This should be run properly. Timeform flags a strong pace, and the profiles back it up: Dancing Jeremy is a habitual front-runner, with Rockbrook and Pride Of Place happy to sit close. That matters at Thurles over 2m2f because you want a horse that can hold a position without burning fuel. If they go hard early, the key is prominent but covered, not tearaway.
That’s why Cappucino makes the most sense as the improver. Timeform’s pace note explicitly points to him prospering, and the handicap debut angle off OR 112 gives him room to step forward. His best chasing run came when second to Rockbrook at Tramore, and this looks set up for a similar stalking ride, especially with the tongue-strap back on. He doesn’t need to find a miracle, just a bit more efficiency and one cleaner jump at the wrong time for those ahead.
Rockbrook is the solid yardstick and the most straightforward to back. He tops the HRB totals (183.8), is improving, and arrives off recent wins. He’s the one most likely to run to his mark again. The downside is price: he’s near the head of the market because there isn’t much guesswork about what you’ll get.
The awkward one is The Electrical Kid. De Bromhead’s handicap chase debut stat is a plus, and the drop back in trip is logical, but Timeform calls him free-going and suggests he could be inconvenienced by the expected pace. In a strongly run handicap, that can be the difference between travelling and finishing.
After that, you’re into horses with questions. Glenashling is interesting on handicap chase debut and could progress, but he’ll need to be sharper late than he has been. Prince Of Air has C&D form but comes with obvious baggage. Plenty of the rest look exposed, unreliable, or both.
Verdict: Pace should be strong, so I want the stalker rather than the sprinter. Cappucino has the right setup and the most upside; Rockbrook is the solid benchmark; The Electrical Kid is talented but has to settle to justify the price.
