Seven three-year-olds over the minimum trip. Average mark 78. No hiding place at this level and no soft fractions if they go hard early.
This is a pace-driven race.
The Shape
Grey Horizon, Filly Foden and Baker Blue have all led recently. None are habitual hold-up types. In a small field over 5f, that creates early pressure rather than a steady crawl.
Grey Horizon has stall 1 and the natural speed to hold the rail. That is a positive, but he is stepping out of Class 5 company and his recent wins have not been achieved off standout speed figures. He’s progressive, but this is tougher.
Filly Foden arrives off two wins and has been aggressive from the gates. However, those came in lower grades. She now meets stronger opposition and is drawn wider, which may force her hand early.
Baker Blue is the highest-rated in the field (OR 87) but has had multiple chances in similar company and found little late on. His mark looks workable rather than generous.
The Closers
If the front trio take each other on, the race tilts towards something sitting just off the speed.
Flash Rascal fits that description. He has been finishing well in recent 5f handicaps, including a narrow defeat here last time. His run comments repeatedly show late headway. He does not need to lead and is tactically flexible from stall 2.
Fortification is consistent but lacks a decisive turn of foot. He often travels well and flattens out.
Justmyluck won at Newcastle but the overall figure profile is steady rather than progressive.
Duskaura tops the raw ratings on historical data but returns from 186 days off and has no recent all-weather evidence. That makes her difficult to support with confidence.
The Angle
This is unlikely to be a case of one horse dominating from the front without pressure. Three natural pace angles in a seven-runner 5f handicap usually means honest fractions.
In that scenario, efficiency late is crucial.
Verdict
Flash Rascal looks the most solid option. He has current course form, a consistent finishing profile and does not depend on getting his own way in front.
If Grey Horizon controls the rail cheaply he becomes dangerous, but the race setup suggests a stronger late finisher may have the final say.
