A tight but classy six-runner Grade 2 where stamina, jumping under pressure and handling soft ground will decide it.
Wade Out sets the standard. Unbeaten over fences (2/2), a Listed winner at Cheltenham, and now rated 145. He’s proven at 3m, handles soft well, goes left-handed, and Olly Murphy/Sean Bowen is a combo that keeps delivering. Not the slickest jumper at times, but he finds plenty when it matters and looks the most solid option if holding his rhythm.
Moon Rocket is the obvious danger. Lightly raced, progressive, and shaped well in defeat at Doncaster last time when just denied. His best form is at 3m on good-to-soft, and Warwick should suit his galloping style. Still looking for a Grade 2 breakthrough, but his ceiling is high.
Doyen Quest brings toughness and track form into play. A Warwick winner, consistent at the level just below this, and ran well when second in a stronger Grade 2 at Sandown. He stays 3m well but does tend to flatten out late in these higher-grade races.
Laurens Bay is honest and stays, but his Sandown run behind Wade Out and Doyen Quest suggests he needs others to underperform to win. Likely to plug on for minor money.
Hollygrove Cha Cha is fascinating. A mare with a big engine, unbeaten on soft/heavy over fences, and a Grade 2 winner already. The jump to 3m against seasoned geldings is the big question, but if she settles and jumps cleanly, she’s not here to make up numbers.
The Jukebox Kid is still learning. Capable on his day, but this is a sharp rise in class and he probably needs more experience at the trip.
Verdict:
Wade Out is the most complete package and deserves to be favourite. Moon Rocket is the main threat if stepping forward again, while Hollygrove Cha Cha adds intrigue if her stamina holds.
Likely shape: Wade Out to outstay them, Moon Rocket chasing him home, with Doyen Quest grinding into third.
