15:50 Bath – Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance Handicap (Qualifier) (Class 6) – 1m 6f – Firm Ground

·

Pace Angles:
A very weak pace is forecast, and with just four runners, tactical positioning will be critical. While Bath’s long straight can favour closers over this trip, the small field and crawl-like tempo might hand the advantage to those sitting handy. CAPTAIN BRETT is normally a hold-up performer but could be forced closer; IWANTMYTIMEWITHYOU travelled powerfully last time and should get first run on those further back.

Draw Angles:
With only four runners and the race over a staying trip, there is no significant draw bias.

Strongest Contender:

IWANTMYTIMEWITHYOU – Progressive. Took a marked step forward when bolting up by six lengths at Ripon over 12f, shaping as though the extra distance will bring further improvement. Carries a penalty but retains a low mark (64), and Timeform’s “p” rating reflects upside. Tactically adaptable, and has a powerful closing kick, which can be decisive if the race turns into a dash.

Main Danger:

CAPTAIN BRETT (IRE) – Promising. Has improved with each run in handicaps, winning with plenty in hand at Yarmouth despite showing greenness. Lazy racing style may be ill-suited to a tactical event unless driven early, but his stamina and ability to pick up late are not in doubt. Needs a pace injection to be seen to best effect.

Interesting Outsiders:

CHERRY COLA – Proven. Nine-year-old who knows how to win at Bath, including over this trip. Finished second last time and remains competitively handicapped. Needs the front two to underperform tactically, but is consistent and suited by firm ground.

SNEAKY BLINDER (FR) – Modest. Creditable third at Chepstow over two miles last time, but generally vulnerable at the finish against stronger stayers. Stronger headgear worn today; may improve marginally but up against progressive types.

Runner Scores and Suitability Analysis:

IWANTMYTIMEWITHYOU: 8.5/10 – Strong win latest, ideal trip, can settle and quicken.

CAPTAIN BRETT: 7.5/10 – Upward curve, well suited to trip, but laziness and lack of pace a concern.

CHERRY COLA: 6/10 – Reliable, track-specialist, not progressing.

SNEAKY BLINDER: 5/10 – Tries hard, but flat profile compared to others.

Keep an eye on the market for support or big drifts for runners returning from layoffs of 90+ days.
Watch out for in-form stayers returning quickly; they can be hot.

Each-Way Angles:

None – fewer than 8 runners.

Private Tissue Estimate:

IWANTMYTIMEWITHYOU – 10/11

CAPTAIN BRETT – 3/1

CHERRY COLA – 13/2

SNEAKY BLINDER – 9/1

Market watch advised for runners making their 2nd start.

Summary:

In a race that lacks pace, IWANTMYTIMEWITHYOU is well placed to exploit the tactical scenario. He showed his best yet last time and has scope to rate much higher. CAPTAIN BRETT is a danger on profile but could be undone by his tendency to race lazily if the gallop is steady. CHERRY COLA is solid but exposed, and SNEAKY BLINDER lacks the same upside.

Smart Play:
Win: IWANTMYTIMEWITHYOU
No each-way play advised due to field size
