·

Pace & Draw:
A very strong pace is expected, which should disadvantage front-runners like Island Bandit and Corundum, while enhancing the claims of more patiently ridden horses such as Wildfell. Wolverhampton’s Tapeta surface is galloping and fair, and with no significant draw bias over this trip, position in the race will be more critical than stall number.

Leading Contenders

Pursuit of Truth (TFR 90)
Unexposed, and ran close off this mark at Kempton in a race that produced decent sectionals. The Yarmouth run was below par but possibly ground related. Suited by this return to Tapeta, and the forecast strong pace may play to his strengths if ridden patiently. Has shown some promise without winning, and Timeform gives him the edge on adjusted ratings.

Island Bandit (TFR 89)
Consistent all-weather profile, fair adjusted rating, and trainer has a notable record when sending just one runner. However, his preference to be on or close to the pace is a tactical negative given the race shape. Needs things to fall perfectly and could be vulnerable late on.

Corundum (TFR 86)
Raced freely when forcefully ridden at Yarmouth last time, now returns to the all-weather where he’s gone well. Gear change (tongue strap and cheekpieces) could help him settle better. Has front-running style and thus may face early pressure, limiting his effectiveness unless allowed a soft lead.

Saxon Land (TFR 79+)
Back from hurdles and was well backed when disappointing on stable debut for a trainer with strong stats at Wolverhampton. Drops in trip which could help, and cheekpieces retained. Still a maiden and unproven on Tapeta, but dangerous if market speaks positively again.

Dangers and Outsiders

Con Te Partiro (TFR 84)
Solid AW performer in 2024 and recent runs suggest she remains in good heart. Likely to be suited by strong pace and stays the trip well. Well-drawn to stalk from midfield and has Hollie Doyle booked—a positive.

Lechuga Lad (TFR 86)
Shaped with promise last time at Yarmouth, staying on into third behind Corundum. Trained by James Fanshawe, who is in form. One of the more progressive types and worth watching for further improvement.

Wildfell (TFR 89)
Interesting at a price. Out of sorts on turf, but Timeform highlights he could benefit from the pace collapse. Stays a mile well, and if getting a clean run, could be flying late. Not a straightforward horse but has the talent.

Saturn Five (TFR 87)
Not straightforward—suffered an irregular heartbeat last time. That raises clear doubts, but was promising at Chester before that and is potentially well handicapped if bouncing back.

Wadacre Grace (TFR 75+)
Shaped as though she’d improve for her return. Has previous form at the track and is with a red-hot trainer. Unlikely to win but could run into the frame if fit.

Hold-Up Risk Horses Needing Luck

Wildfell

Con Te Partiro

Pursuit of Truth

All three would benefit from a clean mid-to-late run and could be compromised by traffic or poorly timed moves.

Timeform Comments & Trends

Pursuit of Truth flagged by Timeform as appealing given his AW return.

Corundum noted for positive Betfair SPs and aggressive tactics.

Island Bandit noted as negatively impacted by pace projection.

No past winners to rely on, but trainers like James Owen (Saxon Land) and Heather Main (Island Bandit) have profitable 1-runner records at AW meetings.
