Pace & Draw Angles: Forecasted to be a very weakly run race. This lack of pace could compromise deeper closers and advantage those tactically adaptable or capable of asserting mid-race. VENETIAN SUN holds a clear pace/positional advantage and shouldn’t be inconvenienced regardless of the gallop. No significant draw bias at this trip on the July course.

Strongest Contender:
VENETIAN SUN – Emerged as a potentially top-class filly when landing the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot, quickening smartly and winning with authority. She’s unbeaten, already proven at 6f, and is the highest-rated in the field. Tactically versatile and the weak pace scenario is no concern. Yard won this in 2020 with Dandalla (TFR 113p).
Main Dangers:
ARGENTINE TANGO – Tough and improving. Won a listed race here last time, where she beat a solid yardstick. Handles the course and trip, but lacks the scope and pace of the favourite. Still, she’s straightforward and race fit (TFR 106).
SHINE ON ME – Massive run at 100/1 in the Queen Mary (6th of 23) finishing strongly, suggesting she’ll relish the extra furlong. Should stay 6f well and is open to improvement (TFR 104p).
SPICY MARG – Won nicely on debut here and showed pace in Queen Mary before fading late. That race was hotter than it looks and she’s bred to improve over 6f (TFR 104p).
Interesting Outsiders:
MOOD QUEEN – Quickened nicely to win on second start. Still raw but nicely bred and open to improvement. Likely needs a strong pace to be seen at her best (TFR 88p).
ROYAL FIXATION – Won a modest Thirsk maiden but showed promise. This is a huge step up, though, and she might lack the gears needed at this level just yet (TFR 84p).

Suitability Ratings (Track/Trip/Going/Class/Temperament etc.) out of 10:
VENETIAN SUN – 9.5/10 – Proven, classy, and versatile. No obvious weaknesses.
ARGENTINE TANGO – 8/10 – Game, progressive, and tough. Lacks the sparkle of top level.
SHINE ON ME – 7.5/10 – Improver stepping up in trip, good run at Royal Ascot.
SPICY MARG – 7.5/10 – Exciting debut, excuses last time. Trip should help.
MOOD QUEEN – 6.5/10 – Work in progress. Could surprise if race gets tactical.
ROYAL FIXATION – 6/10 – Faces much stronger rivals, probably one for the future.

Summary:
This small field Group 2 lacks early pace but that won’t trouble the standout filly VENETIAN SUN, who looked an elite prospect at Royal Ascot. She has class, a tactical edge, and a proven turn of foot. ARGENTINE TANGO is game and represents solid Listed form, but likely lacks the upside of the favourite. SHINE ON ME and SPICY MARG both shaped well in the Queen Mary and are place contenders if they progress as expected.

Smart Play:
Win Bet: VENETIAN SUN – Hard to oppose. Proven, progressive and the likely tactical beneficiary.
Each-Way Saver (6 runners – NO e/w play advised) – Not enough runners for e/w, but SPICY MARG could sneak into the frame if improving for 6f.
Best watched for future potential are MOOD QUEEN and ROYAL FIXATION, especially in easier setups or with more pace.
14:25 Newmarket (July) – Duchess of Cambridge Stakes (Group 2), 6f, 2yo fillies, Good to Firm, 6 runners
