This low-grade 3-y-o handicap (0–62) features 11 runners over a mile at Leicester, a track with a straight mile where pace and position can prove decisive. The pace projection is strong, with multiple forward-going types engaged, notably Shielas Well, Rokuni and potentially Optimatum and Towerlands. This sets things up for late closers, but hold-up horses may require luck in running. There’s no evident draw bias here.
Contenders & Profiles
Shielas Well (Grant Tuer) [71 TFR] – Comes here just 8 days after landing a Ripon contest over 10f, defying a market drift and battling well from the front. She’s been in good form since the spring and is thriving. Proven on good to firm, she drops in trip but should be fine on this sharper test given her tactical speed. Respected despite a 6 lb penalty.
Live Each Day (Stuart Williams) [76 TFR] – Strong contender if forgiving her latest run, when possibly amiss at Windsor. Previously won at Southwell and was a strong second at the same track prior. Handles good ground and has tactical speed. Stuart Williams is a hot trainer, and Sean Levey retains the ride. Suited by strong pace; a closer who could benefit most from the race shape but does require a clean run.
Candle of Time (Julie Camacho) [73 TFR] – Unexposed, ran very well on handicap debut at Carlisle after five months off, denied a clear run late. Trainer does well with progressive types. The pace should suit her running style, and with natural improvement, she’s a serious threat. Could be promising, not yet exposed.
Optimatum (Charlie Johnston) [66 TFR] – Up in trip for the first time, and this could suit. Yard has a positive strike rate when stepping horses up in distance. Poor last time, but it’s his handicap debut and first try beyond 7f. Yard form strong, and while raw form is weak, he could show more here.
Praying For Time [66 TFR] – Below par for Alice Haynes since moving from Gosden. Lightly raced but no clear progress yet. Pedigree suggests he could improve at this trip; market should guide.
Lady of Alaska [63 TFR] – Yet to show significant ability but bred to do better. Last run was a small step forward. Still, her mark looks stiff, and she needs more.
Towerlands [69 TFR] – Returned with little promise at Leicester after a long absence and gelding. Modest form previously. Trainer cold, but worth monitoring for market moves on second run back.
Rokuni [72 TFR] – Rated higher than most but inconsistent and unreliable. Best efforts have come when racing prominently; if he’s taken on for the lead here, he could fold late.
Hush Puppy [65 TFR] – Out of form since third in a Newcastle maiden. Dropping mark, and now down in class, but hard to recommend on current evidence.
Azoozi [68 TFR] – Modest profile. Awkward head carriage and weak finishes a concern. Trainer form not strong; blinkers and other headgear have failed to spark revival.
Princess Qajar [70 TFR] – Poor reappearance after time off; the profile suggests she may need further or more time. Wide outsider.

Summary
This competitive 3-y-o handicap could set up for closers given the forecast strong pace. Shielas Well is battle-hardened and may well defy a penalty. However, Live Each Day and Candle of Time are both unexposed, pace-suited types who represent potential value. Optimatum could be the dark horse, stepping up in trip for an in-form yard.
