1.30 Listowel: Irish EBF Median Sires Series Maiden (Smullen Series) (1m, Heavy)

HorseTimeWise Total RatingRecent TimeWise Form (LR, 2LR, 3LR)
2 Sutton Hoo (IRE)27075, 0, 0
8 Castelluccia (IRE)26280, 42, 11

2 Sutton Hoo (IRE) (Master Top Rated)

Summary of Recent Form and Supplied Comments
This 2-year-old is a half-brother to four winners and his dam is a half-sister to Group 2 winner Banimpire. He kept on for sixth on debut in a decent Gowran maiden last month.
Assessment of Chances
Strengths: Strong pedigree link to successful winners.
Weaknesses: Needs to build on his debut effort.
Suitability: Needs to demonstrate improvement at this level.

8 Castelluccia (IRE) (Master Second Rated)

Summary of Recent Form and Supplied Comments
Never threatened on her Curragh debut in May but reappeared for her current yard with a much-improved effort last month at Leopardstown (7f, good), finishing a strong second while still appearing green. Her last outing at Navan involved a likely unsuitable drop to 6f.
Assessment of Chances
Strengths: Displayed recent, strong finishing form at Leopardstown. Likely to benefit from the step up in trip today.
Weaknesses: Her suitability to the heavy ground is unknown.
Suitability: Holds potential given her improving form and preference for a longer trip.

Spotlight Verdict

Andy Slattery’s CHERRY HILL GIRL was all the rage in the market last time when disappointing, but she had excuses and may set the record straight now. Joseph O’Brien has a decent record in this race, so it would be foolhardy to overlook Substance who appears the pick of his two and he is likely to come on from his reasonable Curragh debut. Castellucia looks like she will benefit from this step up in trip, while Now Maybe could prove the pick of the debutantes but needs to give weight away to most.

2.02 Listowel: Visit Millennium Machinery Open House Exhibition 9th – 11th October Handicap (1m, Heavy)

HorseTimeWise Total RatingRecent TimeWise Form (LR, 2LR, 3LR)
1 Touted Plan (IRE)24969, 43, 20
2 Daonethatgotaway24158, 22, 14

1 Touted Plan (IRE) (Master Top Rated)

Summary of Recent Form and Supplied Comments
The horse handles an ease in the ground, shown by winning a maiden at Bellewstown. She has been demonstrating consistent form.
Assessment of Chances
Strengths: Consistent recent performance.
Weaknesses: Might not be best suited by the softer/heavy ground conditions and carries plenty of weight.
Suitability: Ground conditions are a major concern.

2 Daonethatgotaway (Master Second Rated)

Summary of Recent Form and Supplied Comments
Showed good form on the AW earlier in the year and continued that on turf when winning at Bellewstown. This horse was a C&D winner last season on good ground.
Assessment of Chances
Strengths: Proven C&D winner. Consistent form across surfaces.
Weaknesses: May find the heavy conditions too demanding.
Suitability: Highly dependent on handling the heavy ground.

Spotlight Verdict

This looks like a good opportunity for DRAGON OF MALTA to record his first win since the 2023 festival. He shaped well at Gowran last month and may see off a likely challenge of Racing Royalty who is suited by testing conditions and was a C&D winner two seasons ago. Vlhova is another with ground conditions to suit and solid recent form.

2.37 Listowel: Tote, Never Beaten By SP Maiden (1m, Heavy)

HorseTimeWise Total RatingRecent TimeWise Form (LR, 2LR, 3LR)
8 Moon Reign28879, 0, 0
9 Naples (IRE)28576, 31, 19

8 Moon Reign (Master Top Rated)

Summary of Recent Form and Supplied Comments
This 3-year-old had an encouraging debut last month at Galway, staying on late into a close fourth over an extended 1m. He is closely related to 1m2f winner Crystal Mariner.
Assessment of Chances
Strengths: Displayed staying power on debut. Considered one of the likelier contenders. Choice of jockey Dylan Browne McMonagle.
Weaknesses: None explicitly listed, but facing a difficult belated debutante selection.
Suitability: Well-suited by the conditions and trip.

9 Naples (IRE) (Master Second Rated)

Summary of Recent Form and Supplied Comments
Showed poor form in the middle of her three runs, but ran much more encouragingly at Cork 12 days ago, keeping on well for a 1.75l second over 1m on soft ground. She was sent off at evens for her Limerick debut.
Assessment of Chances
Strengths: Good recent run on soft ground suggests suitability for today’s heavy conditions.
Weaknesses: Failed to land a blow in her second start. Described as possibly lacking the talent of others.
Suitability: Conditions should suit.

Spotlight Verdict

Aidan O’Brien and Jack Cleary have won the last two runnings of this and they look to have a great chance of continuing their streak with the well-bred MAESTRO BERNSTEIN making a belated debut. The main challenge is likely to come from Moon Reign who was a close fourth on debut last month and is the choice of McMonagle. Lady Lilac will be suited by the conditions underfoot and the return to a mile, so is another worth considering.

3.12 Listowel: Liam & Joan Healy Memorial Handicap (1m½f, Heavy)

HorseTimeWise Total RatingRecent TimeWise Form (LR, 2LR, 3LR)
4 Annies Angel (IRE)28066, 38, 23
1 Grey Leader (IRE)26576, 24, 23

4 Annies Angel (IRE) (Master Top Rated)

Summary of Recent Form and Supplied Comments
A winner on heavy ground at Galway last October. Her best run since was in July when just denied by a subsequent Group 3 winner in a Killarney handicap (1m3f, soft). She was less effective on better ground subsequently. Blinkers are added for today’s race.
Assessment of Chances
Strengths: Proven ability on heavy ground. Strong form in July against a Group 3 winner. Blinkers are expected to help bring out her best.
Weaknesses: Was not as effective on quicker ground recently.
Suitability: Highly suited by the heavy ground conditions. Expected winner.

1 Grey Leader (IRE) (Master Second Rated)

Summary of Recent Form and Supplied Comments
One of his four wins came at the Galway festival last year. He was chasing home an easy winner at Killarney in July, running close to his best. He is closely matched with Rhythm King based on recent running at Galway and has won off higher marks previously.
Assessment of Chances
Strengths: Proven ability to handle festival pressure (Galway winner). Has a history of winning off higher marks.
Weaknesses: None specified.
Suitability: Holds solid claims.

Spotlight Verdict

The ground should help to bring out the best again in the first-time blinkered ANNIE’S ANGEL who was second to a subsequent Group 3 winner at Killarney on her penultimate start. Secret Magician ran his best race of the season at Galway 12 days ago and is also suited by soft ground. Rhythm King, who ran in a premier handicap last time, should be more competitive in this company.

3.47 Listowel: Kevins Bar, Listowel/Exchange Inn, Ballybunion Handicap (1m3f, Heavy)

HorseTimeWise Total RatingRecent TimeWise Form (LR, 2LR, 3LR)
3 Chica Guerrera (IRE)25585, 28, 12
7 Justenzia (IRE)23886, 25, 14

3 Chica Guerrera (IRE) (Master Top Rated)

Summary of Recent Form and Supplied Comments
Won a 7f nursery on soft-to-heavy ground last October at Gowran. Recently appreciated the step up to 1m4f when winning a rated race at Tramore, where the runner-up subsequently won their next start. LR: 85.
Assessment of Chances
Strengths: Proven ability on soft-to-heavy ground. Recent win demonstrates good form and the subsequent performance of the runner-up provides a useful yardstick. Good chance.
Weaknesses: None explicitly detailed.
Suitability: Highly suitable for today’s trip and heavy ground.

7 Justenzia (IRE) (Master Second Rated)

Summary of Recent Form and Supplied Comments
Her best effort came when runner-up in a 1m2f Chepstow handicap in May. She recently won at Clonmel by taking advantage of a drop in class, running in first-time cheekpieces (discarded now). The 7lb rise in weight is offset by the rider’s claim. LR: 86.
Assessment of Chances
Strengths: Recent winner. The rider’s claim negates the imposed penalty.
Weaknesses: Cheekpieces are removed after her win.
Suitability: Holds claims, particularly with the weight reduction.

Spotlight Verdict

Back on the Flat after two seconds in juvenile hurdles, BRIDEZILLA has a good chance based on a near-miss Limerick in June. Form involving the winner of that race is linked to likely danger Chica Guerrera. Coulsty’s Way is another with a leading chance.

4.20 Listowel: John McGuire Handicap (Premier Handicap) (1m3f, Heavy)

HorseTimeWise Total RatingRecent TimeWise Form (LR, 2LR, 3LR)
11 Thatwilldoso (IRE)30290, 44, 21
3 Smooth Tom (IRE)301102, 33, 17

11 Thatwilldoso (IRE) (Master Top Rated)

Summary of Recent Form and Supplied Comments
Currently in flying form, having secured wins at Roscommon and the Galway races recently. He posted another positive effort when finishing second at Sligo four days later under a penalty. LR: 90.
Assessment of Chances
Strengths: Exceptional recent form, including two back-to-back wins. Back up in trip, which is considered the right move.
Weaknesses: None specified, but placed third in the Spotlight selection list.
Suitability: Highly suitable given recent momentum and trip adjustment.

3 Smooth Tom (IRE) (Master Second Rated)

Summary of Recent Form and Supplied Comments
No specific recent form summary or comments are provided in the sources, other than the raw TimeWise data. LR: 102.
Assessment of Chances
Strengths: Carries the second-highest TimeWise Total rating (301) and a high LR score (102).
Weaknesses: Absence of recent commentary suggests difficulty in assessing current suitability or form trend.
Suitability: Based purely on TimeWise assessment, he is a major contender.

Spotlight Verdict

This has an open look to it with CRISTAL CLERE given the tentative nod to gain his first win since 2023 on ground he likes and off an unchanged mark since he went close last time. The step back up in trip looks like the right move for Thatwilldoso, while Starford is progressive, but the form of his neck second last time looks shaky. Clear Quartz, Granite Bay and Burren Song have interlocking form following their Roscommon meeting, where the first mentioned came out on top but Granite Bay may be able to overturn him now, given he was a winner here last year.

4.55 Listowel: Eric Browne Memorial Maiden (1m3f, Heavy)

HorseTimeWise Total RatingRecent TimeWise Form (LR, 2LR, 3LR)
13 Jannah Star (IRE)28374, 35, 22
10 Sears Crossing (IRE)25474, 33, 19

13 Jannah Star (IRE) (Master Top Rated)

Summary of Recent Form and Supplied Comments
This 3-year-old has been a beaten favourite on all four of her outings. Her most recent run was a third-place finish at the Galway festival, 3/4l behind Generous Support. First-time cheekpieces are applied for today’s race. She is the trainer’s preferred runner. LR: 74.
Assessment of Chances
Strengths: Consistent placing (three consecutive seconds/thirds prior to Galway). Cheekpieces may help her find her winning form.
Weaknesses: Hard to be confident due to her track record of being a beaten favourite.
Suitability: May get her act together with the addition of cheekpieces.

10 Sears Crossing (IRE) (Master Second Rated)

Summary of Recent Form and Supplied Comments
He has placed over 1m2f at Leopardstown and 1m4f at Roscommon on his last two starts. He holds the same official rating (78) as the fillies Generous Support and Jannah Star. LR: 74.
Assessment of Chances
Strengths: Consistent recent placing. Expected to reach the money again.
Weaknesses: None specified.
Suitability: Fair chance based on recent form over similar distances.

Spotlight Verdict

Four of these boast an official rating in the high 70s, in a range likely to be good enough to have winning prospects in a maiden of this type. However, they face two Ballydoyle-trained runners with formidable pedigree credentials. INFUSION is out of a mare who hacked up in the Oaks on soft ground. She may be better equipped to deal with the going than stablemate Grafton Street. The frustrating Jannah Star may get her act together with cheekpieces added.

5.25 Listowel: Treo Eile Retraining Ireland’s Racehorses Handicap (1m6½f, Heavy)

HorseTimeWise Total RatingRecent TimeWise Form (LR, 2LR, 3LR)
12 Glady Eagle (IRE)27573, 0, 0
1 Dark Note26468, 32, 15

12 Glady Eagle (IRE) (Master Top Rated)

Summary of Recent Form and Supplied Comments
He won two of his ten starts in Poland. He returned from a 421-day break and finished third in a Tipperary handicap last month (12.5f, yielding), where he was well backed but likely did too much too soon. He is still an entire. LR: 73.
Assessment of Chances
Strengths: Can build on his stable debut run following the long break. Considered the key player in the race and is expected to reward supporters now.
Weaknesses: Lack of recent match fitness prior to his debut run.
Suitability: Well-suited to the conditions; expected to perform significantly better with a run under his belt.

1 Dark Note (Master Second Rated)

Summary of Recent Form and Supplied Comments
A versatile sort who won a Tipperary novice chase in July and subsequently secured back-to-back runner-up finishes in small-field chases. He recently showed a solid effort back on the Flat at Clonmel over 2m on soft ground. LR: 68.
Assessment of Chances
Strengths: Consistent solid form, demonstrated recently on soft ground over a long trip.
Weaknesses: Suitability for heavy ground is a concern.
Suitability: Holds potential if he handles the very soft going.

Spotlight Verdict

Well-backed to win on Irish debut for Willie Mullins after a long absence, GLADY EAGLE likely did too much too soon and can reward the faithful here with that run under his belt. Plunkett Street finished behind the selection that day but is now better off at the weights. Spring Evening runs well fresh and shows he handles softer.
