Recent Form and Comments
Classical Creek: This horse is identified as the yard’s (Gordon Elliott) main hope and the Spotlight Verdict’s selection. No detailed recent form figures were provided in the excerpts, but the trainer’s representative status suggests high regard.
Fillyoureye (IRE): This 5yo is related to high-class bumper winner and smart hurdler/chaser Colreevy. On bumper debut, the horse was too keen, but showed improvement three months later at Kilbeggan on better ground, running clear late on. Should make an impact hurdling.
Spotlight Verdict
Gordon Elliott has won this race in three of the last four years and could hold the ace here with CLASSICAL CREEK, although fellow bumper winner Fillyoureye could pose a big threat if handling the conditions. The most interesting of the newcomers is Agameoftwohalves, a stablemate of the selection.

Classical Creek
Highly respected as the trainer (Gordon Elliott)’s main hope and Spotlight selection. Elliott has a dominant record in this race.
Lack of explicit recent form details in sources.
Strong—Elliott excels in this race type.
Fillyoureye (IRE)
Excellent pedigree, showing clear improvement in bumpers. Represents W P Mullins (0-1-3 in this race type).
There is a slight concern over whether the horse will handle the Soft to Heavy ground conditions.
Good—High potential, but ground is a slight question mark.

Pauls Dream (IRE): No detailed recent form figures are provided for this horse in the excerpts, but it recently ran at Cheltenham before departing at the second last hurdle.
Killinure Lass (IRE): This 8yo (OR 110, RPR 116) is on a career-high mark following her fifth hurdles win at Tramore last month. She subsequently found a better quality contest at Thurles too much, failing to make an impact.
Spotlight Verdict
A lot in with chances, but the tentative nod is given to WATCHING THE CLOCK, who was let down by her jumping at Punchestown, but perhaps this trip can help her hurdling and put her in the mix. Paul’s Dream was not a forlorn hope at Cheltenham when departing at the second last, but softer conditions pose a question for her. Plunkett Street and It’s Not Over Yet are also suggested.
Gordon Elliott 1-4-17, Gavin Cromwell 0-3-5, Henry De Bromhead 0-1-3. (Trainer records for Anthony Mullins and J P Dempsey are not specified in the race history table).

Balko D’Ange (FR): This 5yo (OR 123, RPR 129) won at Limerick off 9lb lower last December. He shaped well on his return at Tipperary last month (4th place) but was disappointing and well beaten at Down Royal last time.
Ragmans Corner (IRE): This 6yo (OR 126, RPR 128) is running off a career-high mark. He previously won over this C&D in September (off 8lb lower). His latest run at Down Royal (2m1f, yielding) was moderate.
Spotlight Verdict
None of them jump off the page here, so although COLONIA VICTORIA looks like further will suit better perhaps she can get away with it here in these testing conditions. Scalpnagoon is the choice of Jack Kennedy, having shown ability previously. Lambay Island looks like the most promising of the De Bromhead duo.

Has shown winning ability off a lower mark and hinted at returning form recently. Trainer Philip Fenton has a 14% recent strike rate (1-7).
Ran disappointingly when well beaten last time out.

Ragmans Corner (IRE)
Proven C&D winner. Trainer Gerard Keane has a 0% recent strike rate (0-4) but a 7% strike rate over two years.
Running off a career-high mark and recent moderate performance.
Moderate—Needs to overcome an unfavourable mark and bounce back from recent form.

Ill Sort That (IRE): This 5yo (TS 122, RPR 140) won impressively in a Listowel maiden hurdle in September. He subsequently ran keenly when stepped up in trip last time, but still won (by 3l over Ma Jacks Hill). The previous form of this horse has been emphatically franked by subsequent handicap winner Letos.
Whimsy: This 6yo (TS 141, RPR 146) holds a solid RPR of 146. She made a promising seasonal return, finishing 2.5l second in a C&D handicap in September. She then put in a solid effort behind the promising Love Me Tender in a Tipperary Grade 3 novice hurdle.
Spotlight Verdict
I’ll Sort That is nonetheless the one they have to beat and the step back to 2m can help after he ran keenly last time. However, he is taken on with ACE BRANNIGAN (nap) who comprehensively beat subsequent Brown Lad winner Letos in the course of his maiden hurdle victory at Tipperary and can continue his winning streak. The choice of Jack Kennedy, Ma Jacks Hill, is 4lb better off with I’ll Sort That from last time.

Strong form in maiden hurdles with subsequent winner franking the performance. The step back to 2m should suit this keen runner. Trainer D Queally has a perfect recent record.
Ran keenly when stepped up in trip last time.
High—A leading candidate, suited by the likely testing conditions and drop in trip.
Whimsy
Holds the highest RPR (146 master) of the field. Consistent and proven solid effort in Grade 3 company previously.
May lack the sheer talent of leading rivals in this grade. Spotlight favours Ace Brannigan.
Good—Solid yardstick capable of placing if others underperform.

The Yellow Clay (IRE): This 6yo (RPR 162) was a high-class novice last season, winning a Grade 1 and finishing a clear second in a Grade 1 at Cheltenham. His season ended disappointingly when taking a heavy fall at the last in the Champion Novice at Punchestown (while held in third).
Maxxum (IRE): This 8yo (RPR 157) is an eight-time winner, including two Grade 2 contests last season. He is a strong stayer and handles testing ground well. However, he was well held in this specific event last year on his seasonal return.
Spotlight Verdict
THE YELLOW CLAY looks the one to beat, having been a high-class novice last season. Jetara is selected as second choice, having finished fourth in this race last year and returning on the back of recent wins. Colonel Mustard is third on the list.
Was well held in this race when returning last year.
Moderate—Likely needs to show improvement on previous seasonal debut performance in this specific race.

Marine Nationale (IRE): This 8yo (RPR 173 Master) is the reigning 2m champion chaser. He progressed well last season, culminating in a wide-margin victory in the Champion Chase at Cheltenham and beating Captain Guinness by 6l at Punchestown. He begins this season as the one to beat.
Dinoblue (FR): This 8yo mare (RPR 177 Master—highest in the race) has eight wins from 16 chase outings. Her notable wins include the Grade 2 Liberthine Mares’ Chase at Cheltenham and a 2m4f Grade 2 Punchestown mares’ contest.
Spotlight Verdict
MARINE NATIONALE is the one to beat after the way in which he finished last season, even though he was below his best on last season’s return to action. Previous winners Captain Guinness and Found A Fifty deserve respect, while last year’s second Solness and the mare Dinoblue are noted.

Dinoblue (FR)
Highest master RPR (177). Receives a weight allowance from the geldings. Finished last season strongly with three successive wins in Grade 2 company.
Takes on specialist 2m gelders over a distance potentially shorter than her best.

Kopek Des Bordes (FR): This 5yo (1/3 odds) is unbeaten in a bumper and won his first three hurdle attempts last season. He ran in Grade 1 novices’ hurdles at Leopardstown and Cheltenham. He is listed as the favourite at 1-2.
Its Bilbo (FR): This 4yo is a French recruit who won a Punchestown maiden hurdle on his yard debut last year. He has raced twice since over 2m.
Spotlight Verdict
KOPEK DES BORDES looks the standout among the second-season novices, even if he needs to give his fences more respect. Lovely Hurling is the second choice, as he should make an even better chaser.

JET TO MONTE CARLO is preferred, having been purchased for 200,000GBP following a 14l point-to-point success. Ziso is the preferred Gordon Elliott runner.
