1.45 Sky Sports Racing Virgin 519 Novice Stakes (GBB Race) (Class 5)

Distance: 1m 4f (AW)
Going: Standard

RankHorse (TimeWise Master Rating)Running StyleTrainer (W-R)
1Master Vintner (306 Total)P (Pressed leaders)R Beckett (59%)
2Gold Penny (273 Total)P (Pressed leaders)J & T Gosden (79%)

Recent Form and Supplied Comments

Master Vintner
He finished third on his Navan debut over 1m 2f (good) in May and made a successful debut for his current yard at Goodwood (1m 2f, heavy) three weeks ago. He is a half-brother to a couple of AW winners and holds strong claims under his penalty.

Gold Penny
She has finished third in both her starts, the latest at Kempton (1m 4f, Polytrack) last month. Handicaps are an option after this, but she is still a player based on her performance so far.

Spotlight Verdict

This can go to MASTER VINTNER who built on his promising debut third behind Scandinavia when making a successful start for Ralph Beckett at Goodwood three weeks ago. He can defy the penalty. Frank Stamper has shown promise in all three starts and is second choice, ahead of Gold Penny.

Assessment of Chances

HorseStrengthsWeaknessesSuitability/Chances
Master VintnerRecent winning form, proven on heavy ground (suggesting stamina), bred to have AW winners, holds strong claims.Must defy a penalty.Selected as the winner who can defy the penalty.
Gold PennyConsistent (placed in both starts, including over this trip on Polytrack).Needs to break her maiden tag before moving to handicaps.Still considered a player by the commentary.

2.15 Download The At The Races App Handicap (Class 6)

Distance: 1m 2f (AW)
Going: Standard

RankHorse (TimeWise Master Rating)Running StyleTrainer (W-R)
1Dors Delight (235 Total)P (Pressed leaders)D Ivory (75%)
2Birthday Angel (211 Total)H (Held up)Lydia Richards (0%)

Recent Form and Supplied Comments

Dors Delight
She has run all 13 times on AW. She was runner-up at Wolverhampton in April after 77 days off, and broke through at Chelmsford last month after 79 days off.

Birthday Angel
She is a maiden (0-15 under both codes). She has hit the frame the last twice, including when running over C&D 19 days ago, although she was not seen to best effect.

Spotlight Verdict

Support for either Chico Dulce (makes more appeal) or Pyrrhic Dancer off sizeable breaks could trigger a saver but BIRTHDAY ANGEL is the selection. He wasn’t seen to best effect having been dropped in from the widest stall over C&D 19 days ago.

Assessment of Chances

HorseStrengthsWeaknessesSuitability/Chances
Dors DelightProven AW performer (13 runs on AW), recent winner.Obvious claims only if she’s not best fresh (her wins/placing came after breaks).Holds obvious claims if she performs well in her first spin here.
Birthday AngelDefinite claims in refitted visor, ran well recently despite C&D issues, hit the frame in last two starts.Long losing streak (0-15).Chosen as the primary selection, expected to perform well with better luck.

2.45 Download The Racecourse App Raceday Ready Nursery Handicap (Class 5)

Distance: 6f (AW)
Going: Standard

RankHorse (TimeWise Master Rating)Running StyleTrainer (W-R)
1Portacloy (282 Total)P (Pressed leaders)D & C Kubler (56%)
2Riffa Spirit (259 Total)P (Pressed leaders)S & E Crisford (48%)

Recent Form and Supplied Comments

Portacloy
She showed promise making the frame in her first two starts on turf, and built on that by winning a maiden over C&D earlier this month. She is still open to improvement and is high on the list for her nursery debut.

Riffa Spirit
He improved from his debut when just beating a subsequent winner in a Chelmsford novice (6f, Polytrack) last month. He is the least exposed in the field.

Spotlight Verdict

Star Of Albion has looked progressive on turf prior to this nursery/AW debut, but his tendency to hang would be a concern on this sharp track. There are no such concerns with PORTACLOY, though, and she is taken to follow up her maiden success over C&D earlier this month. Despite his wide draw Startled is second choice after catching the eye at Chelmsford on his last two runs, while the unexposed Riffa Spirit and Corniche Girl (both winners last time out) complete the shortlist.

Assessment of Chances

HorseStrengthsWeaknessesSuitability/Chances
PortacloyRecent C&D winner, open to improvement, no concerns regarding handling the track.None explicit.Taken to win and is the primary selection.
Riffa SpiritUnexposed, recent Polytrack winner against a subsequent winner.May need a bit more on nursery debut.Listed on the Spotlight shortlist.

3.15 Ben Woollacott Memorial Maiden Stakes (GBB Race) (Div I) (Class 5)

Distance: 1m (AW)
Going: Standard

RankHorse (TimeWise Master Rating)Running StyleTrainer (W-R)
1Indian Spirit (264 Total)P (Pressed leaders)G Boughey (63%)
2Redbud Sixteen (247 Total)L (Led)P Attwater (50%)

Recent Form and Supplied Comments

Indian Spirit
He made the frame in three maidens over 7f/1m on turf/Tapeta earlier this year. He ran fifth on his handicap debut in June and has been gelded since; he has been off for 108 days.

Redbud Sixteen
She stepped up significantly from her debut, being beaten only a neck at Ffos Las (1m, soft) last month. She is bred to handle the AW as both her siblings and dam won on the surface.

Spotlight Verdict

Few of these hold compelling claims. Redbud Sixteen is certainly a player having improved plenty from her debut when just beaten at Ffos Las last time, while she is bred to handle the AW. However, it may be worth giving NUTMEG another chance on stable debut if he can get back to anything like the form of his promising Southwell debut. Indian Spirit look much the best of the others.

Assessment of Chances

HorseStrengthsWeaknessesSuitability/Chances
Indian SpiritShowed promise on turf/Tapeta in the spring.Coming back from a 108-day break after being gelded; needs to rediscover earlier form.Looks much the best of the others mentioned by Spotlight, placing him highly despite the break.
Redbud SixteenHighly progressive after two starts, bred to handle AW.Only two career starts.Every chance of going one better if continuing her progress; considered a player.

3.45 Ben Woollacott Memorial Maiden Stakes (GBB Race) (Div II) (Class 5)

Distance: 1m (AW)
Going: Standard

RankHorse (TimeWise Master Rating)Running StyleTrainer (W-R)
1Panelli (261 Total)P (Pressed leaders)G Boughey (63%)
2The Hare Rail (238 Total)H (Held up)R Teal (70%)

Recent Form and Supplied Comments

Panelli
His form is inconsistent but he has finished runner-up in three of his seven starts, including here (7f) in January.

The Hare Rail
He has been placed in seven of his 11 starts, including three from four times on the AW. The longer trip should suit on breeding and cheekpieces are applied.

Spotlight Verdict

The unexposed My Fermoy and Panelli, who has finished runner-up here, make the shortlist. However, another chance if given to the expensive and beautifully bred RETURN TO UNIT who wasn’t able to show what he was capable of on his Windsor debut this month. Money for the nicely bred newcomer El Rehaiby would be interesting.

Assessment of Chances

HorseStrengthsWeaknessesSuitability/Chances
PanelliProven course experience (runner-up at 7f).Inconsistent form.Could play a part if producing his best form, making the Spotlight shortlist.
The Hare RailHighly experienced, consistently placed, good AW record (3/4 placed).Vulnerable to anything mildly progressive.Potential contender given suitability to AW and step up in trip, but overlooked by Spotlight in favour of unexposed rivals.

4.15 At The Races App Expert Tips Handicap (Class 4)

Distance: 1m (AW)
Going: Standard

RankHorse (TimeWise Master Rating)Running StyleTrainer (W-R)
1Run With It (311 Total)H (Held up)R Beckett (59%)
2City Of Poets (282 Total)H (Held up)J Tate (55%)

Recent Form and Supplied Comments

Run With It
He is bidding for a hat-trick after wins at Wolverhampton (8.6f) and Southwell (1m). He is 3-4 on Tapeta.

City Of Poets
He won over 7f here and at Wetherby earlier in the year. His chance was pulled away on handicap debut at Sandown (7f, good to firm) in July, and he has been off for 80 days.

Spotlight Verdict

The progressive RUN WITH IT (nap) can complete the hat-trick despite being 7lb higher and unproven on Polytrack. Spirit Of Leros (second choice) only went down by a short head on AW debut at Kempton last time and could build on that. The consistent Lady Manzor looks best of the others.

Assessment of Chances

HorseStrengthsWeaknessesSuitability/Chances
Run With ItHighly progressive, strong winning form (hat-trick seeking), 3-4 on Tapeta.Must carry 7lb extra and is unproven on Polytrack (this surface).Selected as the winner (nap), rated a major player despite surface concerns.
City Of PoetsCourse winner (7f).Needs to settle better if he is to see out the extra furlong (1m) after an 80-day absence.Needs significant improvement in temperament and stamina on his return.

4.45 attheraces.com/marketmovers Handicap (Class 6)

Distance: 5f (AW)
Going: Standard

RankHorse (TimeWise Master Rating)Running StyleTrainer (W-R)
1Rift Valley (224 Total)H (Held up)S Davis (IRE) (50%)
2Recon Mission (216 Total)H (Held up)A Carroll (52%)

Recent Form and Supplied Comments

Rift Valley
He is 0-10 but made an encouraging stable debut when third of 21 runners at Naas (5f, good) last month.

Recon Mission
He was held up from a wide draw and was disappointing over C&D 15 days ago. He is back off the same mark as when dead-heating here in April.

Spotlight Verdict

Despite being three times their age RECON MISSION is the selection. He is well drawn for a front-runner and is back off the same mark as when dead-heating over C&D in April. The main danger looks to be the returning Harry Brown whose record over C&D reads 233443, and he has a good record fresh. There is every chance one of the 3yos could take another step forward with Rift Valley perhaps the pick.

Assessment of Chances

HorseStrengthsWeaknessesSuitability/Chances
Rift ValleyEncouraging recent stable debut (3rd in large field), worthwhile booking of Tom Marquand.Maiden (0-10).Considered the potential pick of the 3yos and worth a second look.
Recon MissionBack on a C&D winning mark, well drawn if reverting to his usual positive tactics.Disappointed last time when held up.Chosen as the winner (primary selection).

5.15 Free Tips Daily On attheraces.com Handicap (Class 6)

Distance: 7f (AW)
Going: Standard

RankHorse (TimeWise Master Rating)Running StyleTrainer (W-R)
1Bear To Dream (227 Total)P (Pressed leaders)M Attwater (55%)
2Kondratiev Wave (225 Total)P (Pressed leaders)A Carroll (52%)

Recent Form and Supplied Comments

Bear To Dream
He has been largely running well lately, beaten only half a length here (1m) on his penultimate start. He finished fifth at Leicester yesterday.

Kondratiev Wave
He is a 1m course winner whose losing run is now 15. He is favourably treated on several bits of AW form, notably a neck defeat off 4lb higher at Wolverhampton (7f, Tapeta) in April.

Spotlight Verdict

Francisco and Bear To Dream come into this in better form than most and could figure. TRIGGERED is on an increasing losing run, but he has winning form over C&D and may find this race is run to suit. The main danger could be Kondratiev Wave who is well treated on several pieces of AW form from earlier in the year. Four-time C&D winner Mount Mogan is another to consider.

Assessment of Chances

HorseStrengthsWeaknessesSuitability/Chances
Bear To DreamIn good recent form (near miss here over 1m).Poor AW record (1-24), ran yesterday.Could figure based on current form.
Kondratiev WaveCourse winner, well handicapped compared to prior AW performances.Long losing run.Shortlisted, regarded as the main danger to the primary selection.

5.45 Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 Handicap (Class 6)

Distance: 1m (AW)
Going: Standard

RankHorse (TimeWise Master Rating)Running StyleTrainer (W-R)
1Rainbow Sign (236 Total)L (Led)M Pattinson (100%)
2Elvetham (233 Total)H (Held up)C Allen (50%)

Recent Form and Supplied Comments

Rainbow Sign
He won twice over C&D in 2022. He gained his first success since then at Brighton (1m, good to firm) earlier this month.

Elvetham
He is a maiden (0-12) but has finished runner-up in his last three starts. He finished second over C&D ten days ago, beaten less than a length, and is only 1lb higher.

Spotlight Verdict

With this easier 1m likely to suit her better Adace can reverse recent Chelmsford placings with Iftikhaar. But preference is for SEMSER who won over C&D last month before a good third over 7f back here. The main danger could be Elvetham who is gradually getting there having finished runner-up in his last three starts.

Assessment of Chances

HorseStrengthsWeaknessesSuitability/Chances
Rainbow SignC&D winner in the past, broke a long losing streak recently.Recent win was modest form, must back up from 3lb higher.Contender, though Spotlight preferred Semser and Elvetham.
ElvethamHighly consistent recent form (3 consecutive seconds), strong C&D runner-up effort last time, only 1lb higher.Maiden (0-12).Should go close with a repeat performance; regarded as the main danger to the primary selection.
