Pace & Draw Angles:
Forecast pace is very weak, and that is significant on the July Course where a slow-run race may favour those racing handily or who can quicken sharply. There is a low draw bias, which enhances the case for Orion’s Belt (drawn 1) and New Vega (drawn 8), although both must overcome greenness or inexperience.

Strongest Contenders:
SNOW LIGHT – From a yard (Charlie Appleby) that has won this race five times since 2020, including last year’s winner Desert Flower. William Buick is booked, which suggests she’s the stable first string. Strong pedigree and bred to improve with time and trip.
ORION’S BELT (84p) – Green but promising debut fourth at Salisbury when sent off 5/6 favourite. Ran on late and shaped like a filly who will improve significantly for the experience and extra furlong. Drawn perfectly in stall 1, every chance to lead or get position.
DANCING FLOWER – Well-bred and from the same Appleby yard as Snow Light. Out of a family that includes Dance Sequence and Tearless. James Doyle rides, suggesting she’s the second string on jockey bookings, but clearly respected.
DARKWING – Gosden newcomer out of a Duke of Cambridge winner, makes appeal on pedigree and stable is in excellent form. May need the run but respected.
Main Dangers:
FAN ME – From a powerful Haggas yard and very well related to Group-class milers. Interesting type if strong in the market.
NEW VEGA – €450,000 breeze-up buy from a smart Aga Khan family. Likely a longer-term prospect, but no surprise if she runs into a place.
JUST CALL ME ANGEL (60p) – Outpaced but kept on steadily on debut at Doncaster. Will improve but needs a big step forward to challenge for win honours.
Interesting Outsiders:
ROMANTIC TWILIGHT (61) – Found trouble on debut and wasn’t knocked about. May outrun odds if race falls apart from the front.
ICE SOVEREIGNS – Johnston yard debutante with solid family background. May need more time but stamina is assured.

Summary:
This looks like a well-contested fillies’ maiden featuring promising types from elite yards. Appleby’s Snow Light is the likely type to follow up from the same yard that produced last year’s 1000 Guineas winner from this race. Orion’s Belt has the benefit of experience and a strong draw. Dancing Flower adds further strength to Appleby’s hand, while Darkwing and Fan Me are likely improvers in time.

Smart Play:
Win Bet: Snow Light – Trainer’s record in the race is outstanding, Buick booked, and she looks a likely pattern performer.
Each-Way Saver: Orion’s Belt – Will improve from debut, perfectly drawn, and already shown racecourse ability.
Stick with the proven stables at this time of year, especially when debutants are from such pedigreed lines.
13:40 Newmarket (July), Saturday 12 July 2025 – Rossdales British EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes (7f, Good to Firm, Class 3, £12,885)
