1.58 Elston Supports UK Financial Advisers EBF Mares National Hunt Novices Hurdle (GBB Race)

Class 4, 2m4½f, Good To Soft, 4yo+, Win: £4,629

RankHorse (Age)Master Total Rating (TimeWise)
1Herja (IRE) (5)310
2Kottayam (FR) (5)263

Herja (IRE) (Total Rating: 310)

  • Recent Form: Her last recorded run scored 100. She made amends for a fall at Bangor by winning from the front at Sedgefield (2m4f, good). She has since run second over 2m4f.
  • Supplied Comments: She is probably going the right way. She now has more on her plate here with a penalty.
  • Assessment:
    • Strengths: She is the top-rated horse in the field. She has proven winning form over this distance (2m4f).
    • Weaknesses: Must carry a penalty.
    • Suitability: The 2m4½f distance is suitable.

Kottayam (FR) (Total Rating: 263)

  • Recent Form: Her last recorded run scored 76. She has placed in her two completed starts over hurdles. Her form sequence includes a second place over 2m4f.
  • Supplied Comments: She couldn’t lay a glove on Herja at Sedgefield. She is considered vulnerable.
  • Assessment:
    • Strengths: She has placed form over the distance.
    • Weaknesses: Considered vulnerable against the main competition.
    • Suitability: The 2m4½f distance is suitable.

Spotlight Verdict: Kenisa Sport (second choice) has the best form but HERJA appears to be improving and both have strong chances with their penalties. The Russell and Scudamore yard have two interesting contenders, as Biglesisback is bred to be useful and she suffered interference when sent to Punchestown for her debut in a bumper. Her stablemate Mountain Molly showed enough at Ayr last time to believe she’ll also have some say in matters.

2.33 Centenary Silver Plate Novices Limited Handicap Chase (GBB Race)

Class 3, 2m4½f, Good To Soft, 4yo+, Win: £7,922

RankHorse (Age)Master Total Rating (TimeWise)
1Lightkeeper (IRE) (7)328 (Joint Top)
2King Roly (6)328 (Joint Top)

Lightkeeper (IRE) (Total Rating: 328)

  • Recent Form: His last recorded run scored 114. He reversed previous course and distance (C&D) form with King Roly when winning 17 days ago.
  • Supplied Comments: Won C&D under an aggressive front-running ride. He is clearly capable of going well again off just 4lb higher. His jumping was occasionally scary over his fences.
  • Assessment:
    • Strengths: Joint Top Rated. Proven C&D winner and race-fit. Has a manageable 4lb rise.
    • Weaknesses: His jumping had “the occasional scare”. He may be vulnerable if pressurised, as he recently got loose on the lead.
    • Suitability: Proven successful over C&D.

King Roly (Total Rating: 328)

  • Recent Form: His last recorded run scored 87. He finished second to Lightkeeper over C&D 17 days ago.
  • Supplied Comments: Closely matched with his old rival Lightkeeper. He would have got closer had he been cleaner over the last fence.
  • Assessment:
    • Strengths: Joint Top Rated. C&D winner and race-fit. Form is very closely matched with the top rival.
    • Weaknesses: Needs to jump cleaner to defeat Lightkeeper.
    • Suitability: Proven successful over C&D.

Spotlight Verdict: Inox Allen impressed over C&D in April and Chief Sunday was nicely progressive as a hurdler last season, yet they’ll need to be right on the ball after breaks to beat some race-fit opposition. Lightkeeper got loose on the lead when repelling KING ROLY here recently but the Elliott horse might be vulnerable if pressurised this time.

3.08 Perth Novices Limited Handicap Hurdle

Class 5, 2m½f, Good To Soft, 3yo+, Win: £4,225

RankHorse (Age)Master Total Rating (TimeWise)
1Top Flight Century (FR) (4)236
2Burning It Up (IRE) (5)229

Top Flight Century (FR) (Total Rating: 236)

  • Recent Form: His last recorded run scored 61. He won over C&D (2m4f, good) in July and has held his form pretty well since.
  • Supplied Comments: Fine over 2m. Has strong claims if the refitted cheekpieces (worn once on the Flat last year) have any positive effect.
  • Assessment:
    • Strengths: Top Rated. Proven course winner who has remained in good form. Handles the 2m trip.
    • Weaknesses: The effect of the refitted cheekpieces is a variable.
    • Suitability: The 2m trip is suitable.

Burning It Up (IRE) (Total Rating: 229)

  • Recent Form: His last recorded run scored 68. He finished second over 2m4f here on his handicap debut in April.
  • Supplied Comments: Promising effort on handicap debut; remains unexposed. This is his first run for five months.
  • Assessment:
    • Strengths: Unexposed potential demonstrated on handicap debut.
    • Weaknesses: Returning from a five-month break. The drop back to 2m may not be ideal, as his promising run was over 2m4f.
    • Suitability: The drop in trip (from 2m4f to 2m) may not be ideal.

Spotlight Verdict: Burning It Up was second over 2m4f here on his handicap debut in April and probably still has potential but he might be of greater interest when back up in trip and with this run behind him. TOP FLIGHT CENTURY has remained in good form since his course win in July and gets the nod in the hope he responds well to the refitted cheekpieces today. Clan Chieftain (second choice) and Nathan Wells also have possibilities, while Cosmic Soul is the dark horse.

3.43 Racing TV Profits Returned To Racing Handicap Chase (GBB Race)

Class 4, 3m, Good To Soft, 4yo+, Win: £5,281

RankHorse (Age)Master Total Rating (TimeWise)
1Sean Og (IRE) (7)273
2Upfordebate (IRE) (6)257

Sean Og (IRE) (Total Rating: 273)

  • Recent Form: His last recorded run scored 65. He finished fourth here 17 days ago (behind Everyday Champagne).
  • Supplied Comments: He loves Cartmel. He wants softer ground ideally.
  • Assessment:
    • Strengths: Top Rated.
    • Weaknesses: Failed to threaten recently at this track. He prefers softer ground than today’s Good to Soft conditions.
    • Suitability: Prefers softer ground.

Upfordebate (IRE) (Total Rating: 257)

  • Recent Form: His last recorded run scored 86. He beat six rivals over 3m at Hexham (good) recently.
  • Supplied Comments: His chase debut was forgettable. He is only 3lb higher than for his ridden-out success but his profile is up and down.
  • Assessment:
    • Strengths: Recent winner over this 3m trip on Good ground. Only 3lb higher than his successful run.
    • Weaknesses: Inconsistent (“up and down”) profile.
    • Suitability: Proven over this distance and ground.

Spotlight Verdict: A trappy race as most of these are prone to off-days. SAFE DESTINATION has been absent for a while but he has an admirable record over fences and his yard gets them fit at home. Cosmic Blizzard’s improvement has come in points but he’s joined a good yard for this return to rules action. Upfordebate is preferred of the remainder.

4.18 Every Race Live On Racing TV Handicap Hurdle (GBB Race)

Class 2, 3m½f, Good To Soft, 4yo+, Win: £11,882

RankHorse (Age)Master Total Rating (TimeWise)
1The Real Whacker (IRE) (9)350
2Imperial Data (IRE) (8)347

The Real Whacker (IRE) (Total Rating: 350)

  • Recent Form: His last recorded run scored 101. He is a high-class chaser, having won a Grade 1 novice at the Cheltenham Festival in 2023. He is unraced over hurdles since October 2022.
  • Supplied Comments: Unlikely to be at concert pitch for this seasonal debut but might still be too good for this field off his lower hurdle mark.
  • Assessment:
    • Strengths: Top Rated. Grade 1 chase winner with sufficient class to potentially outclass the field despite his absence.
    • Weaknesses: Seasonal debut, may lack fitness. Unraced over hurdles for a long time.
    • Suitability: The marathon trip (3m½f) is suitable for a top-class stayer.

Imperial Data (IRE) (Total Rating: 347)

  • Recent Form: His last recorded run scored 123. He is a progressive 8yo who has won two major races at Cartmel recently (2m6f/3m1f, good).
  • Supplied Comments: Latest 4lb rise does not look excessive. He arrives in excellent nick.
  • Assessment:
    • Strengths: Highly progressive with recent winning momentum over marathon trips. The 4lb rise is considered manageable.
    • Weaknesses: Needs to prove he can transfer his Cartmel form to the conventional Perth track.
    • Suitability: Proven successful over distances up to 3m1f.

Spotlight Verdict: The star turn on today’s card is Grade 1 chase winner The Real Whacker. Preference is for IDEM, who did well last season and could still have a bit more to offer if aided by first-time blinkers today. Imperial Data arrives in excellent nick but needs to prove he can transfer his Cartmel form to this very different track.

4.53 Paul Fergusons Jumpers To Follow Handicap Hurdle

Class 5, 3m½f, Good To Soft, 4yo+, Win: £4,225

RankHorse (Age)Master Total Rating (TimeWise)
1You Some Girl (IRE) (8)290
2The Flying Poet (IRE) (6)268

You Some Girl (IRE) (Total Rating: 290)

  • Recent Form: Her last recorded run scored 99. She recently won over a similar trip at Uttoxeter (good). She rattled off a hat-trick last November and appears to still be improving.
  • Supplied Comments: She is 4lb well in here (escaped a penalty for her recent win), and Charlie Maggs can claim his 5lb. Got herself back on track at Uttoxeter.
  • Assessment:
    • Strengths: Top Rated. In-form and improving, and exceptionally well-handicapped due to escaping a penalty and having a jockey claim.
    • Weaknesses: None specified in the sources regarding today’s conditions.
    • Suitability: Proven winner over a similar distance on good ground.

The Flying Poet (IRE) (Total Rating: 268)

  • Recent Form: His last recorded run scored 68. He was clear of the rest when finishing runner-up to the odds-on favourite at Worcester (2m7f, good) recently.
  • Supplied Comments: Lightly raced maiden but looks a winner waiting to happen. Has a big shout off the same mark as his recent second.
  • Assessment:
    • Strengths: Excellent recent form off this current mark. Clear indications he is highly capable and ready to win.
    • Weaknesses: Remains a maiden.
    • Suitability: The 3m½f trip is suitable, having run well over 2m7f.

Spotlight Verdict: The Flying Poet has obvious claims off the same mark as when chasing home a strong favourite at Worcester. However, YOU SOME GIRL (nap) got herself back on track at Uttoxeter and she’s well in here, having escaped a penalty and with Charlie Maggs now able to claim his 5lb.

5.23 Enough To Eat, Everyday PK Foodbank Handicap Hurdle

Class 5, 2m4½f, Good To Soft, 3yo+, Win: £4,489

RankHorse (Age)Master Total Rating (TimeWise)
1Kopa Kilana (IRE) (8)271
2Malangen (IRE) (10)232

Kopa Kilana (IRE) (Total Rating: 271)

  • Recent Form: His last recorded run scored 77. He posted a good effort when finishing a close second over C&D (good) this month.
  • Supplied Comments: Has not been with current stable long. He is only 1lb higher today and is a likely contender again. Seems very likely to be right in the thick of things again.
  • Assessment:
    • Strengths: Top Rated. Excellent recent C&D form (close second). Only 1lb higher, making him competitive.
    • Weaknesses: Is 0-24 over hurdles.
    • Suitability: Proven C&D form.

Malangen (IRE) (Total Rating: 232)

  • Recent Form: His last recorded run scored 50. He won by a massive margin at Market Rasen (2m4f, good) in July. He finished eighth over C&D (2m4f) recently.
  • Supplied Comments: Very well suited by this track. Not easy to predict nowadays. Can sometimes be difficult to reel in when he blasts off in front.
  • Assessment:
    • Strengths: Proven winner over this distance and track. Capable of strong front-running performances.
    • Weaknesses: Highly inconsistent and hard to predict. Recent run was poor.
    • Suitability: Proven over C&D.

Spotlight Verdict: Largely consistent 8yo Kopa Kilana posted a good effort when second over C&D 17 days ago… and seems very likely to be right in the thick of things again. However, he’s 0-24 over hurdles now and preference is for LIGHTNING FLASH, who has a mixed record since his novice win in spring 2024 but returns from his latest break on a good mark. Findthetime has dropped a long way down the weights this year and might also feature.
