Night Tara
She has progressed with every start, culminating in a soft-ground win over 1m 4f off a 6lb lower mark 12 days ago. The extra half-mile (today’s distance) is not guaranteed on pedigree, but she shapes as though a stamina test will suit.
Eagle One
He has wins on soft ground, Polytrack, and Tapeta. He has a couple of runner-up finishes from three runs here and is entitled to have come on for his solid comeback from 11 months off four weeks ago. First-time cheekpieces are retained.
Spotlight Verdict
Eagle One’s Ffos Las win last summer came on his second run back from an absence and he’s entitled to have come on for his recent return from almost a year off. Progressive 3yo NIGHT TARA threatens to be suited by this stiffer test again, though, and can defy a 6lb rise.
Assessment of Chances
| Horse | Strengths | Weaknesses | Suitability/Chances |
|---|---|---|---|
| Night Tara | Highly progressive, recent winner off a lower mark, and shapes as though she will handle this stiffer stamina test. | Must defy a 6lb rise in the weights. | The primary selection and the one to beat. |
| Eagle One | Proven on Tapeta (today’s surface), placed twice previously here, and should be fitter following his recent comeback run after a long absence. | None explicit, but not preferred over the top-rated horse by Spotlight. | Expected to run well, having been entitled to improve from his recent return. |

Recent Form and Supplied Comments
Squadron Leader
He improved for the addition of cheekpieces/switch to nurseries when gamely winning an uncompetitive affair at Windsor seven weeks ago (6f, good).
Hello Isla
She finished fifth of 14 in a similar event over C&D 19 days ago. She has been dropped 1lb and still has time to do better.
Spotlight Verdict
Money for handicap newcomers Outspan and/or Kilkenny Warrior would look significant. As things stand, the most appealing options are Baybe Driver, Hello Isla and DAIZEN. Daizen still looked to be learning his craft when second at Thirsk last week and can go one better on his AW debut.
Assessment of Chances
| Horse | Strengths | Weaknesses | Suitability/Chances |
|---|---|---|---|
| Squadron Leader | Recent winner who showed improvement when fitted with cheekpieces. | A 4lb rise demands more, and this race appears stronger than his last win. | Considered a contender, but needs to find extra to defy the weight rise in this grade. |
| Hello Isla | Recent C&D experience, slightly better handicapped (down 1lb), and capable of improvement. | None explicit in recent form, although placed fifth last time. | Listed as an appealing option in an open field, and capable of doing better. |

|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Aleen (247 Total) | L (Led) | Sir M Prescott (67%) |
| 2 | Halla Bil Zain (246 Total) | P (Pressed leaders) | O Burrows (83%) |
Recent Form and Supplied Comments
Aleen
She is a half-sister to two 1m 4f winners (including one here) and should appreciate the extra furlong. She is now entering nursery company.
Halla Bil Zain
He ran better since handicapping in cheekpieces (off today), going close at Leicester before tending to over-race from the outside stall upped to this trip latest (Polytrack). He holds decent claims as long as he settles better this time.
Spotlight Verdict
This mark should be within range for HALLA BIL ZAIN if he settles better without the cheekpieces than on Polytrack last time. The progressive Marwaan is another to consider in a trappy looking nursery, along with Aleen.
Assessment of Chances
| Horse | Strengths | Weaknesses | Suitability/Chances |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aleen | Bred for this longer trip (1m) and comes from a yard with a strong recent strike rate (67%). | Needs to improve a touch on her three 7f turf efforts. | Considered a contender in this trappy nursery. |
| Halla Bil Zain | Holds decent claims based on previous solid handicap form (runner-up effort). The mark is considered within range. | Prone to over-racing when upped in trip on Polytrack; must settle better today (cheekpieces removed). | The preferred selection, provided he settles better without headgear. |

| 1 | Celestias Comet (272 Total) | H (Held up) | J Fanshawe (61%) |
| 2 | Cotiere (249 Total) | L (Led) | R Beckett (59%) |
Recent Form and Supplied Comments
Celestias Comet
She finished second in two runs for James Fanshawe in recent weeks, keeping on steadily at Kempton 18 days ago (AW debut). She is not fully exposed just yet.
Cotiere
She finished down the field on her debut last month but put that experience to good use when second of five at Wolverhampton (8.6f) three weeks ago. She remains capable of better.
Spotlight Verdict
Sundaysunrise makes a rather belated debut but she’s bred to be useful and is starting out at a realistic level. She is feared, but Celestias Comet and COTIERE come here on the back of good runs and the selection should be capable of further progress.
Assessment of Chances
| Horse | Strengths | Weaknesses | Suitability/Chances |
|---|---|---|---|
| Celestias Comet | Consistent recent form (two seconds), AW debut effort was solid, and is not fully exposed. | Likely more will be needed here to win. | Highly considered, coming here on the back of a good run. |
| Cotiere | Improved significantly on her second start, remains capable of better, and is highly rated by TimeWise. | Still relatively inexperienced (two runs). | The preferred selection, rated high on the list as she is capable of further progress. |

| 1 | Miraculous (310 Total) | L (Led) | R Varian (65%) |
| 2 | Brazen Bolt (270 Total) | P (Pressed leaders) | Mrs R Carr (52%) |
Recent Form and Supplied Comments
Miraculous
He achieved a ready win at Chester (6f, good) in July, and his best effort since was a second place at the same track 24 days ago.
Brazen Bolt
He achieved big-field 5f wins at York and Goodwood in July. Two runs since have been underwhelming, but the return to Class 4 company asks a less-demanding question of him, and he has won four times on Newcastle’s Tapeta.
Spotlight Verdict
All nine runners can have their case argued. True Promise lurks on a dangerous mark and can feature, but a chance is taken that the return to Class 4 company will see ZIGGY’S MISSILE bounce back to form. He has a good record over C&D and has won five of his seven handicap starts in this class.
Assessment of Chances
| Horse | Strengths | Weaknesses | Suitability/Chances |
|---|---|---|---|
| Miraculous | Recent form includes a win and a strong second place finish. | Has a bit more to prove over 5f (recently competed at 6f). | A strong contender, but might prefer a slightly longer trip. |
| Brazen Bolt | Proven on Tapeta, multiple turf sprint wins, and drops back to Class 4 where a revival is deemed quite possible. | His two most recent runs were underwhelming. | Considered a threat due to proven track/surface ability and class drop. |

| 1 | Muker (310 Total) | H (Held up) | N Tinkler (44%) |
| 2 | Mon Na Slieve (303 Total) | L (Led) | K A Ryan (43%) |
Recent Form and Supplied Comments
Muker
He won two 5f handicaps on turf this summer. He ran right up to his recent best when third over C&D four weeks ago and races off the same mark today.
Mon Na Slieve
He is a front-runner with two turf wins this season and ran a cracker over 5.4f at York’s Ebor meeting. He drops in class.
Spotlight Verdict
With Mon Na Slieve and Night On Earth in the field this looks sure to be well run and it could set up for one of the finishers. Cloud King isn’t fully exposed on AW and won with a bit to spare at Chelmsford last month, while the old man of the party Alligator Alley has been banging at the door on turf and his best effort came over C&D. MUKER ran a cracking race in a Racing League handicap here last month, though, and is marginally preferred.
Assessment of Chances
| Horse | Strengths | Weaknesses | Suitability/Chances |
|---|---|---|---|
| Muker | Proven C&D form (recent 3rd), races off the same mark today, and should benefit from the assured good pace. | None explicit. | Marginally preferred selection; likely to be involved in the finish. |
| Mon Na Slieve | Strong front-running style, high-class turf form (ran a cracker at York), and drops in class. | Still to convince he is as good on AW as he is on turf. | Expected to help set a strong pace and is a major contender if translating turf form to AW. |

| 2 | Miss Mendoza (259 Total) | P (Pressed leaders) | G Oldroyd (50%) |
Recent Form and Supplied Comments
Star Of Mali
He was strongly favoured (1-12) but managed to get turned over at Chepstow a month ago (first-time headgear, now removed). He has since been gelded and helps set the standard for a yard enjoying a fine spell.
Miss Mendoza
She started among the favourites for a stronger-looking race over C&D three weeks ago, when making a fair debut, and is entitled to improve.
Spotlight Verdict
Star Of Mali has been gelded since beaten at 1-12 at Chepstow a month ago and comes with risks attached. Leading Times wouldn’t need to be a world beater in order to make a successful debut, but MISS MENDOZA looks the safest option off the back of a decent C&D third three weeks ago.
Assessment of Chances
| Horse | Strengths | Weaknesses | Suitability/Chances |
|---|---|---|---|
| Star Of Mali | Sets the standard based on form ratings, comes from a successful yard, and has undergone a gelding operation that might aid focus. | Failed badly when heavily favoured recently and comes with risks attached. | A strong contender, but needs to overcome a recent flop. |
| Miss Mendoza | Made a decent C&D debut and is entitled to improve upon that run. | None explicit, but only rated marginally below Star Of Mali by TimeWise. | Selected as the safest option by Spotlight. |

Playtime
He won easily at Chester (1m 4f) ten days ago. A 9lb rise may be doable if he settles early, as he pulled way too hard in a first-time hood on his handicap/Polytrack debut last month.
Ribble Vibe
He is 0-6 since joining from Andre Fabre. His better effort came last time out at York, but he didn’t see out the 2m trip. He is considered back down in trip.
Spotlight Verdict
A handful are going over this far for the first time. Tryfan will be happier back on Tapeta, but this can go to RIBBLE VIBE, who showed more at York last time without quite seeing it out over 2m. Playtime has the most potential off the back of an easy Chester win but needs to settle better than he did at Lingfield last month.
Assessment of Chances
| Horse | Strengths | Weaknesses | Suitability/Chances |
|---|---|---|---|
| Playtime | High potential following an easy win; 9lb rise may be doable if he settles. | Must prove he can settle at this trip after pulling too hard on his prior AW handicap debut. | Considered a strong contender, but his temperament is a key factor. |
| Ribble Vibe | The step back down in trip (from 2m) is suitable, having run well recently despite fading late. | Still a maiden (0-6) for his current yard. | The preferred selection, expected to perform well at this distance. |

Recent Form and Supplied Comments
Both Of Us
He got off the mark at the eighth attempt at Brighton (1m, soft) eight days ago. He has a 6lb penalty and must back up that success on AW. He still holds strong claims.
Aoife’s Thunder
She is 0-9 but is knocking on the door having finished second three times, latest in a classified at Chelmsford (AW, 1m 2f) last month. She should be suited by the step back up in trip.
Spotlight Verdict
Recent winning form is hard to come by, so the obvious selection is BOTH OF US (nap), who got off the mark on soft ground at Brighton eight days ago. The danger is Aoife’s Thunder, who has hit the crossbar three times and must come into consideration once again.
Assessment of Chances
| Horse | Strengths | Weaknesses | Suitability/Chances |
|---|---|---|---|
| Both Of Us | Recent winner (off his maiden mark), in form, and holds strong claims despite the penalty. | Must prove his ability on AW (Tapeta) following a turf win, while carrying a 6lb penalty. | The preferred selection and obvious choice for the win. |
| Aoife’s Thunder | Highly consistent recent form (three seconds), indicating she is capable of winning soon, and the return to this trip is suitable. | Maiden (0-9). | Expected to be the main danger and must be considered. |
