Going: Good to Firm (Good in places) | Draw Bias: Neutral | Pace Forecast: Even
Race Set-Up & Tactical View
This is a 0-75 handicap over Beverley’s extended 7f trip. The pace is forecast to be even, but runners who can race prominently tend to have an edge at this track. The draw has not shown a significant bias in recent similar races, but wide draws can complicate tactics if a runner requires cover or needs to lead.
Leading Contenders
A WAR EAGLE [Adjusted Rating: 85] – A progressive 3yo who improved on handicap debut when a close second at Hamilton. Profile is on the up and looks well suited to this track and trip. Likely to race handily, and Timeform notes he should trade shorter in running. Promising type from an upwardly mobile yard.
COMMANDER OF LIFE [AR: 79] – Consistently placed in recent starts and ran well in a competitive Chester contest last time. Well-suited to today’s trip and ground. Likely to race close to the pace, which is ideal at Beverley. Stamina proven.
ORBAAN [AR: 79] – The veteran has placed in his last two runs and remains competitive. May need a strong pace to feature from his typical midfield position. Beverley suits prominently placed runners better, and his age limits upside, but he’s genuine and consistent at this level.
BANTZ [AR: 82] – In-form 3yo with two recent good runs. Has to overcome a wider draw which may compromise his usual handy position. Proven at 7f on fast ground. Holds place claims if securing early position. Timeform note he’s not ideally drawn but arrives in form.
Main Dangers & Interesting Outsiders
CAPTAIN CORELLI [AR: 79] – Won four times last year including twice here. Disappointed on reappearance but that may have been needed after eight months off. Strong course form angle and worth market monitoring for signs of fitness.
PARK STREET [AR: 81] – Regressive this season and was well beaten at Redcar last week. Racing freely and not seen to best effect in recent runs. Risky unless dropped in and gets cover, but is now on a competitive mark.
KING SHARJA [AR: 82] – Won earlier this year and had a troubled passage last time. Not totally ruled out, especially if the pace picks up.
LAW DEGREE [AR: 81] – Tim Easterby has won this race twice in the past decade. This gelding is winless this season and needs to bounce back, but yard does target this race. Best watched unless market suggests otherwise.
AL MUQDAD & LIBERTY BIRD – Both arrive out of form, though AL MUQDAD has a 2024 record that would give him a shout if back to best. Market support would be significant.
GEORGECANDOIT – First-time cheekpieces last time didn’t help. Form regressive, hard to recommend.
HARSWELL RUBY – Below best last two, but consistent earlier in season. Could be suited if allowed to dictate.

Summary
This race centres around the progressive 3yo A War Eagle, who boasts the strongest recent form, is unexposed, and looks well-placed tactically. Commander of Life is ultra-consistent and appeals for each-way purposes in this 12-runner field. Captain Corelli is worth watching in the market with Beverley wins to his name, and Bantz has place credentials if overcoming the draw.
