St Irene made all in a steadily run Listed mares’ novice hurdle, dictating from the front and always doing enough when asked after the last. With no real pressure applied, the race developed into a sprint from two out, a scenario that suited the winner perfectly.
Lady Tadita and Al Fonce filled the places but were unable to close the gap in a finish that never truly tested stamina, a view supported by a time 4.66 seconds outside standard on good ground. The remainder were well held in what proved a tactical rather than searching contest.
The result was clear-cut on the day, but the overall depth of the race looked limited and the form may not be as strong as the Listed label implies.
