4.10 York – Sky Bet Constantine Handicap (Heritage Handicap, Class 2, 6f, £120,000, Good to Firm)

·

Race Shape & Pace Angles:
Big-field York sprint, likely a strong gallop with Run Boy Run, Super Saiyan and a couple of habitual pace pressers forcing it. That sets things up for closers/mid-division types. Draw tends to play a part: high often favoured on quick ground here, but pace clusters on both sides this year.

Draw View:

  • Low: Badri (1) could get trapped without cover, not ideal.
  • Middle: Two Tribes (2), Jordan Electrics (5), Jubilee Walk (4) have pace near them.
  • High: Strike Red (20), Milford (18), Completely Random (17) all well berthed if pace holds up.

Strongest Contenders

Two Tribes – Proven / Progressive (Score: 9/10)
Bang in form, Glorious Goodwood winner under penalty, York form solid earlier in the year. Spencer’s yard not prolific here but Ryan Moore booked. Handles 6f strongly and looks to be peaking at the right time. Well drawn low with Run Boy Run for pace nearby. Major player.

Strike Red – Proven Handicapper (8/10)
Course specialist, soft ground best but retains all ability. Excellent 2nd to Two Tribes at Goodwood, York winner in the past. High draw could be a plus if they split. Needs things to fall right but has a big run in him.

Completely Random – Progressive (8/10)
Lightly raced sprinter from Charlton’s, upward curve. Fourth at Ascot, then a close third at Goodwood. Hasn’t peaked yet, unexposed against exposed sorts. Drawn 17 in a good slot to track the pace.

Chief Mankato – Interesting Outsider (7/10)
In form, recent Windsor win (RPR 108). Lightly raced for his age, hitting best figures now. Drawn low but versatile. Not as classy as top two but progressive.

Main Dangers

Jordan Electrics – 9yo Revelation Season (7/10)
Veteran sprinter thriving, multiple wins at Hamilton but has transferred that form to York too. Last two runs below peak but could bounce back if pace collapses.

Tropical Storm – 3yo Listed winner (7/10)
Smart at 5f, stamina at 6f still a question. York Listed win at 5f reads well but Ascot flop last time. Oisin Murphy up suggests intent.

Run Boy Run – Consistent (7/10)
Often thereabouts in these big handicaps. Not quite the finishing kick to win a race like this but place chance if getting cover.

Others to Note

  • Twilight Calls (6/10): Classy back form but three years without a win, hard to trust in a race of this nature.
  • We Never Stop (6/10): AW star, less effective back on turf this term.
  • Milford (6/10): Solid 3yo handicapper, but looks just short of what’s required.
  • Saint Lawrence (6/10): Wokingham winner in 2023, not at that level this year.
  • Super Saiyan (5/10): Promising but straight from a Doncaster novice into this is a massive leap.
  • Nimitz (4/10): Swedish raider, more a 7f type, hard to fancy.

Summary

A typically deep York 6f handicap. Pace looks honest, suiting those who can settle and finish strongly. Two Tribes is progressive and already proven at this level – he rates the one to beat. Completely Random is unexposed and very likely to run a big one from a nice draw. Strike Red has course form and looks dangerous if in the mood. At prices, Chief Mankato appeals as a lively outsider with scope to keep improving.

Smart Play:

  • Win bet – Two Tribes (proven class, in-form, right setup).
  • Each-way saver – Completely Random (progressive, drawn right).
