The Morning Brew:

Tuesday, 20th Jan 2026

Morning everyone. Hope the week has kicked off alright for you.

If you were watching the 7:00 at Wolverhampton last night, you saw a bit of a procession. But as always with the racing, the result chart only tells half the story. I’ve had a proper look at the numbers and the sectionals this morning, and there are a few things worth noting for your tracker.

The Wolves Debrief (19:00)

The Winner: Addarella She absolutely bolted up, didn’t she? 12/1 was a lovely price if you were on. The data shows she ran to a rating of 71, which is massive for this grade. She was allowed to dictate the pace (those sectionals show she conserved energy perfectly), but honestly, she looks like she’s just better than this lot. Even with a penalty, she’s one to keep on side while she’s in this mood.

The “Unlucky” Loser: Water Of Leith You’ll see plenty of people saying he should have won. He got stopped in his run, had to switch, and finished strongly for 2nd. He’s the obvious “eyecatcher.” But be careful. My ratings have him on a 61 for that run. He picked up the pieces when the race fell apart behind the winner. By all means, back him, but wait for a track with a long straight like Newcastle where he can wind up without getting blocked.

The Hidden Gem: Brave Empire This is the one nobody else will be talking about. He finished 5th, beaten by over 3 lengths. Looks boring, right? Wrong. Look at the weights. He was carrying 9-9 (top weight), effectively giving lumps of weight away to the younger horses. My figures have him running to a 65—that’s actually the second-best performance in the race. He was carrying the grandstand and still ran a solid race.

  • The Advice: Next time he drops in class or doesn’t have to give away a stone in weight, he is going to pop up at a big price. Put him in your notebook.

One to Swerve: Zoulu Warrior He went off favourite and finished 4th. The stats are pretty clear now: he’s a “Class 6 hero” who hits a glass ceiling in Class 5. Until the handicapper drops him a few pounds, leave him alone.
