDO, ANA EMARAATY, PAPER DOLL – All need cover and a turn of foot. Given even pace, they’ll need gaps to open late.
RAVENSCRAIG CASTLE – Vulnerable off a slow gallop, form on the flat has long since dipped despite remaining well treated.

3. Runner Ratings /10 (suitability, form, setup)
Horse Score/10 Suitability Notes
Straya 10 Trip and tactics ideal, unlucky last time
Desert of the Sea 8.3 Handicap debut effort was eye-catching
Paper Doll 6.7 Lightly raced, fitter now, trainer switch key
Redondo 5.0 C&D form, but hold-up reliance an issue
Kalikapour 5.0 Recovered form but patchy overall
Naturalia 4.5 Capable but not reliable
Ayr Poet 4.0 Each-way claims, trainer record boosts
Jaminoz 4.0 Type to sneak a place, suited by conditions
Ana Emaraaty 3.5 Can place but needs a career best
Toronto Raptor 3.0 Limited but fair effort last time
Ravenscraig Castle 2.5 Well below par on recent flat form

4. Each-Way Angles (11 runners)
Plenty of options for place betting with 3–4 places likely paid. Viable each-way runners:
STRAYA – Trainer on form, shaped well in defeat.
DESERT OF THE SEA – Improving profile.
PAPER DOLL – Second run for new trainer, encouraging reappearance.
AYR POET – Big field, straight galloping track suits old boy; four-time course winner.

5. Private Tissue Estimate (Top 6)
Horse Odds
Straya 7/2
Desert of the Sea 4/1
Paper Doll 11/2
Redondo 7/1
Kalikapour 8/1
Ayr Poet 10/1
Others 12/1+

6. Summary + Smart Play
Summary:
A low-grade handicap, but several interesting profiles. Straya is overdue, was better than the result last time, and ticks more boxes than most. Desert of the Sea and Paper Doll represent yards with purpose and have upside. Redondo is dependable but less tactically suited here.
Smart Play (Pro Punter View):
“Win Bet: STRAYA if 4/1 or bigger – could go off favourite with support.
Each-Way: DESERT OF THE SEA or PAPER DOLL, depending on market strength.
Tricast/Fc Box: Straya / Desert of the Sea / Paper Doll – best profiles on recent form + suitability.
Market Watch: Look for nibbles on Kalikipour (late momentum in markets can be telling in this yard).
This is a weak 0–65 but a good shape race to play. Look to side with those improving or with excuses last time.”
