3.00 Taunton – 26 February Landlords Raceday Handicap Hurdle

·

2m3½f | Class 3 | Good ground | 10 runners

A competitive mid-range handicap where course form and fluency at Taunton look key. The track favours horses that travel comfortably and hold a position, and with no obvious tearaway pace, this could turn into a race decided by timing rather than stamina.

Celtic Art (FR) stands out on recent evidence. He arrives here off a Taunton win last time, has an excellent record at this time of year, and remains fairly treated in the handicap. He handles good ground, carries weight well, and has already shown he can cope with the demands of this track. Everything about his profile suggests another bold showing.

American Sniper (IRE) is a familiar and reliable presence around Taunton. He has placed here multiple times and rarely runs a bad race under similar conditions. While he doesn’t win often, he is usually there when it matters and looks well suited to a strongly run Class 3.

Him Malaya (FR) is another with proven course credentials. He continues to knock on the door in handicaps and drops to a workable mark. On good ground and with a useful claim, he looks capable of getting involved again, particularly if the leaders go a stride too soon.

At the head of the weights, Brave Knight has ability but faces a stiff task conceding weight all round, particularly given his stronger form comes left-handed. Benvoy (IRE) and Breezethroughlife (IRE) are less exposed and could improve again, but both have something to prove at this trip and level.

Overall, this looks a race where solid, proven Taunton form should prevail over potential. If the ground remains good and the tempo honest, expect those with course experience to dominate the finish.
