4.02 Curragh – Alpha Centauri Debutante Stakes (Group 2, Fillies, 7f, Good)

·

€120,000 | 2yo fillies | Penalties: 3lb G2 winners, 5lb G1 winners

PACE & DRAW

Likely honest-to-strong pace:

  • Balantina (made all when winning here in May) and Evolutionist (pressed leader at Newmarket) are natural front-runners.
  • Composing has shown tactical speed, while Suzie Songs and Skydance prefer to be held up.

Draw: No big bias at 7f Curragh, but inside-to-middle stalls (1–4) are often a shade more efficient in steadily run races.

LEADING CONTENDERS

Balantina – Proven

  • Rock-solid Group 3 form: Albany 3rd (RPR 105), then just touched off in French G3 (RPR 108).
  • C&D winner, still improving, and brings strongest juvenile fillies’ formline on show.
  • Style: Can race handily, which helps here.
    Score: 9/10

Composing – Progressive

  • Unbeaten since debut, Curragh maiden winner (7f), then impressed in G3 Silver Flash at Leopardstown (RPR 112).
  • Pedigree suggests she’ll be even better at a mile.
  • Stable won this in 2023 with Porta Fortuna.
    Score: 9/10

Suzie Songs – Promising

  • Classy filly in the making. Neck win on debut, then ran a screamer in G3 Grangecon (RPR 108), just denied.
  • Strong damline for stamina, trainer/jockey combo excel with this type.
  • Will relish the extra furlong, but still raw.
    Score: 8/10

Skydance – Improving

  • €1m purchase, by Night Of Thunder, stamina on dam’s side.
  • Solid placed runs in G2 & G3, both RPR 103.
  • Keeps hitting the frame, but may lack the turn of foot of Balantina/Composing.
    Score: 7/10

Brownstown – Untapped potential

  • Debut Curragh 7f maiden winner, then pulled hard in G3 at Leopardstown when fading late (RPR 101).
  • Trainer not firing (14-day rtf 40%), but she has scope.
  • Could bounce back with a more settled ride.
    Score: 6/10

Evolutionist – Dark horse

  • €600k Night Of Thunder filly. Won her 2nd start at Newmarket (RPR 90).
  • Still raw, green under pressure, but big engine.
  • This is a huge class rise, but she’s not here for a day out.
    Score: 6/10

EACH-WAY ANGLES

With 6 runners, no EW plays, but market drift/watch is vital:

  • Brownstown if settling better.
  • Evolutionist as the unknown improver.

PRIVATE TISSUE ODDS

  • Composing 9/4
  • Balantina 3/1
  • Suzie Songs 7/2
  • Skydance 6/1
  • Evolutionist 8/1
  • Brownstown 10/1

SUMMARY

This looks a match between Composing and Balantina, the pair holding the strongest form. Suzie Songs is a big player stepping up to 7f, while Skydance is admirably consistent but might be a “placer” again. Brownstown and Evolutionist bring interest but need to prove themselves at this level.

Smart Play:

  • Win Bet: Composing – unbeaten, strong Leopardstown win, best profile for Group 1 progression.
  • Saver: Balantina – genuine, solid Group 3 yardstick with course form.
