·

Pace & Draw Angles

This is a 7f fillies’ handicap with a predicted weak early gallop, which could significantly favour those racing prominently or just off the pace. There’s a known bias against high draws over this trip at Haydock, with low-to-middle ideally positioned. Hold-up runners are disadvantaged in this context, so tactical positioning will be critical.

Strongest Contenders + Dangers + Outsiders

INSUSPENSE (74p, Paul & Oliver Cole) – Promising Marked out by Timeform as a Horse in Focus, she shaped very well on handicap debut at Doncaster, travelling strongly and finishing best of those away from the main group. The form has a solid look, and her progressive profile, better draw (stall 3), and likelihood of appreciating a more prominent ride all rate her a major player.

PEARLY SQUIRREL (77, Ivan Furtado) – Progressive Has found consistency and handled the rise in class well when winning at Doncaster last time in first-time cheekpieces. Proven at the trip, but now faces a revised mark and meets Insuspense on 6lb worse terms. Drawn in stall 7 which is borderline for the track, but has tactical speed.

WHITE UMBRELLA (73, C. Kellett) – Proven In red-hot form, winning two on the all-weather, including with a strong late run last time. Handles various ground, but all turf form is at sprint trips, and draw in 6 is okay. Step up in class and possible tactical mismatch are small concerns.

SHARON CURLY (76, R. Fahey) – Progressive Comes here in good form after a win and narrow defeat to Pearly Squirrel. Handles a range of ground and has early pace. Stall 4 is ideal, and with Oisin Orr booked, she looks well placed tactically again.

IRONIST (75, G. Margarson) – Progressive Strong-finishing second last time at Yarmouth after a string of promising runs. She’s drawn 9, which is wider than ideal here, and could be a hold-up risk if they crawl early, as forecast. That said, she’s improving and cannot be discounted.

INSUSPENSE vs PEARLY SQUIRREL The Doncaster run on 4 July strongly favours the former at today’s weights and draw. Insuspense was a significant eyecatcher.

Runner Scores and Suitability Analysis

SHARON CURLY: 7.5/10 – In-form, ideally drawn, well suited.

IRONIST: 7/10 – Improving but hold-up style and wide draw are negatives.

INSUSPENSE – Obvious each-way appeal at current odds (~13/2), especially given her sectional upgrade.

Pearly Squirrel – 9/2

Sharon Curly – 6/1

Ironist – 13/2

Summary + Professional Punter View (Smart Play)

A tricky fillies’ handicap with multiple in-form contenders, but the race shape and tactical angles point strongly to those drawn low and with mid-to-prominent run styles. Insuspense looks the one to be on: she’s unexposed, shaped best at Doncaster under suboptimal conditions, and her pedigree suggests there’s more to come. Sharon Curly is very solid and could again hit the frame.

Smart Play

Win: INSUSPENSE – sectional upgrade and drawn to advantage.

Each-Way Saver: SHARON CURLY – consistent, pace-compatible, well-drawn.
