Race Preview:

Contenders & Suitability Assessments:

TASSAROLO – (66+, Score: 7/10)
Proven jumper with some fair maiden Flat form. Winner over hurdles latest and likely to benefit from a step back up to 1½m. Has an awkward running style (slow starter) but a weak pace won’t play to his strengths. Lightly raced on Flat, and could be ahead of this mark. Trainer in fair form. Needs luck in running. Progressive over jumps – unexposed profile here.

MAXWELL SMART – (69, Score: 8/10)
Back-to-back runner-up finishes at 13f and 14.5f and has the strongest recent form in context. Trainer ice cold, but booking of 10lb claimer offsets that. The likely steady pace may suit him if he can get handy early. Looks solid at this level. Proven and fit, though not much in hand off this mark.

CELTIC DRUID – (62+, Score: 7/10)
Ran well when 3rd at Leopardstown last time and has been gradually building back form. 1m4f a question mark but shaping like worth a try. Draw fine, and rider value for 3lb. Has stamina in pedigree and should get the trip. Promising type for this level, if stamina lasts.

KARTAYAZ – (67+, Score: 6.5/10)
Had been in fair form before modest effort latest. Normally ridden prominently which may help in this setup. Old boy but trainer gets wins with similar types and this is his trip. Proven, though needs career-best now aged 8.

PICPOUL – (66+, Score: 6.5/10)
A well-known front-runner who tends to trade short but not deliver. Should be suited by steady pace and may get an easy lead. Unreliable late, however. Has tactical angle, but trust is the issue.

DULEEK STREET – (?, Score: 6/10)
Has form at the trip but is just second run back after long layoff. Shaped okay on return but was well held. Better expected now fitter. John McConnell a canny placer. Interesting outsider if market speaks.

LOHENGRIN – (64, Score: 6/10)
Solid effort in Limerick claimer last time. Stays well, handles varying ground, but 5yo maiden now and often outpaced before staying on. Cheekpieces retained. Needs a test, not guaranteed here.

TARA POWER – (65, Score: 5/10)
Won on the AW in Feb, but flat since. Capable at this level, though returns from a break and trainer only occasional scorer. Patchy profile but has placed form at the trip.

DELUCA CHOP – (?, Score: 5.5/10)
Returning from over 600 days off but was in good form when last seen. Market will guide. Trainer off the radar and fitness must be taken on trust. Market watch advised.

THE MIGHTY PENNY – (?, Score: 4/10)
Bred to be better than this, but shown very little. Trainer has a better one in Duleek Street. Temperament a question.

THE MAN ABOVE – (61, Score: 3.5/10)
Consistently modest and appears to have regressed. No tactical edge and needs a revival. Hard to recommend.

AUDSCAR – (?, Score: 2/10)
Zero positives – beaten far last two runs and no sign of turning corner.

IDOMYTHING – (60, Score: 3.5/10)
Three-year-old with okay pedigree, but nothing in form to latch onto yet. Could improve, but must show it first. Market check advised.

WAYSIDE LADY – (66, Score: 3.5/10)
Absent since January and often well held. Back over further, but little to encourage. Temperament and layoff concerns.

GODDAUGHTER – (56, Score: 2/10)
Very limited on evidence so far. No current appeal.

Each-Way Angles (15 runners):

Interesting Outsiders:

DULEEK STREET (fitness concern but form ties in, market move would be significant).

PICPOUL (tactical angle, likely to lead in a race lacking pace – risky but not ruled out).

Private Tissue Estimate:

Horse Odds

Maxwell Smart 3/1
Tassarolo 4/1
Celtic Druid 6/1
Kartayaz 8/1
Picpoul 8/1
Lohengrin 10/1
Duleek Street 12/1
Tara Power 16/1
Deluca Chop 16/1
The Mighty Penny 25/1
Celtic Druid 6/1
Others 33/1+

Summary:

A weak 0–60 handicap likely to be steadily run. MAXWELL SMART has the best recent form and profile in a race of unreliable sorts. TASSAROLO is interesting now back on the level following a hurdles win, though pace setup not ideal. CELTIC DRUID is open to further progress and may stay, while KARTAYAZ and PICPOUL offer minor appeal if conditions play in their favour. Fitness of DULEEK STREET could make him a market-based late player.

Smart Play (Top 2 Bets):

Win bet – Maxwell Smart (Proven, in-form, well treated with claim, stays well)
Each-way saver – Celtic Druid (Progressive in handicaps, likely to be suited by trip, still improving)

Keep an eye on the market for Duleek Street and Deluca Chop – both returning from layoffs.
