Haydock Race Analysis (26th September 2025)

2.15 Racing To School Training Series Apprentice Handicap

(Class 5, 1m 2f 42y, Good To Soft, 4yo+, 9 runners)

Master Top Two Rated Horses (TimeWise Total):

  1. Ribble River (IRE) (4yo): 254
  2. Golspie (IRE) (5yo): 254
HorseRecent Form (LR-5LR)Supplied Comments
Ribble River (IRE)1, 4, 3, 6, 3Got his head in front for the first time since last year when taking a 14-runner amateur riders’ handicap here (11.5f, good) three weeks ago under Jack Callan’s brother. He is on a career-high mark but has not been overraced and should go well again.
Golspie (IRE)2, 9, 2, 1, 4Secured his first success since his winning debut in a Pontefract handicap (good) in June. He ran well in two of his three subsequent starts, including a second place at Newcastle (1m2f, AW) 18 days ago. He is creeping up the weights but is respected.

Spotlight Verdict:
Ribble River has solid claims of going back-to-back again although a 4lb rise does demand more, while Golspie is also creeping up the weights but similarly respected. Official ratings are no issue for Charencey, who’s threatening to cash in on a dangerous mark, but this can go to COTSWOLD COTTAGE (nap), who should appreciate the drop in trip. Poet’s Dawn continues to run with credit and is another to consider.

Race Statistics:

  • Age Groups: 4yo+ 1-1-6.
  • Fate of Favourites: Not explicitly listed for this race.
  • Trainers in this Race (w-pl-r): Not explicitly listed for this race.

Assessment of Master Top Two:

  • Ribble River (TimeWise Total: 254):
    • Strengths: Shares the highest rating. Recent course winner and generally runs well around this time of year.
    • Weaknesses: Running off a career-high mark after a 4lb rise.
    • Suitability: Highly suitable if he maintains his form despite the weight increase.
  • Golspie (TimeWise Total: 254):
    • Strengths: Shares the highest rating. Consistent performer recently, including on AW.
    • Weaknesses: Also rising in the weights.
    • Suitability: Respected contender, particularly strong on consistency and prior winning form.

2.50 Lee Thomas Christy Memorial EBF Novice Stakes (GBB Race)

(Class 4, 6f, Good To Soft, 2yo, 6 runners)

Master Top Two Rated Horses (TimeWise Total):

  1. Monarchs Gold (2yo): 306
  2. Night Mission (IRE) (2yo): 280
HorseRecent Form (LR-5LR)Supplied Comments
Monarchs Gold1, 0, 0, 0, 0A 550,000euros breeze-up purchase who decisively won an 11-runner Kempton novice (6f, AW) three weeks ago. The form of that race has been upheld by subsequent winners. Expected to have plenty more to come.
Night Mission (IRE)2, 7, 2, 7, 6A £16,000 yearling who defied 80-1 odds despite showing greenness when finishing second here (6f, good) three weeks ago. The winner of that race has subsequently won again, rating this a really encouraging first start.

Spotlight Verdict:
Night Mission made a bright start here three weeks ago and shouldn’t be long in getting off the mark, while Gentle George is respected after his Sandown win. This can go to the other penalty carrier, however, as MONARCH’S GOLD looked a good prospect at Kempton in a race that is working out. Hvar should know more this time, while market support for any of the three newcomers will need heeding.

Race Statistics:

  • Age Groups: Race limited to 2yo.
  • Fate of Favourites: Not explicitly listed for this race.
  • Trainers in this Race (w-pl-r): Not explicitly listed for this race.

Assessment of Master Top Two:

  • Monarchs Gold (TimeWise Total: 306):
    • Strengths: Highest rated and Spotlight selection. Extremely well-bred (550,000euros purchase) and won impressively on debut.
    • Weaknesses: Making his turf debut.
    • Suitability: Expected to be the classiest horse in the field, likely to handle the penalty and remains open to significant progress.
  • Night Mission (IRE) (TimeWise Total: 280):
    • Strengths: Achieved a high RPR on debut despite greenness, with the form boosted by the winner.
    • Weaknesses: Needs to overcome initial greenness.
    • Suitability: Considered a strong contender based on potential shown in his first outing.

3.25 Thomas Hardie Commercials 40th Year Anniversary Nursery

(Class 3, 5f, Good To Soft, 2yo, 8 runners)

Master Top Two Rated Horses (TimeWise Total):

  1. Dazzling Haze (2yo): 302
  2. Lil Brother (2yo): 280
HorseRecent Form (LR-5LR)Supplied Comments
Dazzling Haze1, 7, 1, 2, 3Off the mark on handicap debut in August. Regained the winning thread at Thirsk (5f, good) three weeks ago. Has a largely progressive profile but is up 6lb.
Lil Brother1, 6, 2, 0, 1Won a Nottingham novice (5f, good) in June. Disappointed over 6f here last month but put that right when dropping back to 5f at Windsor. Respected.

Spotlight Verdict:
None of these are confidently ruled out. The handicapper is asking Dazzling Haze (second choice) another question but she answered the last one positively and should go well again, while Lil Brother is also set a stiffer task but is respected after last time’s nursery win. However, there’s a suspicion ARMY BUGLER might have been running well despite quick ground and he gets the nod to show what he can do on this forecast easier surface. Clear Force, Concert and Stardinia also need a good second look.

Race Statistics:

  • Age Groups: Race limited to 2yo.
  • Fate of Favourites: 105343142.
  • Trainers in this Race (w-pl-r): K R Burke 2-1-6, Tom Dascombe 1-1-7.

Assessment of Master Top Two:

  • Dazzling Haze (TimeWise Total: 302):
    • Strengths: Highest rated. Progressive profile and handles the 5f distance well.
    • Weaknesses: Must carry a 6lb penalty.
    • Suitability: High chance based on recent winning form, designated as second choice by Spotlight.
  • Lil Brother (TimeWise Total: 280):
    • Strengths: Also a recent winner at 5f, showing immediate improvement after a sub-optimal run over 6f.
    • Weaknesses: Set a stiffer task by the handicapper.
    • Suitability: Strong contender, respected after his nursery win.

4.00 Castle Green Homes EBF Novice Stakes (GBB Race)

(Class 4, 7f, Good To Soft, 2yo, 9 runners)

Master Top Two Rated Horses (TimeWise Total):

  1. Gaurdman (IRE) (2yo): 256
  2. Ocean Of Storms (FR) (2yo): 224
HorseRecent Form (LR-5LR)Supplied Comments
Gaurdman (IRE)4, 0, 0, 0, 0Beaten favourite in two 6f events on fast ground. Has done enough to make him the form pick in this field. Pedigree gives mixed messages about the extra furlong.
Ocean Of Storms (FR)0, 0, 0, 0, 0Eventually well held over 7f at York; the race didn’t go entirely smoothly for him. May do better with the experience under his belt.

Spotlight Verdict:
This race features the first appearance of POKER, who was one of the top lots at Tattersalls Book 1 last October and could prove smart. Second choice behind that very interesting debutant is Aerial Silk, who looks likely to build on his C&D effort. Gaurdman is another form contender, while newcomer Master Of Entropy also has frame possibilities.

Race Statistics:

  • Age Groups: Race limited to 2yo.
  • Fate of Favourites: Not explicitly listed for this race.
  • Trainers in this Race (w-pl-r): Not explicitly listed for this race.

Assessment of Master Top Two:

  • Gaurdman (IRE) (TimeWise Total: 256):
    • Strengths: The highest rated runner on proven form.
    • Weaknesses: Has disappointed as favourite previously; suitability for 7f is questionable based on pedigree.
    • Suitability: A form contender, but may be overshadowed by the potential of the debutant, Poker.
  • Ocean Of Storms (FR) (TimeWise Total: 224):
    • Strengths: Has prior experience over the 7f trip.
    • Weaknesses: Poor bare result on debut, needing to improve significantly.
    • Suitability: Needs the initial outing to have brought him on substantially to feature.

4.35 By Eck Its Boddingtons Handicap

(Class 3, 7f, Good To Soft, 3yo+, 11 runners)

Master Top Two Rated Horses (TimeWise Total):

  1. Leadman (5yo): 296
  2. Persuasion (IRE) (8yo): 295
HorseRecent Form (LR-5LR)Supplied Comments
Leadman0, 8, 2, 0, 1Has plenty of ability but is not straightforward. Won at Newmarket in July (7f, good to firm). This race is easier than his last start, but he requires luck in running.
Persuasion (IRE)2, 0, 4, 7, 8Blows hot and cold but showed good form with a recent second over C&D (good). His C&D record is excellent, reading 132212.

Spotlight Verdict:
Flag Of St George is better than he showed at Newcastle five weeks ago and he could take some pegging back now returned to 7f. Leadman is more than capable of winning a good prize but he does need everything to fall right and perhaps PERSUASION will have his measure. Although the Barrons’ 8yo has struggled for consistency, he has yet to run a poor race over C&D and a repeat of his latest second here would give him solid claims.

Race Statistics:

  • Age Groups: 3yo 1-1-4, 4yo+ 1-3-13.
  • Fate of Favourites: 26.
  • Trainers in this Race (w-pl-r): Steph Hollinshead 1-0-1, Alice Haynes 0-1-1, Jane Chapple-Hyam 0-1-1.

Assessment of Master Top Two:

  • Leadman (TimeWise Total: 296):
    • Strengths: Highest rated. Won recently in July and is dropping slightly in class.
    • Weaknesses: Consistency is a concern, and requires a clear run.
    • Suitability: Suitable distance/class, but his temperament requires caution.
  • Persuasion (IRE) (TimeWise Total: 295):
    • Strengths: Extremely reliable over the C&D (never run a poor race here) and was a close second recently. Spotlight selection.
    • Weaknesses: Known for inconsistency elsewhere.
    • Suitability: Highly suitable based on his course form; a major contender.

5.10 PMJ Capital Property Finance Handicap (GBBPlus Race)

(Class 3, 1m 6f, Good To Soft, 3yo, 6 runners)

Master Top Two Rated Horses (TimeWise Total):

  1. Klassleader (3yo): 324
  2. Arabian Poet (3yo): 319
HorseRecent Form (LR-5LR)Supplied Comments
Klassleader1, 2, 7, 4, 6Recorded a useful RPR in July at Doncaster. Won off a cramped odds at Ffos Las (1m4f) last month, looking better the further he went. This step up in trip is surely a positive on his handicap debut.
Arabian Poet1, 2, 4, 7, 4A 1,000,000gns yearling. Progressed through qualifying runs and readily fought off a challenge to win his handicap debut at Kempton (1m4f, AW) last month. The 5lb rise is considered a footnote for this unexposed sort who will relish the step up in trip.

Spotlight Verdict:
An interesting event in which none of the six can be ruled out. Gentle Warrior (second choice) is thriving at this trip and commands huge respect in the hat-trick bid, while Klassleader must be feared on his handicap debut up in distance. Respiro Solitario could well make the classier types roll up their sleeves but the vote goes to ARABIAN POET, who was off the mark last time and can improve again now tackling further. Sing Us A Song is by no means one to give up on.

Race Statistics:

  • Age Groups: Race limited to 3yo.
  • Fate of Favourites: 326112015.
  • Trainers in this Race (w-pl-r): Andrew Balding 1-1-5, Charlie Appleby 1-1-3, Ralph Beckett 1-1-3, William Haggas 1-1-3.

Assessment of Master Top Two:

  • Klassleader (TimeWise Total: 324):
    • Strengths: Highest rated. Progressive and suited by the increase in distance on handicap debut.
    • Weaknesses: Winning debut felt workmanlike rather than dominant.
    • Suitability: Strongly feared contender based on potential at this new distance.
  • Arabian Poet (TimeWise Total: 319):
    • Strengths: Spotlight selection. Highly progressive, unexposed, and bred to relish this longer distance.
    • Weaknesses: Recently penalised 5lb.
    • Suitability: Looks a major player who is likely to continue improving over this trip.

5.40 100% Racing TV Profits Back To Racing Handicap

(Class 5, 1m 6f, Good To Soft, 4yo+, 11 runners)

Master Top Two Rated Horses (TimeWise Total):

  1. Letmebetheboss (IRE) (4yo): 241
  2. Corsican Caper (IRE) (5yo): 241
HorseRecent Form (LR-5LR)Supplied Comments
Letmebetheboss (IRE)4, 6, 4, 3, 8Won at Bath (1m5f, soft) a year ago. Went back-to-back on AW (1m6f/2m) across May and June. Lesser effort at Kempton three weeks ago, but not ruled out on this return to turf.
Corsican Caper (IRE)4, 4, 6, 4, 3On a losing run since winning at Chester (2m, heavy) a year ago. Was beaten 7l at Bath (1m6f, soft) recently. He is on a handy mark and is due to drop 2lb.

Spotlight Verdict:
This is a little murky, with Roland Garros, who is still second choice, and Alpine Stroll both holding sound claims on their latest runs while also needing to back them up. In the circumstances it’s worth taking some encouragement that CORMIER is finally putting three runs together and he’s certainly handicapped to play a part if building on his last start. There’s potential for one or two others to light up the market so that needs monitoring closely.

Race Statistics:

  • Age Groups: 4yo+ only (implied by race type).
  • Fate of Favourites: 63112.
  • Trainers in this Race (w-pl-r): Philip Kirby 1-0-1, Lisa Williamson 0-1-1.

Assessment of Master Top Two:

  • Letmebetheboss (IRE) (TimeWise Total: 241):
    • Strengths: Shares highest rating. Proven winner on soft turf and consistent AW form over staying trips earlier in the year.
    • Weaknesses: Recent effort was poor at Kempton.
    • Suitability: Well-suited to staying trips, needs to translate recent AW fitness back to turf.
  • Corsican Caper (IRE) (TimeWise Total: 241):
    • Strengths: Shares highest rating. Now on a handy mark and due a 2lb drop, suggesting relief from the handicapper.
    • Weaknesses: Currently on a losing run; beaten 7l recently at Bath.
    • Suitability: Potential if market support suggests a return to form, but others (like Spotlight’s choice Cormier, rated 224) may hold stronger current claims.
