Clonmel Race Analysis (November 6th, 2025)

Race 1: 12.37 Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden Hurdle (2m 3f 134y)

RankHorseTrainerJockeyTimeWise Master Top Two
1I Am Lorenzo (IRE)Paul NolanS W FlanaganYes
2KovanisG ElliottJack KennedyYes (tied 2nd with Le Kap based on RPR/TS)

Recent Form and Comments

  • I Am Lorenzo (6yo): Showed a “quite smart level of form” when finishing runner-up in two of his three maiden hurdle runs for his previous trainer last season. He finished strongly when only just denied over 2m4f at Leopardstown (good-to-yielding). His final start last season was a heavy defeat on softer ground in a Grade 1 novice at Leopardstown, and he has been absent since (278 days). He returns for a new yard that has been producing maiden hurdle winners recently.
  • Kovanis (5yo): He is a point-to-point winner who immediately got off the mark under rules in a Leopardstown bumper last Christmas (yielding). He subsequently struggled on soft-heavy conditions in April at Fairyhouse. On his hurdles debut last month (2m1f Punchestown maiden), he finished a creditable third, showing he was “bit outpaced and shaping as though this longer trip will suit”.

Spotlight Verdict

Just denied over this trip at Leopardstown last season for Gavin Cromwell, I AM LORENZO looks the one to beat on his return to action for Paul Nolan. Kovanis and Le Kap look the main dangers.

Race Statistics

  • Age Groups (W-P-R): 5yo 8-13-91, 6yo 2-6-29, 7yo 0-0-7.
  • Fate of Favourites: 102121F311.
  • Trainer Records (W-P-R): Gordon Elliott 2-4-10, Henry De Bromhead 1-5-12, Eugene M O’Sullivan 0-2-4.

Assessment of the Top Two

  • I Am Lorenzo (Strengths): Holds the best existing form for this type of race, having finished strongly when nearly winning over 2m4f previously. He is with a yard in good form with maiden hurdle winners. He is considered the one to beat if he reproduces his best.
  • I Am Lorenzo (Weaknesses): Returning from a long absence (278 days). Needs to show he handles the ground better than his last outing (on softer ground).
  • Kovanis (Strengths): Has winning experience in a bumper and PTP. His hurdles debut suggested that this longer trip (2m31/2f) will suit him.
  • Kovanis (Weaknesses): May struggle if conditions are very soft/heavy. He is conceding weight to most of the field.

Race 2: 1.12 Connolly’s RED MILLS Irish EBF Auction Maiden Hurdle (2m 157y)

RankHorseTrainerJockeyTimeWise Master Top Two
1Scope To ImproveH De BromheadDarragh O’KeeffeYes (tied 1st with Themanintheanorak based on RPR/TS)
2ThemanintheanorakE O’SullivanJ J SlevinYes (tied 1st with Scope To Improve based on RPR/TS)

Note: Scope To Improve and Themanintheanorak hold the joint-highest total rating of the experienced runners based on maximum RPR/TS, although Themanintheanorak’s official Master RPR is lower than Scope To Improve, they were selected as the TimeWise Top Two.

Recent Form and Comments

  • Scope To Improve (5yo): He was an impressive point-to-point winner. He was the clearcut winner of a Naas bumper in December (good to yielding). In April, he was down the field in a Grade 2 Aintree fillies bumper, having been too keen and hampered. He is expected to be the one to beat on his hurdles debut in what looks like a weak maiden.
  • Themanintheanorak (5yo): Was a surprise winner of a 2m4f Listowel bumper in June (good). However, his two subsequent maiden hurdle runs have been ordinary. He is “likely more one for handicaps and over further”.

Spotlight Verdict

Absent since down the field, having been badly hampered, in an Aintree bumper in April, Henry de Bromhead’s SCOPE TO IMPROVE could take some beating now switched to hurdles.

Race Statistics

  • Age Groups (W-P-R): 4yo 1-7-30, 5yo 2-2-21, 6yo 2-2-11, 7yo 1-0-3.
  • Fate of Favourites: 1212P5.
  • Trainer Records (W-P-R): Gavin Cromwell 1-1-2, Gordon Elliott 1-1-3, Henry De Bromhead 0-2-3, P M J Doyle 0-1-2.

Assessment of the Top Two

  • Scope To Improve (Strengths): Brings Grade 2 bumper form to this race and is thought to be in a weak enough maiden for his hurdles debut. He has a strong winning profile in PTP and bumpers.
  • Scope To Improve (Weaknesses): Returning after 215 days off. Has shown tendency to be too keen.
  • Themanintheanorak (Strengths): Recent bumper winner (June).
  • Themanintheanorak (Weaknesses): His initial hurdle runs have been ordinary. He is believed to be better suited to longer trips and handicaps, making the current trip (2m 157y) questionable.

Race 3: 1.47 Clonmel Oil Service Station Handicap Hurdle (3m)

RankHorseTrainerJockeyTimeWise Master Top Two
1Rising Dust (IRE)Emmet MullinsD MeylerYes
2Grange Walk (IRE)John Patrick RyanMichael KenneallyYes

Recent Form and Comments

  • Rising Dust (7yo): Has been highly progressive since returning from a year off in September for his new stable. He finished second at Kilbeggan before winning consecutive races at Listowel and Punchestown. He shrugged off a 12lb rise for the second win and is a “strong staying type”. He is up another 10lb but is still considered “at the right end of the handicap”.
  • Grange Walk (10yo): Versatile, with four wins over fences and two over hurdles. He recorded hurdle wins in April and was runner-up twice in handicap hurdles in August. He was last seen finishing a fair third in a handicap chase a month ago.

Spotlight Verdict

Despite having gone up a total of 22lb for wins at Listowel and Punchestown, Rising Dust has strong prospects. However, INTENT APPROACH may have derived enough benefit from his Listowel return to thwart the hat-trick seeker. The versatile Grange Walk may get into the money.

Race Statistics

  • Age Groups (W-P-R): 4yo 0-1-1, 5yo 1-0-1, 6yo 0-1-1, 7yo 0-0-3, 8yo 1-2-4, 9yo 0-0-7, 10yo 0-0-2.
  • Fate of Favourites: P6.
  • Trainer Records (W-P-R): No specific trainers provided in the table.

Assessment of the Top Two

  • Rising Dust (Strengths): Proven recent form, having won two consecutive races despite major rises in the weights (total 22lb rise). Strong staying ability over 3m. Holds strong prospects.
  • Rising Dust (Weaknesses): The accumulated weight rise may eventually catch up, and he is up another 10lb here.
  • Grange Walk (Strengths): Consistent recent form over hurdles and fences (placed in last three starts). Versatile and likely to be competitive for a place finish.
  • Grange Walk (Weaknesses): A 10yo veteran. May lack the progressive profile needed to beat younger, in-form rivals like Rising Dust.

Race 4: 2.22 T.A. Morris Memorial Irish EBF Mares Chase (Listed Race) (2m 4f 171y)

RankHorseTrainerJockeyTimeWise Master Top Two
1Spindleberry (IRE)W P MullinsP TownendYes
2Bioluminescence (IRE)Gavin Patrick CromwellM P WalshYes

Recent Form and Comments

  • Spindleberry (7yo): Holds smart hurdles form and is 3-3 over fences last season. Her wins include a mares’ Listed event and a Grade 1 victory against geldings at Fairyhouse.
  • Bioluminescence (7yo): Was a dominant winner of a 2m6f Grade 2 mares’ novice chase at Limerick last Christmas and finished a clear second in a 3m1f Grade 3 at Naas. She previously lost comprehensively to Spindleberry in a Listed chase at Fairyhouse, though she was conceding 10lb on that occasion.

Spotlight Verdict

An interesting rematch of a Listed chase at Fairyhouse last season in which subsequent Grade 1 winner SPINDLEBERRY beat Bioluminescence comprehensively. On 12lb better terms, Gavin Cromwell’s is unlikely to be a pushover but may have to settle for second again.

Race Statistics

  • Age Groups (W-P-R): 4yo 1-0-1, 5yo 0-3-5, 6yo 4-2-17, 7yo 3-2-20, 8yo 1-2-14, 9yo 1-1-6.
  • Fate of Favourites: 1111111314.
  • Trainer Records (W-P-R): W P Mullins 6-1-12.

Assessment of the Top Two

  • Spindleberry (Strengths): Proven Grade 1 winner and remains unbeaten over fences (3-3). Sets a strong standard.
  • Spindleberry (Weaknesses): Concedes 12lb to Bioluminescence compared to their previous meeting, making the weight situation tighter.
  • Bioluminescence (Strengths): Dominant Grade 2 winner and Grade 3 placed. Enjoys a 12lb swing in the weights from their previous encounter, meaning “in theory not much between her and Spindleberry at the weights”.
  • Bioluminescence (Weaknesses): Was comprehensively beaten by Spindleberry when they last met.

Race 5: 2.57 Clonmel Oil Chase (Grade 2) (2m 4f 171y)

RankHorseTrainerJockeyTimeWise Master Top Two
1Il Etait Temps (FR)W P MullinsP TownendYes
2Gentleman De Mee (FR)W P MullinsM P WalshYes

Recent Form and Comments

  • Il Etait Temps (7yo): A top-class novice chaser who won three Grade 1s last season. He made an “impressive return for a career-best” in winning the Grade 1 Celebration Chase at Sandown in April, jumping really well. He goes well fresh and seems suited by better ground.
  • Gentleman De Mee (9yo): Has recorded significant wins, including a 2m1f Grade 1 contest. He won the 2m5f Topham Chase at Aintree in April. He subsequently finished a creditable fourth in the Grade Oaksey Chase at Sandown.

Spotlight Verdict

So impressive at Sandown in April, after a year’s absence, IL ETAIT TEMPS clearly goes well fresh and this looks a good opportunity on seasonal return, although conceding 9lb to stablemate and Topham winner Gentleman De Mee is no easy task.

Race Statistics

  • Age Groups (W-P-R): 6yo 2-2-8, 7yo 3-1-8, 8yo 2-4-12, 9yo 3-0-15, 10yo 0-0-5, 11yo 0-0-1, 12yo 0-0-1.
  • Fate of Favourites: 1131121111.
  • Trainer Records (W-P-R): W P Mullins 7-1-13.

Assessment of the Top Two

  • Il Etait Temps (Strengths): Top-class Grade 1 winner who achieved a career-best performance on his seasonal return last year, indicating he goes well fresh. Regarded as the one to beat.
  • Il Etait Temps (Weaknesses): Concedes 9lb to his stablemate, Gentleman De Mee. He seems suited by better ground.
  • Gentleman De Mee (Strengths): Grade 1 and major handicap (Topham Chase) winner. Receiving 9lb from Il Etait Temps, which “could make a race of it”.
  • Gentleman De Mee (Weaknesses): Needs to be sufficiently forward on his seasonal return.

Race 6: 3.32 Prior Park Service Station Clonmel Handicap Chase (2m 1f 50y)

RankHorseTrainerJockeyTimeWise Master Top Two
1Ballycashin (IRE)Anthony MullinsMiss A McGuinnessYes
2Onefortheditch (IRE)E F GallagherDarragh O’KeeffeYes

Recent Form and Comments

  • Ballycashin (8yo): Recently secured his second course win over hurdles two weeks ago. He is rated 116 over hurdles.
  • Onefortheditch (7yo): Has been consistent lately, making the frame in six of her last seven races (mixing hurdling and chasing). She finished third behind Kobalt St Georges two weeks ago.

Spotlight Verdict

With Anna McGuinness again claiming 7lb, BALLYCASHIN (nap) has a good chance of adding to a recent handicap hurdle at this venue. Kobalt St Georges came good here two weeks ago but is not guaranteed to confirm form with third-placed Onefortheditch.

Race Statistics

  • Age Groups (W-P-R): 5yo 0-0-3, 6yo 0-3-9, 7yo 3-2-22, 8yo 0-2-8, 9yo 0-1-4, 10yo 1-2-8, 11yo 0-0-2, 12yo 1-1-2, 14yo 1-0-1.
  • Fate of Favourites: 241041.
  • Trainer Records (W-P-R): Gavin Cromwell 1-0-1, John Patrick Ryan 0-1-2.

Assessment of the Top Two

  • Ballycashin (Strengths): Is able to exploit a 16lb lower chase mark compared to his current hurdles mark. His rider claims 7lb, and he holds positive course form. Considered the likeliest winner (nap).
  • Ballycashin (Weaknesses): Recent victory was over hurdles, not fences.
  • Onefortheditch (Strengths): Highly consistent and in-form, regularly reaching the frame. Has a “fair chance” of reversing the form with a recent rival on revised terms.
  • Onefortheditch (Weaknesses): Needs to reverse the recent placing with Kobalt St Georges.

RankHorseTrainerJockeyTimeWise Master Top Two
1Grandy Lane (IRE)Gavin Patrick CromwellMr D G LaveryYes
2Lord Lackendarra (IRE)Patrick BreenMr P BreenYes

Recent Form and Comments

  • Grandy Lane (5yo): Showed nothing in two PTPs, but was a “different proposition” on his hurdle debut (tongue-tie fitted) at Sligo in April, finishing second by only a head over 2m4f. He is now making his debut for Gavin Cromwell.
  • Lord Lackendarra (7yo): Is well exposed in bumpers, having been placed twice from nine attempts. He unseated his rider at the first fence in a maiden hurdle here last time.

Spotlight Verdict

This looks likely to boil down to a match. Slight preference is for Gigginstown’s former Gina Andrews-trained point winner PANJANDRUM over Grandy Lane, who has joined Gavin Cromwell since taking second in a maiden hurdle at Sligo in April.

Race Statistics

  • Age Groups (W-P-R): 5yo 5-9-47, 6yo 3-3-18, 7yo 0-0-1.
  • Fate of Favourites: 111123P3.
  • Trainer Records (W-P-R): Gordon Elliott 3-2-9, C Byrnes 0-1-1.

Assessment of the Top Two

  • Grandy Lane (Strengths): Was highly effective (second place) when tried in a tongue-tie and stepped up in trip (2m4f) in April. Now represents leading trainer Gavin Cromwell.
  • Grandy Lane (Weaknesses): The bare form of his previous second is considered moderate. The Spotlight suggests Panjandrum is slightly preferred in the likely match.
  • Lord Lackendarra (Strengths): Brings significant bumper experience (9 attempts, 2 placements).
  • Lord Lackendarra (Weaknesses): Considered well exposed in bumpers. Unseated last time out. He requires first-time cheekpieces to produce improvement simply to reach the money. He has a significantly lower rating than many rivals.
