4.20 Newmarket (July) – JenningsBet 200 Shops Nationwide Handicap (C4, 5f, Good to Firm)

·

Race shape & draw:
Plenty of pace on here – Marajito, Catch Cunningham, and possibly Rebel Path/ Sensorium all like to be handy. The July course 5f can suit those who travel strongly and challenge late, especially if pace burns up. Draw looks fairly neutral, though low/middle has had a slight edge recently.

Strongest Contenders

Tiva (O’Meara/Davies) – Proven/Progressive

  • In cracking order this summer, 8 runs already and still holding form.
  • Easy winner at Ripon latest, travelling strongly.
  • Consistent on fast ground, proven at 5f, and plenty of placed efforts at C4 level.
  • Solid mark (79) but races like one still with another win in her.

Catch Cunningham (Herrington/Hogan) – Proven

  • Twice a strong finisher over C&D recently, both times behind Rocking Ends/Emperor Spirit.
  • Track suits his style when pace is strong; just needs gaps.
  • On a workable 70 mark, handles fast ground.
  • Reliability questionable, but looks well set for another good effort.

HK Fourteen (Carroll/Watson) – Progressive

  • Sprinter really finding his stride this summer, winning at Newbury last time.
  • Big, scopey horse thriving since dropped to 5f.
  • Up 3lb but lightly raced at trip and more to come.

Main Dangers

Rebel Path (Williams/Haines 7lb) – Place Angle

  • Turf record mixed, but won nicely at Newmarket in May.
  • 7lb claim helps, but recent runs suggest he struggles in stronger-run handicaps.
  • Drop back to 5f not certain to suit – more a 6f horse.

Sensorium (Cunha/Egan) – Promising

  • York 3rd in a valuable C2 shows raw ability.
  • Weakened late here last time at 6f – this sharp 5f test on quick ground could suit.
  • Only a 3yo, still open to progress.

Marajito (Easterby/Hardie) – Promising but Raw

  • Blistering front-runner, but often overdoes it.
  • Easy maiden win two runs back, but folded quickly latest when pressured.
  • Could be pace-maker; hard to see her lasting home if challenged early.

Interesting Outsiders

Binadham (de Foy/Cosgrave) – Class Dropper

  • Exposed in hot company (Group/LR) and well beaten on return to C4 last month.
  • Clearly has talent but looks hard to place – probably needs 6f.
  • Drop back to 5f on GF may again be too sharp.

Jacquelina (McEntee) – Exposed Mare

  • Game veteran, multiple 5f wins, but regressive overall.
  • Flashes of form (Nottingham win in July) but poor either side.
  • Needs things to fall perfectly.

Muma Myflo (Williams/Ghiani) – Unexposed but Wrong Trip

  • Cracksman filly – bred for middle distances, yet dropped to 5f.
  • Has shown ability in maidens, but 5f on fast ground looks too sharp.
  • Big outsider profile, hard to fancy.

Runner Scores (Suitability 10 = perfect fit)

  • Tiva – 8/10 (in-form, track/trip fine, consistent filly)
  • Catch Cunningham – 8/10 (course proven, closers’ race, but hostage to luck)
  • HK Fourteen – 8/10 (progressive sprinter, can step up again)
  • Sensorium – 7/10 (scopey 3yo, drop to 5f a possible plus)
  • Rebel Path – 6/10 (better at 6f, but class/claim helps)
  • Marajito – 6/10 (raw speed, likely burns out)
  • Binadham – 5/10 (class edge but wrong trip)
  • Jacquelina – 5/10 (well-handicapped at best but regressive)
  • Muma Myflo – 3/10 (trip wrong, likely outpaced)

Private Tissue (100%)

  • Tiva 7/2
  • HK Fourteen 4/1
  • Catch Cunningham 9/2
  • Sensorium 6/1
  • Rebel Path 8/1
  • Marajito 10/1
  • Binadham 14/1
  • Jacquelina 20/1
  • Muma Myflo 40/1

Summary & Smart Play

This sets up for a strong pace collapse, suiting stalkers and closers. Tiva is the solid filly with momentum, while HK Fourteen is still improving and looks a major danger. Catch Cunningham is knocking loudly and well suited to C&D.

Smart Play:

  • Win bet – Tiva (solid, reliable 3yo with more to come at C4).
  • Each-way saver – Catch Cunningham (C&D runs mark him down as ready to strike if pace plays right).
