Going: Good to Firm | Draw Bias: Neutral | Pace Forecast: Even
This Class 5 3yo handicap over 7 furlongs sees a field of eight declared. An even gallop is forecast, and while there’s no formal draw bias at Newbury over this trip, those racing handily are often favoured when the pace isn’t strong—particularly on quick ground. This could disadvantage confirmed hold-up horses if luck in running becomes a factor.

Contenders and Profiles
Mr Ubiquitous (TFR 92)
The standout on adjusted ratings. He’s improving rapidly, unpenalised for a comfortable win at Salisbury, and now 7lb well-in with the 7lb claim from Jack Nicholls. Proven on fast turf and versatile tactically, he stays further than 7f and should travel smoothly in an even-run race. Trainer Harry Eustace is in form.
Adelaide Bay (TFR 89+, “Horse in Focus”)
A progressive three-time AW winner, latest success was decisive and franked by the runner-up winning next time. However, all winning form has come on artificial surfaces and he may be held up again here, which poses some risk given the predicted pace profile. Still improving and has Timeform’s attention.
Graduated (TFR 86)
A fair handicapper with solid form on both turf and AW. She was a strong-finishing third at Wolverhampton last time and notably traded short in running, indicating support and performance. Profile suggests she can race prominently, which is a plus in this field. Connections are profitable when sending single runners to meetings.
Iconnic (TFR 83)
Tough filly with a progressive profile. Won narrowly over 6f at Leicester, shaping as if the return to 7f will suit. Handles good ground and showed determination under pressure. Has some tactical speed but may need to settle in mid-pack.
This Farh (TFR 84)
Improved to win last time when gifted a soft lead in cheekpieces. That race set up perfectly and there’s a strong chance she won’t get things as easy again. Still lightly raced but may have already peaked.
Tolerance (TFR 84)
Consistent but found little when fifth behind This Farh last time. A strong run at Leicester previously shows he can be effective, and he has William Buick booked again. A drop back to a sounder surface may help, though he lacks the progressive profile of others.
Mapledurham (TFR 83)
Returned from a long break with a rusty effort over an inadequate trip. Trainer has a habit of bringing them along slowly and she shaped well enough as a 2yo over further. Better expected here, but 2nd-up from a long layoff makes her a market-dependent watch.
Beauty By My Side (TFR 78)
Another returning from a significant break (202 days), having shown only modest form last year and bombed on last nursery appearance. Others are more compelling and this looks like a prep.

Summary
This is a competitive handicap with several progressive types. Mr Ubiquitous stands out both on form and ratings, particularly given the 7lb claim. Graduated is a solid tactical fit with a good trainer angle and ran an upgraded race last time. Adelaide Bay is progressive but may be slightly tactically compromised.

Smart Play
Win Bet – Mr Ubiquitous: Unpenalised, in form, top-rated, and well drawn to track the pace.
Each-Way Saver – Graduated: Tactically suited and well-handicapped with solid profile at a working-man’s price.
Market moves for Mapledurham and Beauty By My Side should be noted if support materialises after long layoffs.
