Race Conditions & Angles
Class 1, Group 3, £80k pot. Seven furlongs at Goodwood, stalls centre. Going: Good to Firm.
Track bias: sharp turning 7f, often suits those who can travel strongly and quicken; draw can be neutral to slightly favourable low if pace develops inside.
Pace outlook: Several like to be handy (Moon Target, Precise, Orion’s Belt), suggesting a true even pace. Hold-up horses may need luck in running.
Strongest Contenders
Moon Target (Sir Mark Prescott) – Proven, progressive
2/2 over 7f, both wins stylish and with plenty in hand. RPRs of 86 twice suggest more to come, and Prescott’s types often step forward markedly when pitched into pattern company. Draw 7 okay, should race handy.
Precise (A P O’Brien) – Promising, lightly raced
Made a big impression winning a maiden at Cork last time, travelling like a pattern performer. By Starspangledbanner, should handle fast ground and sharp 7f. Ballydoyle filly usually targeted at this race type when well regarded.
Jennifer Jane (Charlie Johnston) – Strong form in the book
Close second in Listed company at Sandown last time; progressive RPRs (84 → 89). Already looks Listed level, shape says she’ll stay this trip well.
Main Dangers
Aylin (Karl Burke) – Potential player
Wide-margin maiden winner at Goodwood (soft) but conditions completely different here. Pedigree says she’ll handle quicker ground but hasn’t yet proven it.
Sukanya (Jack Channon) – Interesting profile
Impressive in novice at Newbury, then not disgraced in Group 3 at Ascot. Stamina for 7f looks a plus, RPR 87 fair, and could outrun odds.
Outsiders with Interest
Spinning Lizzie – big run in Goodwood nursery (2nd in valuable handicap, fast ground form, RPR 83). Has experience but may be just short of G3 class.
Stimulative Trip – unbeaten in one start but bare form only fair; bred to progress.
Runner Ratings (suitability out of 10)
- Moon Target – 9/10: Progressive, strong finisher, ideal setup.
- Precise – 8.5/10: Ballydoyle filly, strong maiden, big upside.
- Jennifer Jane – 8/10: Listed form, solid.
- Aylin – 7.5/10: Course winner, ground query.
- Sukanya – 7/10: Learning, could improve at 7f.
- Orion’s Belt – 6.5/10: Consistent, but looks just shy of G3.
- Spinning Lizzie – 6.5/10: Likeable, exposed handicapper type.
- Stimulative Trip – 6/10: Only novice form, needs jump forward.
Each-Way Angles
With 8 runners and EW terms, Jennifer Jane appeals as a solid each-way play – proven at Listed level, should be in the frame. Sukanya another live outsider if market support comes.
Private Tissue (my odds)
- Moon Target 9/4 (fav)
- Precise 3/1
- Jennifer Jane 5/1
- Aylin 6/1
- Sukanya 10/1
- Orion’s Belt 12/1
- Spinning Lizzie 16/1
- Stimulative Trip 20/1
Summary
Strong renewal with unexposed fillies. Moon Target looks the one with proven class and scope, while Precise brings Ballydoyle intrigue. Jennifer Jane the solid each-way against the top two, with Sukanya an interesting improver at bigger odds.
Smart Play
- Win bet: Moon Target – looks a Group filly in the making.
- Each-way saver: Jennifer Jane – rock-solid form, should be in the three.
