A deep renewal of the Ballymore where proven form, not potential alone, is likely to decide matters. Naas is a fair, galloping track and this trip places equal emphasis on jumping, pace control and stamina, especially on yielding ground.
The market revolves around Saint Baco (FR), who created a strong impression when winning his maiden at Navan. He travelled well, jumped soundly enough despite a few novicey errors, and looks a natural for this step up in trip. That said, this is a big leap from maiden company to Grade 1, and he’ll need to sharpen up to justify favouritism.
Sortudo (IRE) sets a solid benchmark. A commanding maiden hurdle winner at Cork, he brings strong bumper form and has already mixed it at the highest level. His ability to travel and quicken gives him a major chance if this turns tactical.
I’ll Sort That (IRE) is the form horse. He arrives on a winning streak, including a Grade 3 success, and has consistently posted top-level figures. He’s tough, battle-hardened, and his experience could be crucial if this becomes a proper test from a long way out.
Classical Creek (IRE) is an intriguing contender for Gordon Elliott. A decisive Navan maiden winner over this trip, he shaped like a horse with plenty more to give and looks built for Grade 1 novice company. Less exposed than most and open to sharp improvement.
Others such as Frankie John, Fruit De Mer, and Letos have ability but need to step forward significantly to trouble the principals.
Verdict:
This looks a clash between raw class and hardened form. Saint Baco may have the highest ceiling, but I’ll Sort That brings the strongest evidence at the level and looks decent eachway shout at around 9/1, with Sortudo and Classical Creek serious dangers in what promises to be a high-quality novice contest.
