·

6f 195y, 3yo fillies, £26,654
Going: Good to Soft (Soft in places) | Pace Forecast: Strong | Draw Bias: Neutral

This Listed fillies’ contest over a stiff seven furlongs promises to be truly run, with confirmed front-runners such as Glamis Road and Beaujolais Nouveau likely to ensure a good gallop. Carlisle’s uphill finish and testing ground conditions may expose those not fully proven at the trip or lacking match fitness. No significant draw bias is identified, though prominent racing styles often hold up well here.

Leading Contenders

Saqqara Sands [111p] – Progressive filly from the in-form Ralph Beckett yard. She ran a career-best when second in a Listed contest at Epsom 18 days ago and shaped like she’d come on for the run after seven months off. Proven on testing ground and shaping as though she’s still improving, she rates the most solid option. Rossa Ryan rides; he has a 37% strike rate on favourites.

Verse of Love [107p] – Highly promising sort for Charlie Appleby who bounced back to form with a decisive win at Yarmouth. She had previously flopped at Newmarket but may not have been suited by that course. Already a two-time winner from three starts and unexposed at this level. However, her hold-up style carries an inherent risk, particularly at Carlisle, where gaps can close late.

Anshoda [108] – Former Prestige Stakes winner who ran poorly in the German 1000 Guineas on reappearance but had excuses after being hampered. She was returning from a seven-month absence, so improvement is very possible. Acts on soft ground and stays the trip well, but her hold-up style means she’ll need a clear run. David Loughnane has not previously won this race.

Dangers & Outsiders

The Third Star [97] – Not disgraced when eighth in a Listed race at York last time, but has much to find on form. Her maiden win at Southwell came in a modest contest. She’s exposed and unlikely to be suited by a strongly-run Listed race on a stiff turf track.

Fleetwater [95] – Recent Windsor winner, she’s race-fit and in form, but has been kept to handicaps and looks exposed at this level. Unproven on soft ground and stamina for this uphill finish at 7f is not guaranteed. Trainer J.S. Moore is in cold form.

Beaujolais Nouveau [95] – Another from the handicap ranks, she is usually prominent and could benefit from race fitness, having finished second at Thirsk recently. However, she’s rated 16 lb below the top on adjusted figures and has plenty to find.

Love Talk [99?] – Potentially well treated on her two-year-old form, but has disappointed in three starts this season and now tries a drop back in trip. She has yet to prove she retains her ability and faces an uphill task.

Glamis Road [106] – Front-runner who won a Listed race in France last autumn but has failed to beat a rival in her two runs this season. Faces competition for the lead and is likely vulnerable late.

Summary

The Eternal Stakes presents a strong matchup between the upwardly mobile Saqqara Sands and Verse of Love, both with scope to improve beyond Listed class. The former is match-fit and battle-hardened, while the latter oozes potential but may need luck from off the pace. Anshoda is the value angle if bouncing back.

Smart Play

Win Bet: Saqqara Sands – progressive, strong Listed form, race-fit, suited by the setup.

Each-Way Saver: Anshoda – former Listed winner, good ground versatility, potential improver if market vibes are positive.

Market moves, especially for Verse of Love and Anshoda, will be telling.
