Pace & Draw Outlook: The expected weak pace on this turning Tapeta circuit can make it tough for hold-up types at this trip. BURJ ZABEEL and THE POUNCING LION both rate well for a prominent pitch, while GOLDEN HANDSHAKE is less suited tactically despite his form credentials. There’s no meaningful draw bias at this trip on the AW here.

Main Contenders:
THE POUNCING LION [102p] – Progressive and unbeaten since being gelded, winning impressively at Chelmsford (1m2f) when quickening from midfield. Bred to improve further with time and trips like this. Trainer in form and 21% strike rate at this track for Hector Crouch is notable. Unexposed and may sit handy in a tactical affair. One to beat.
BURJ ZABEEL [103p] – Displayed a likeable attitude when making all at Haydock (1m4f), and has shown his versatility already. Tapeta debut but well-bred and tactically ideal for this setup. Johnston yard flying, Billy Loughnane a good booking. Open to more with only 3 runs.
GOLDEN HANDSHAKE [100p] – Lightly raced colt who ran green early in the season but has quickly progressed to win eased down at Lingfield. That was a tactical 4-runner affair, and although talented, he’ll need to settle better here. Less favoured tactically today if ridden patiently again.
—
Others to Note:
HINCHINBROOKE [102] – Three solid maiden runs and bred to improve further over this longer trip. Still a maiden and looks more of a longer-term project, but represents a stable that can spring surprises on AW.
RENATO [98] – Has hinted at ability but has yet to fully deliver. Probably wants further, and tactics (wide trips, patiently ridden) haven’t helped. Hollie Doyle a plus, but hard to be confident on balance.
TUSCAN STAR [101] – AW form early in year included three wins, but has since plateaued and was soundly beaten at York latest. Now back on AW, could revive, but this looks tougher again and more exposed.

Summary:
A strong little race with THE POUNCING LION looking a smart prospect from a yard that excels with improving 3yo handicappers. His Chelmsford win came in good style and he’s tactically well drawn here. BURJ ZABEEL is another progressive and tactically ideal for this contest. GOLDEN HANDSHAKE has a touch of class but may need a stronger tempo to suit.

Smart Play:
Win Bet: THE POUNCING LION – Progressive, tactically suited, and likely to sit close to what could be a slow gallop.
Saver: BURJ ZABEEL – Front-runner with proven stamina, will be hard to pass if left alone in front.
