17:35 Tipperary – Donovan Transport Handicap Hurdle (4yo+, €7,200, 2m, Good to yielding)

·

Pace Angle: Strong pace forecast. Prominent racers should be favoured, while hold-up types could face traffic issues late on.
Draw Note (flat/AW): Not applicable under NH rules.

Contenders & Tactical Assessment

THE BANGER DOYLE (125, John Queally) – A consistent, battle-hardened chaser now well-handicapped back over hurdles (109 vs chase mark). Confirmed strong recent form with a head second at Punchestown (2m) off just 5 days’ rest. However, the strong early gallop could blunt his effectiveness – best when dictating or controlling tempo.

DARCY’S FRIEND (121p, Emmet Mullins) – Landed a significant gamble in a 17-runner Leopardstown handicap in March on stable debut. Lightly raced and a likely improver from just 105. Missed 123 days but yard excels with such types. Travelled powerfully when winning and could be ideally suited by the pace shape. Promising profile.

DUNKERQUE (119, Gavin Cromwell) – Made a pleasing return from a break when 3rd in a Downpatrick novice hurdle. This is his handicap debut, and improvement is very plausible. Lightly raced and connections are in form. Progressive type.

GIMME A BUZZ (118, Enda Bolger) – Dual hurdle winner this season. Folded tamely on chase debut just 2 days ago but that may not be his bag. Returns quickly which can be a positive, and 7lb claimer helps. Usually front-runs which could be a concern in this strong pace setup. Proven but maybe poorly placed tactically.

IT’SALLABOUTEVE (123, Brendan Walsh) – C&D winner in early 2024. Comes off a poor return run but made a serious jumping error and may strip fitter. Timeform notes she’s well suited by strong pace scenarios. Hold-up type needing luck in running but tactically suited.

Interesting Outsiders & Trends

RED GLORY (123, de Bromhead) – Has a class edge but hasn’t shown form since his Killarney win nearly a year ago. Could run well fresh, has early pace.

STAR OFFICIAL (121, Donohoe) – Tramore winner earlier this season. Run of solid efforts and one of the few with solid recent hurdle form. Strong pace could help if held up.

TREND:

4 of last 5 winners were aged 6 or 7.

Horses carrying 11-7 or more are favoured.

Winners often come from trainers with form or those landing gambles.

TRAINER ANGLE:

Emmet Mullins is 2 from 4 in similar scenarios in last 12 months.

John Queally places his handicappers well but hasn’t won this race in past 5 years.
