PACE & DRAW ANGLES:
Weak pace predicted, which plays into the hands of prominent racers.
No draw bias is present at this trip on this round course.
HIGHFIELD VIKING looks tactically best suited, while MWAFAQ may suffer if the pace is steady and he’s held up.
—
STRONGEST CONTENDERS:
JKR COBBLER (76): Proven C&D winner and returned from a long absence with a strong second at Ayr. Likely to come forward again and has form in all conditions. Tactically adaptable and in form.
HIGHFIELD VIKING (77): Better than result at Thirsk and third at the track prior to that. Backed up quickly and handles cut; tactically well-suited here.
KEEP WARM (76): Reliable type from a yard in form. Handles soft and races prominently. Fourth last time to the reopposing Inanna and likely to be in the frame again.
LAW DEGREE (76): Unlucky last time when short of room at Beverley. Down in trip slightly which could help in testing conditions. Can go close if more prominently ridden.
—
INTERESTING OUTSIDERS:
MAYBERRY MOON (75): Finished well at Ayr over this trip. Still lightly raced and her Carlisle maiden win gives her credentials. Risky at the start (slow away), but capable with luck in running.
MARSH MEADOW (74): Only modest but shaped better at Newcastle last time. Still unexposed and the drop back from 1m may suit on a soft surface.
MWAFAQ (76): Lightly raced, some promise earlier in the season. Type to improve, but free-going nature and need for cover could be a negative here.

SUMMARY:
In a slowly run race, tactical speed and prominent positioning will be key. JKR Cobbler rates the most solid contender with proven C&D form and a strong return run. Highfield Viking also arrives in form and gets the perfect setup. Keep Warm is likely to run his race once again, while Law Degree can be dangerous if ridden closer to the pace.
