Pace Forecast: Weak | Draw Bias: Not significant (5 runners, straight track)

Race Analysis

Pace & Draw Angles:
With a weak pace expected, runners who race prominently or can take control early may be favoured. The field size of five neutralises any significant draw bias on Haydock’s straight 5f track, but tactical speed will be vital. The pace forecast particularly benefits PROOF, who may get the run of the race if allowed to track or lead early.

Contenders Overview

Top Contenders:

COTAI BELLE (TFR 82) – Progressive. Ran green but still got the job done at Wetherby in a fair maiden; shaped as though 6f may suit better long term, but quickened smartly and has scope off 77. Could lead or sit handy in a weak-pace race. Promising and open to further improvement.

PROOF (TFR 81) – Promising. Half-brother to speedy types; improved when runner-up behind a smart one at Goodwood. Still raw and can progress further. Has a good chance of dictating the race if asked early. Strong each-way angle if prices allow.

Main Dangers:

U TURN (TFR 77) – Proven but exposed. Five runs already; hard-trying and often races prominently. Just failed in a seller at York last time, which casts slight doubts over form depth. May benefit from a return to 5f but lacks scope.

KESTA (TFR 80) – Fair performer. Brighton winner but has shown limitations in stronger company since. Still lightly raced but had every chance last time. Needs to bounce back and improve to be a threat here.

Interesting Outsider:

GUERNSEY LADY (TFR 79) – Proven. Scored at Lingfield before well out of depth in Queen Mary. Returns to calmer waters. Possibly pace vulnerable and not especially progressive, but can be competitive off 78.

Summary & Smart Play

This is a trappy small-field nursery where pace and positioning will prove decisive. COTAI BELLE is the most progressive in the field, has form in better maidens, and is likely to be well ridden by Oisin Orr. PROOF appeals as the value play, especially with the expected steady gallop playing to his tactical speed and likely improvement. U TURN is more exposed and comes from a seller, so is passed over despite consistency.

Smart Play:

Win Bet: COTAI BELLE – upwardly mobile filly who can dominate this field tactically and on form.

Each-Way Saver (if 3 places or better available): PROOF – improving and likely to be well positioned in a steadily run race.
