Race Shape / Draw:
Redcar 6f often favours pace from a low/mid draw if they can grab the stands rail. This looks an even to strong pace with Golden Prosperity likely to press on, Brian The Snail and Bibendum racing handier, while Bern Rossetti and Filey Beach could track leaders. Stiff finish brings hold-up types into play if the leaders overdo it.
Strongest Contenders
Brian The Snail – 9-9 (OR 55) Draw 3 – Patrick Morris
Proven old stager, still running with credit. 2nd here last time when holding position early (rare for him) before finding a younger rival too strong. Notebook entries confirm he’s reliant on a strong gallop and a bit of luck in running, but his mark is workable (11lb lower turf vs AW). Conditions fine, track suits. Reliable placer, but wins are harder to come by now.
Rating: 7/10 – Competitive, needs things to fall right.
Golden Prosperity – 9-6 (OR 52) Draw 6 – Tony Coyle
Four-time winner, including Thirsk last time at classified level. Nearly followed up at Southwell under penalty. Handles turf, consistent for the grade, though wins often spaced. Tends to race prominently which is no bad thing here.
Rating: 7/10 – In form, solid chance but not bombproof.
Filey Beach – 9-0 (OR 46) Draw 1 – Ruth Carr
Lightly raced since joining Ruth Carr and stepping up steadily. Best yet when 4th at Pontefract latest (6f, soft), keeping on. Looks to be finding form and deserves a win. Strongly hinted in notebook that he’s better than bare results. Good low draw could help him stalk pace.
Rating: 8/10 – Improving profile, well treated, live win chance.
Main Dangers
Bibendum – 9-4 (OR 50) Draw 4 – Julie Camacho
Still a maiden but occasionally threatens, placed at Wetherby and Ponte this year. Travels okay but struggles to find much off the bridle. Yard in form.
Rating: 6/10 – Place squeak, lacks conviction.
Bern Rossetti – 9-3 (OR 52) Draw 5 – Tim Easterby
Three-year-old with more upside than most. Poor at Redcar last time (never landed a blow), but earlier form (3rd Muss 5f, 2nd Bevl 5f maiden) suggests ability. Still learning, could step forward.
Rating: 6/10 – Unexposed, but unreliable so far.
Canaria Sun – 9-1 (OR 50) Draw 2 – Tim Easterby
Another 3yo. Some mild promise at Ponte last time, but remains winless and often lacks finishing kick. Needs more.
Rating: 5/10 – Possible minor improvement, but limited appeal.
Outsider Angles
- Bern Rossetti (3yo with upside, if putting it together).
- Canaria Sun (drawn low, could get a tow into it).
Private Tissue (my view of fair odds):
- Filey Beach 3/1
- Brian The Snail 7/2
- Golden Prosperity 9/2
- Bibendum 7/1
- Bern Rossetti 8/1
- Canaria Sun 10/1
- Others 14/1+
Summary
Stiff 6f at Redcar should bring late players into it, but a well-drawn prominent runner may take catching if not overcooked up front.
Smart Play:
- Win Bet: Filey Beach – looks on the up, well drawn, trainer adept with this type.
- Saver: Brian The Snail each-way – admirable veteran, well handicapped on turf, always needs luck but likely to be in the mix.
