1.40 Leicester: Visit racingtv.com Apprentice Handicap (Div 1) (7f, Good To Soft)

HorseTimeWise Total RatingRecent TimeWise Form (LR, 2LR, 3LR)
3 Amathus (IRE)22776, 18, 18
2 Bear To Dream (IRE)21262, 29, 13

3 Amathus (IRE) (Master Top Rated)

Summary of Recent Form and Supplied Comments
This 8-year-old won two of his last three starts, both being 7f handicaps on good to firm ground. He previously finished second over this course and distance (C&D) in May (good to soft). He is often slowly away.
Assessment of Chances
Strengths: Arrives in current good form. Has proven C&D form on suitable ground (good to soft). He is considered a strong option.
Weaknesses: Habitually slow away. Recent wins were on quicker ground (good to firm), raising questions about performance on good to soft.
Suitability: Cannot be discounted given his recent winning form.

2 Bear To Dream (IRE) (Master Second Rated)

Summary of Recent Form and Supplied Comments
This 6-year-old won two minor events over 7f in midsummer. She has run consistently well lately, finishing runner-up over 1m on her last two starts.
Assessment of Chances
Strengths: Solid form recently, including two wins over 7f.
Weaknesses: The prospect of running on ground slower than good is a worrying factor. Ridden by an inexperienced apprentice.
Suitability: Holds appeal based on recent form, but suitability for the ground conditions is questionable.

Spotlight Verdict

Money for the handicap newcomer Wrydcroft would alter the complexion of the race but as things stand the most appealing options look to be Amathus, Homer Stokes (second choice) and CANDLE OF TIME. The selection has threatened better in her seven-race career and a repeat of her penultimate Doncaster third may suffice.

5 All Too Beautiful22860, 34, 16
4 Shark Two One22660, 26, 14

5 All Too Beautiful (Master Top Rated)

Summary of Recent Form and Supplied Comments
This 3-year-old was knocking on the door before achieving a 6f win at Windsor (good to firm) last month. She subsequently ran similar form when finishing second at Bath (5.3f, soft) 19 days ago. She placed third over C&D in her only previous attempt at this trip.
Assessment of Chances
Strengths: Less exposed than her rivals and is still improving. Showed solid form recently, including placing on soft ground. Has demonstrated ability over this trip (C&D third). Looks sure to run well.
Weaknesses: None specified, but has only attempted this trip once (resulting in a third place).
Suitability: Highly suitable, selected as the predicted winner.

4 Shark Two One (Master Second Rated)

Summary of Recent Form and Supplied Comments
This 7-year-old runs well at this track. He achieved his second C&D win in a classified event in June (good to firm) and handles all going. He has placed in three handicaps since that win.
Assessment of Chances
Strengths: Proven C&D specialist (two wins). Versatile regarding going conditions. His rider’s claim is a significant advantage at this level. A solid contender.
Weaknesses: Exposed compared to the leading selection.
Suitability: Holds strong claims as a major contender.

Spotlight Verdict

Shark Two One, Grand Citadel and Ahamoment (second choice) are all solid contenders but ALL TOO BEAUTIFUL is less exposed than those rivals and she still looks to be improving.

2.43 Leicester: Leicester Racecourse Maiden Fillies’ Stakes (GBB Race) (7f, Good To Soft)

Note: This race features numerous debutantes, meaning the TimeWise Total ratings for the top two horses are largely based on unexposed potential/pedigree rather than recent race performance.

HorseTimeWise Total RatingRecent TimeWise Form (LR, 2LR, 3LR)
13 Winged One (IRE)400, 0, 0
1 Blue Noon (IRE)380, 0, 0

13 Winged One (IRE) (Master Top Rated)

Summary of Recent Form and Supplied Comments
Debutante. She is a sister to 1m3f-1m6f winner Australian Angel (RPR 90) and closely related to four winners, including Eagle Angel (9.5f AW 2yo; 88). Her dam was a US Grade 3 winner.
Assessment of Chances
Strengths: Strong pedigree, particularly suggesting aptitude for middle distances.
Weaknesses: This 7f trip might prove insufficient given her pedigree hints at longer distances. She is likely a longer-term prospect.
Suitability: Debutante. Probably best suited to middle distances next season.

1 Blue Noon (IRE) (Master Second Rated)

Summary of Recent Form and Supplied Comments
Debutante. A 420,000 euros yearling. She is a sister to the 1m winner Naepoint (RPR 94). Represents a powerful stable (R. Hannon) and looks impressive on paper.
Assessment of Chances
Strengths: Excellent pedigree and sale price. Represents a powerful stable.
Weaknesses: Debutante, lacking race experience. Ranked fourth in the Spotlight selection list.
Suitability: Highly regarded debutante; requires a close market check for confidence.

Spotlight Verdict

Sydney Rock looks the pick of those with experience and she’s open to further progress but the suspicion is she may need more of a test than this to be seen to maximum effect. There are several newcomers of interest in the field and MISS SCOTT is tentatively preferred to Palace Artois, Emilia Casanova and Blue Noon.

3.18 Leicester: In Memory Of Jessica Gamble Fillies’ Nursery (6f, Good To Soft)

HorseTimeWise Total RatingRecent TimeWise Form (LR, 2LR, 3LR)
3 Perfect Location27979, 44, 15
2 Spacewoman26370, 30, 23

3 Perfect Location (Master Top Rated)

Summary of Recent Form and Supplied Comments
Ran exclusively over 6f. She built on an encouraging first run at Windsor by securing a narrow win at Southwell. She ran acceptably from a modest draw in a tough sales race last time. She makes her nursery debut and Rossa Ryan is booked.
Assessment of Chances
Strengths: Recent winner who runs over a proven distance (6f). Good runs in qualifying races. Highly respected for nursery debut. Ranks among the chief dangers in the verdict.
Weaknesses: Slower than good ground would be a query.
Suitability: Leading contender for her handicap debut.

2 Spacewoman (Master Second Rated)

Summary of Recent Form and Supplied Comments
She has shown clear promise in her three runs (novice and maiden company), achieving her best RPR when beaten a head on debut (6f, good to firm). She makes her nursery debut at a suitable level.
Assessment of Chances
Strengths: Debut run showed strong ability. Enters handicap company at a realistic mark.
Weaknesses: Has not looked straightforward. Slower ground conditions are a concern for her.
Suitability: Holds appeal based on debut promise.

Spotlight Verdict

The ground is an unknown where PULL THE RUG is concerned but she looks to have entered handicaps on a favourable mark and returning to 6f can see her get off the mark. Dangers abound, with Perfect Location, Q T Pie, Miss Piggle and Piazza all having something to recommend them.

3.53 Leicester: British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes (GBB Race) (7f, Good To Soft)

Note: This is a race exclusively for horses that have never run, hence the reliance on low Total ratings derived from pedigree and stable strength.

5 Go Rimbaud560, 0, 0
4 Eklleem550, 0, 0

5 Go Rimbaud (Master Top Rated)

Summary of Recent Form and Supplied Comments
Debutante. Second foal from a French 1m/1m1f winning dam. Dam is a sister to French Group 1 winners We Are and With You. Represents the powerful Gosden stable.
Assessment of Chances
Strengths: Impeccable pedigree, with numerous Group 1 winners in the immediate family. Represents a powerhouse stable. Ranks as the second choice in the Spotlight Verdict.
Weaknesses: Debutante, lacks experience.
Suitability: High-quality debutante who should be monitored closely.

4 Eklleem (Master Second Rated)

Summary of Recent Form and Supplied Comments
Debutante. A 200,000gns yearling. Half-brother to winners Abstinence (RPR 104) and Vega Sicilia (RPR 98). Dam was a French Listed winner. Trained by William Haggas.
Assessment of Chances
Strengths: Appealing pedigree and strong connections. Described as a leading contender.
Weaknesses: Debutante, lacks experience.
Suitability: Expected to be highly competitive on debut.

Spotlight Verdict

The betting will doubtless be informative but as things stand MOVING SHADOW is suggested to provide Karl Burke with yet another 2yo winner. Go Rimbaud and Eklleem look best of the rest.

4.30 Leicester: British EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes (GBB/GBBplus Race) (1m2f, Good To Soft)

HorseTimeWise Total RatingRecent TimeWise Form (LR, 2LR, 3LR)
8 Majaz27260, 31, 15
6 Halcyonic26274, 0, 0

8 Majaz (Master Top Rated)

Summary of Recent Form and Supplied Comments
This 3-year-old has finished runner-up in all four runs this year. She has proven she stays 1m2f. In her last three outings, she was beaten when sent off at short odds (2-9, 11-10, and 10-11).
Assessment of Chances
Strengths: Brings the strongest established form in the race. Proven staying power at this distance. Expected to give her running.
Weaknesses: Vulnerable to improvers as she has failed to win when heavily favoured previously. Slower than good ground would be a query.
Suitability: Candidate on form, but poses a risk for supporters due to previous defeats when well-fancied.

6 Halcyonic (Master Second Rated)

Summary of Recent Form and Supplied Comments
Made an encouraging debut 17 days ago at Kempton (1m) where she kept on for fifth. Her pedigree suggests lots of stamina, making this 1m2f trip more suitable. She is unexposed.
Assessment of Chances
Strengths: Unexposed and open to significant improvement. Pedigree suggests the step up to 1m2f is highly suitable. Respected as a potential improver.
Weaknesses: Only one run to date.
Suitability: Fits the requirement for a less-exposed contender who can challenge the form horses.

Spotlight Verdict

Majaz and Participle bring the strongest form but they have been a thorn in the side of their supporters this season and could be vulnerable to less-exposed rivals once again. Halcyonic and Berezka fit the bill but so too does DESERT SPRING. The Gosdens’ filly is from a fine middle-distance family and she can leave last autumn’s encouraging 7f debut well behind her this year.

5.05 Leicester: Fantastic Fireworks Fillies’ Handicap (7f, Good To Soft)

HorseTimeWise Total RatingRecent TimeWise Form (LR, 2LR, 3LR)
6 Dream Illusion25668, 28, 13
1 Secret Sonata24767, 31, 12

6 Dream Illusion (Master Top Rated)

Summary of Recent Form and Supplied Comments
Her 7f AW win in May occurred off a 1lb higher mark. She ran behind Autumn Rose at Haydock 17 days ago, where she was hampered slightly by having to wait for a gap. She appears to handle ground slower than good.
Assessment of Chances
Strengths: Runs off a favourable mark (1lb lower than previous win). Capable on ground slower than good. Expected to go well and ranked as second choice in the verdict.
Weaknesses: Finished behind Autumn Rose last time.
Suitability: Remains competitive and is expected to run well.

1 Secret Sonata (Master Second Rated)

Summary of Recent Form and Supplied Comments
This filly has demonstrated steady progress across her three career starts. Most recently, she finished third of nine runners at Southwell (7f, AW) 18 days ago, having dictated the pace. She makes her handicap debut.
Assessment of Chances
Strengths: Unexposed filly making her handicap debut at a realistic level. Consistent progress shown in qualifying runs.
Weaknesses: None specified in relation to trip or ground compatibility.
Suitability: Considered a strong chance due to her unexposed nature.

Spotlight Verdict

Dream Illusion (second choice) can reverse Haydock placings with Autumn Rose and go well, while Magic Music’s family tree points to significant improvement at some point. Secret Sonata is another unexposed filly to consider but preference is for MARGORIE (nap). Her latest Windsor win was something of a shock but it was her first run on slow ground and she was powering home in the final furlong. Today’s trip should suit and she isn’t being overfaced for her handicap debut.

5.38 Leicester: Leicester Racecourse Christmas Parties Book Now Handicap (6f, Good To Soft)

HorseTimeWise Total RatingRecent TimeWise Form (LR, 2LR, 3LR)
1 Kranjcar (IRE)27785, 35, 19
2 Connies Rose26487, 30, 13

1 Kranjcar (IRE) (Master Top Rated)

Summary of Recent Form and Supplied Comments
Secured his fifth win this season last Monday at Brighton (7f, soft). The 5lb penalty means he runs off a mark 25lb higher than his first win in April. He is clearly well suited by switchback tracks.
Assessment of Chances
Strengths: In excellent form, winning recently on soft ground. Popular contender due to his winning habit.
Weaknesses: Must prove he is as effective over a stiff, straight 6f at Leicester. High in the weights following multiple penalties.
Suitability: Leading contender, but the specific characteristics of this course (stiff, straight 6f) raise a question mark.

2 Connies Rose (Master Second Rated)

Summary of Recent Form and Supplied Comments
This 6-year-old is a Chepstow specialist and won on her only previous start at Leicester (C&D). She is ultra-consistent.
Assessment of Chances
Strengths: Proven C&D winner. Undulating courses like Leicester pose no difficulty. Highly consistent performer.
Weaknesses: Little room for manoeuvre off her current mark. High in the weights.
Suitability: Hard to dismiss from calculations.

Spotlight Verdict

Kranjcar is clearly well at home round switchback courses and now has to prove he’s as effective over a stiff, straight 6f. The undulations won’t prove any obstacle to Chepstow specialist Connie’s Rose but she’s high in the weights now and preference is for YAZAMAN, who’s worth another go at 6f and remains on a winning mark. On Edge and Wichahpi complete the shortlist.
