Pace Forecast: Weak
Draw Bias: Against High

With a predicted steady gallop and high draws historically disadvantaged, horses drawn low-to-mid and able to race prominently may have an edge. Front-runners and early pressers should be favoured over hold-up types, who might struggle to find racing room, especially from wider stalls.

Contender Profiles

Strongest Contenders:

NOVELLO LAD (Adj Rtg 84): Proven at the course and distance, narrowly denied here 12 days ago and trending upwards. He’s well drawn in stall 3, but is a confirmed hold-up horse which could leave him needing luck in a likely falsely run race. Timeform highlight him as progressing with each run this term. Oisin Murphy is a notable booking with a strong record on favourites.

AGE OF BAROQUE (86): Coming off a win on the AW, where he looked well in command. Races under a 6 lb penalty but has shown signs of progression. Turf form isn’t as strong, and this is a quick turnaround (10 days). Could be vulnerable late if others improve.

CREATE (82): Recent form suggests he’s hit a purple patch, and he’s another who goes forward from a handy draw in stall 2. His C&D second in April was solid and followed by a win at Southwell. Carries bottom weight and looks suited tactically.

Main Dangers:

KRISTAL KLEAR (82): Bounced back with a neck second at Wetherby, having had a breathing operation. Tactically versatile, but drawn wide (11) and often fades late after trading short. Not straightforward.

WAISTCOAT (80): In form with two wins from his last four. Can be slowly away but has been holding his form well. Conditions suit, but a mid-to-low draw would have been ideal—stall 6 is fine if he breaks better than usual.

LUMENBOURG (82): Front-runner type, likely to benefit from the tactical setup. Well treated on old form and holding his level. Drawn 10 might force him to work harder early.

Interesting Outsiders:

CLASSY CLARETS (79): Improved since switching yards, now racing off a competitive mark with consistent recent form. Another who comes from off the pace; may need cover and luck.

DANZART (83): C&D winner in April and probably ran back too quickly next time. Capable if bouncing back, though not especially well drawn.

Others:

RASCAL RECKNELL: Long layoff (249 days), now with Michael Appleby, who does well with new recruits. Market check advised.

HOW’S THE GUVNOR: Cold stable, out of form, and usually slow away. Wide draw a further negative.

ATASER: Long time since showing any form and returning from 238 days off.

EMILY POST: Likes 7f and bounced back latest, but also another late closer and wide draw won’t help.

HIGHFIELD VIKING: Returning from a year off recently; likely needed the run. Risky until showing more.

Summary & Smart Play

This low-grade 7f handicap looks set to be run at a steady pace, favouring those drawn low who race prominently. Novello Lad is in peak form and should go very close, though his hold-up style poses a tactical risk. Create makes plenty of appeal at the weights with an ideal setup and shape for the race.

Smart Play:
Win Bet – Novello Lad (progressive, C&D form, top jockey booking)
Each-Way Saver – Create (well drawn, in form, tactically suited)
