Race Conditions + Pace Angles + Draw Angles
Class 6 handicap over the round 1m3½f at Carlisle. The track’s notoriously stiff uphill finish and lack of early cover put emphasis on stamina and positioning. Field includes habitual front-runners and pressers: Kalikapour, Educate, and Sidney Stratton could all be prominent.
Pace angle: Looks solidly run with at least three likely to force the issue early.
Draw angle: At this distance, low to mid draws (1–4) are historically advantageous, especially if the pace is even.
Strongest Contenders + Main Dangers + Interesting Outsiders
Strongest Contenders:
- Educate (Proven): Made all over C&D in June and returned to form with a solid Newbury effort in a stronger Class 5. RPR 88 suggests he’s well treated back at Class 6 level and loves firm ground. Drawn 2 is ideal for prominent tactics. Stays strongly, and consistent at this level.
- Sidney Stratton (Promising): Lightly raced 3yo; improved markedly when upped in trip and handicapping (2nd over C&D last time). RPR 63 with scope to improve again. Trainer doesn’t fire many bullets but this gelding should progress further. Nicely drawn.
- Kalikapour (Proven): Honest sort; 2nd to a next-time winner at Doncaster last time (RPR 62), shaping as if worth another go at this trip. Well-handicapped on old form, and thrives with pace to aim at. Stiff finish should suit; often flatters but now weighted to strike.
Main Dangers:
- Rosso Levanto (Progressive): 3yo filly with a solid effort at Beverley last time (RPR 65), unlucky not to finish closer. Pedigree supports this trip. Unexposed, and may relish the uphill battle at Carlisle if produced late. Could be the dark horse.
- Ravenswell (Capable): Stays well and shaped encouragingly two starts back. Poor effort latest but will be dropped in, and cheekpieces continue to help. RPRs in the high 60s earlier this year show he’s competitive at this level.
Interesting Outsiders:
- Taylormade Lad (Unproven): Yet to run over this trip effectively but staying pedigree. Wasn’t disgraced latest and yard has a good record with 3yo stayers. Handicapper giving him a chance off 60. Monitor for market move.
- Hot Team (Regressive): 9yo veteran who once rated 90+. Slight signs of life two back but hard to catch right. Peak effort would suffice but long time between drinks. Draw no help.
Runner Scores and Suitability Analysis
- Educate: 8/10 – Back in calmer waters, C&D winner, form solid. Big chance from stall 2.
- Sidney Stratton: 7.5/10 – Unexposed 3yo, improving, should stay; drawn to track pace.
- Kalikapour: 7/10 – Often runs well without winning; chance if delivered late.
- Rosso Levanto: 7/10 – Promising filly, shaping like a winner in waiting. Needs to settle.
- Ravenswell: 6.5/10 – Better than recent form shows. Eyecatcher on penultimate start.
- Taylormade Lad: 6/10 – Yet to prove stamina but lightly raced.
- Hot Team: 5/10 – On the downgrade. Unreliable but no shock if he sneaks into frame.
Keep an eye on the market for support or big drifts for runners returning from layoffs of 90+ days.
Watch out for 3yo stayers improving with experience – they can spike suddenly in Class 6s.
Each-Way Angles (8 runners)
- Rosso Levanto – Bumped late last time, strong finisher, looks set for a bold run.
- Kalikapour – Drawn well, stays, and shaping like a winner waiting to happen.
