19:00 KILBEGGAN – NEW FOREST ESTATE & GOLF CLUB HANDICAP HURDLE (0-100) – 3m 180y – 4yo+ – €6,000 – 19 declared – Good ground

·

Pace & Tactics Insight:
The predicted weak pace at Kilbeggan over this extended 3m trip traditionally places a premium on horses able to race handily or quicken effectively. Hold-up runners often require fortune in such tactical events. MISTER VIC could benefit from the pace collapse if not shuffled too far back, whereas HANGRY might struggle in a tactical affair given his usual style.

Leading Contenders

COUNTY CHAMPS (8/10) – Comes here on the back of two strong staying efforts in good-ground handicaps, latest when second in a big field at Punchestown. Still unexposed at this trip and clearly thriving in a visor. Looks poised for another big run in similar conditions.

BIGIRA (7/10) – Proven over course and distance and freshened up when second here behind The Little Yank. Well suited to this test and likely to be on the premises again if building on that effort.

BAL KAUTO (7/10) – Shaped encouragingly on penultimate start and has bits of form over further. Trainer has a fair record with staying handicappers. Claims if things go to plan tactically.

SOUTHGATE AVENUE (6/10) – Stays well, in-form and on the upgrade without a win. 3rd behind Bigira in same C&D race last time. Bit more needed but respected in current form.

ARDFERT MARY (6/10) – Dual-purpose mare who returned to form when taking a handicap chase last time. Back over hurdles here, but clearly stays well and acts under these conditions.

Others to Note / Outsiders

COMEONARCHIE (6/10) – Solid enough profile and some fair placed form last term. Might need this run off a 152-day absence.

MISTER VIC (5/10) – Needs to build on sporadic efforts but pace setup might actually suit. Not the worst each-way shout at a price.

SEVENTY EIGHT TEAM (4/10) – Has shaped like a stayer on recent starts and could outrun big odds with some improvement.

HANGRY (3/10) – Tactically unsuited here and needs significant improvement to take a hand. Others preferred.

CATHYS QUEST (2/10) – 631 days off and unclear what ability remains. Previously won over C&D but big layoff tempers enthusiasm.

Private Tissue Estimate:

County Champs 4/1

Bigira 6/1

Bal Kauto 7/1

Southgate Avenue 15/2

Ardfert Mary 8/1

Comeonarchie 9/1

Mister Vic 12/1

Others 16/1+

Summary

This looks a wide-open staying handicap, but County Champs brings the strongest current form with his latest Punchestown second in a bigger field and can finally get his head in front. Course specialist Bigira is a big danger, especially off his solid C&D placing last time, while Bal Kauto lurks on a workable mark and may benefit from a stiffer test.

Smart Play

Win Bet: COUNTY CHAMPS – improving, proven at the trip, well-handicapped on recent form.

Each Way Saver: BIGIRA – proven at Kilbeggan and arrives in form, rates a solid alternative.

Monitor market support on long-absentees like Cathys Quest and Comeonarchie for clues on readiness. Proven stayers and track specialists hold the edge here.
