14:10 Cartmel – AW Blake Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle (Class 4) | 2m 1f 46y | Soft (Good to Soft in places)

·

This Class 4 mares-only novice event brings together a mix of promising bumper graduates, lightly raced maiden hurdlers and a couple with more established profiles. The pace forecast is even, and Cartmel’s tight layout places emphasis on agility and track position. There’s no obvious front-running bias on recent evidence, but runners like Bittalemon may look to make use of a forward style. No significant draw bias is at play over hurdles here.

Main Contenders
Jolie Coeur Allen (TFR 122): Formerly with Willie Mullins, and although regressive since switching yards, she still showed traces of ability in a recent Cartmel handicap. She’s yet to fully convince at trips beyond 17f and tends to be ridden quietly, raising luck-in-running concerns at this track. Stat: her jockey has a 38% strike rate on hurdling favourites.

Green Bonnet (TFR 107): An eye-catching second on hurdling debut at Kelso behind a promising sort. Related to several capable jumpers and looks open to improvement, with the Lucinda Russell yard often seeing their novices step forward from debut. Ticks ground and trip boxes.

Getaway Frankie (TFR 107): Posted a career-best at Hexham last time with an improved showing when making all. That form has substance and her half-sibling stayed well. However, she’s unproven at quirky tracks and her poor prior runs raise consistency questions.

Miss JM Reidy (No TFR): Bumper debut third at Kelso hinted at above-average ability, staying on well. From a stoutly-bred family (half-sister to American Mike) and enters here off 35 days. Interesting hurdling debutante if taking to jumping.

Out On Her Own (No TFR): Showed promise in a big-field Aintree bumper, staying on strongly. Could go under the radar for an in-form trainer targeting this course. Unexposed and potentially progressive if jumping fluently.

Interesting Outsider
Bittalemon (TFR 108): Improved markedly last time when front-running and sticking on well. Cheekpieces remain, and she has experience of this track. Could surprise if allowed a soft lead.

Others Noted

First Ever, Nika Pika, Somebodycomegether: All look held on known form; watching brief advised.

Cross of Redmoor: No hurdle form; fell in a point.

Raincloud: Exposed and held on past efforts; breathing issues and bleed noted in profile.

Timeform Trends & Trainer History
Ben Haslam (Jolie Coeur Allen) and Lucinda Russell (Green Bonnet) are the most established handlers here. Haslam also runs First Ever, suggesting this is a targeted race for the yard. No trainers have won this race previously, but Lucinda Russell’s overall novice hurdle strike rate is notable.

Runner Ratings (Suitability: Track/Trip/Going)

Jolie Coeur Allen – 6/10 (Suited ground, trip doubtful, regressive form)

Green Bonnet – 8/10 (Progressive, proven trip/ground, strong yard)

Getaway Frankie – 7/10 (Proven stamina, form bounce needs confirming)

Miss JM Reidy – 7/10 (Promising debut, unknown over hurdles)

Out On Her Own – 7/10 (Track/trip likely to suit, raw)

Bittalemon – 6.5/10 (Track experience, improving, needs lead)

Raincloud – 3/10 (Exposed, issues)

First Ever – 4/10 (Inexperienced, early days)

Nika Pika – 4/10 (Poor recent Flat runs)

Somebodycomegether – 3/10 (Well held in all starts)

Cross of Redmoor – 2/10 (Unknown, faller in points)

Private Tissue Estimate (Win % to Odds Conversion)

Green Bonnet – 11/4

Miss JM Reidy – 4/1

Getaway Frankie – 9/2

Out On Her Own – 5/1

Jolie Coeur Allen – 11/2

Bittalemon – 7/1

Raincloud, Nika Pika, First Ever, Somebodycomegether, Cross of Redmoor – 25/1 or bigger

Summary
A tricky novice hurdle with depth among the unexposed runners. Green Bonnet has the best blend of proven ability, improvement potential and suitability to conditions. Miss JM Reidy is bred for the job and shaped nicely in her bumper. Jolie Coeur Allen has the class edge on past ratings but is hard to trust.

Smart Play
Win bet – Green Bonnet: well-bred, progressive, and likely to improve on debut effort.
Each-Way saver – Miss JM Reidy (if 8+ runners remain): promising on bumper form and strong pedigree suggest upside.

Market watch advised for Miss JM Reidy and Out On Her Own making hurdle debuts, especially if strong late support appears.
