Hobie
He has returned from a 13-month absence in fine form, winning twice at Worcester, first over hurdles and then securing his first success over fences 18 days ago. He raced with a tongue-tie added for these wins.
Gone In Sixty
He has resumed in decent fettle, gaining his first win at Fakenham over hurdles in June. Back over fences, he performed well when beaten only a neck at Stratford 17 days ago, suggesting he holds claims.
Spotlight Verdict
There should be more to come from HOBIE (nap) who returned from a long absence to win over hurdles before gaining his first chase success this month. The main danger is Gone In Sixty who was just denied his first chase win at Stratford last time. King Of The Story, who won twice at Worcester in July, could also figure if his recent pulled-up effort can be discounted.
Assessment of Chances
| Horse | Strengths | Weaknesses | Suitability/Chances |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hobie | In fine form (two recent wins) since returning from a long absence, recently recorded his first chase success. Expected to have more to come despite a 4lb higher mark. | Must prove he can maintain winning form after a 4lb rise. | Selected as the winner (nap). |
| Gone In Sixty | Resumed in decent form and ran a strong race (beaten neck) in his last chase outing. | Still looking for his first chase win this term. | Expected to emerge as the main danger. |

Soleil D’Arizona
She has made a bright start over hurdles, winning twice. She won over C&D in June by making all but was unable to repeat those tactics when fading into fourth at Uttoxeter in July. The tighter track at Warwick clearly plays to her strengths.
John Barbour
He is a bumper winner who landed the odds on his second hurdles start at Newbury (2m, good) in March. He has had wind surgery during the summer and looks set for a nice introduction to his second season. He should run well.
Spotlight Verdict
There is a danger that the free-running Soleil d’Arizona (second choice) could get away from these just like she did when making all here in June, but if she is kept tabs on then JOHN BARBOUR can pick her off and go on to land his second success over hurdles. Datsalrightcharlie could only beat what was in front of him on his hurdles debut and should also run well if he improves again.
Assessment of Chances
| Horse | Strengths | Weaknesses | Suitability/Chances |
|---|---|---|---|
| Soleil D’Arizona | Proven C&D winner whose front-running style suits this tight track. | Vulnerable if challenged or prevented from dictating the pace. Carries a 7lb penalty. | Feared contender, chosen as the second choice. |
| John Barbour | Bumper and hurdle winner, subsequent wind surgery suggests potential improvement; should be ready for the second season. | Carries a 7lb penalty for his previous hurdle win. | Selected as the primary choice to win. |

Hamlets Night
He has made a bright start over hurdles, winning readily last time in a first-time hood at Stratford (good). He performed to a useful level on the Flat. He is very much in the mix despite being penalised accordingly.
Jet Of Dreams
He is better known as a chaser these days and has been running well in that discipline this summer. This 2m trip is suitable, but he could be vulnerable on this belated return to hurdling.
Spotlight Verdict
The three previous winners over hurdles (including Hamlets Night and Squeezebox) are respected but they might be vulnerable under their penalties. BEAU QUALI‘s form is right up there with the best of these. Heart Over Head remains a good prospect despite a forgettable first run over hurdles.
Assessment of Chances
| Horse | Strengths | Weaknesses | Suitability/Chances |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hamlets Night | Recent winner (winning readily), useful Flat form background. | Carries a penalty. Might be vulnerable to unpenalised rivals with similar potential. | Very much in the mix but overlooked by Spotlight in favour of Beau Quali. |
| Jet Of Dreams | Highly successful recent chasing form; suitable trip. | Could be vulnerable returning to hurdling after focusing on fences. | Potential contender but likely vulnerable on this return to hurdling. |

Belle Montrose
She recently achieved her breakthrough victory over fences (2m, good), prevailing by a neck. She returns to hurdling off only 1lb higher and is still lightly raced.
Window Of Time
She has yet to win but placed again on her first run for Olly Murphy in a 2m maiden 18 days ago. She appeals as a likely contender and has been competitive off this sort of mark.
Spotlight Verdict
It was over fences that BELLE MONTROSE made her breakthrough 12 days ago but she’s only 1lb higher for this return to hurdling and she’s still lightly raced. Window Of Time is next best having only her second run for Olly Murphy. Tankardstown Diva hasn’t been with her current yard for too long either and she also merits attention.
Assessment of Chances
| Horse | Strengths | Weaknesses | Suitability/Chances |
|---|---|---|---|
| Belle Montrose | Recent winner, returns hurdling on a favorable mark (1lb higher). Still lightly raced. | Needs to confirm form back over hurdles. | Primary selection, expected to defy the small rise. |
| Window Of Time | Likely contender based on consistency and mark, backed by a yard enjoying a fine run of form. | Still a maiden (0 wins). | Next best selection, merits attention. |

| 2 | Ile De Jersey (327 Total) | P (Pressed leaders) | N Henderson (50%) |

Sail Away
He won well off 4lb lower at Aintree over 3m1f (good) in May. A 4lb higher mark is deemed not too damaging. His fitness is unlikely to be an issue.
Ile De Jersey
She is a useful hurdler/chaser. She did well to go down narrowly on her return to fences at Cartmel (2m5f, good), despite never moving with any purpose in that race. The ability is there to threaten off her current mark, and the long trip (unraced over this far) is worth a go.
Spotlight Verdict
None of the five can be dismissed with confidence. The former Willie Mullins-trained Horantzau D’Airy is preferred, having run well for a long way in the Summer Plate and finding this longer trip a better fit. Sail Away edges second preference ahead of the reliable Presentandcounting.
Assessment of Chances
| Horse | Strengths | Weaknesses | Suitability/Chances |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sail Away | Recent winner over a similar distance on good ground, fitness confirmed, and mark rise is manageable. | Only edges second preference in the Spotlight verdict. | Highly considered and expected to be competitive. |
| Ile De Jersey | Possesses the ability to threaten off her current mark. | She never moved with purpose in her last race; unraced over this far (3m 1½f). | The trip is an unknown, but she is considered worth trying over this distance. |

Jubilant
He is now 2-3 over fences after beating one other finisher at Worcester (2m7f, good). This performance was his career-best RPR, and he only went up 4lb.
Deep Purple
He has maintained his consistency over fences. He was second of 11 last time and races off the same mark here. He is noted as a trier when it matters.
Spotlight Verdict
Bumpy Evans is unlikely to hang about and could be tough to pass if avoiding mistakes. However, the safest option could be DEEP PURPLE who is always running on in his races. Smugglers Haven is third best.
Assessment of Chances
| Horse | Strengths | Weaknesses | Suitability/Chances |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jubilant | Strong chase form (2-3), achieved a career-best RPR recently, and has a manageable 4lb rise. | His recent win was against minimal competition (beating one other finisher). | Considered a strong contender, but perhaps riskier than Deep Purple. |
| Deep Purple | Highly consistent, proven trier, races off the same mark as his recent second place. | None explicit. | Selected as the safest option by Spotlight. |

My Gift To You
This 7yo is largely consistent and mixes hurdling with chasing. He has a very good 7-29 strike-rate over jumps. He won a chase off 3lb higher two starts ago and will be fine over today’s longer trip.
Belles Benefit
She won twice last year over staying distances (2m6f/3m1f). She appeared back in prime form in first-time blinkers this month, winning comfortably by 10 lengths.
Spotlight Verdict
The return to this C&D is sure to suit Prince De Juilley. However, preference is for RI NA CUIRTE, who returned from a break with a 3m2f win last autumn and can hopefully repeat that feat. Belles Benefit, My Gift To You and Jack’s Jury all seem likely to run well too.
Assessment of Chances
| Horse | Strengths | Weaknesses | Suitability/Chances |
|---|---|---|---|
| My Gift To You | Highly experienced with a strong jumps strike-rate, proven stamina, and competitive form. | Not the primary selection in the Spotlight verdict. | Expected to be in the mix and run well. |
| Belles Benefit | Recent comfortable 10-length winner, proving current good form and stamina. | Faces a challenging 7lb rise in the weights for her comfortable win. | Likely to run well despite the significant weight rise. |
