Leicester 2.50 — DJ “Johnno” Memorial H’cap Chase (Class 5, 2m6f151y, soft, 7 runners)🏇⤵️👇

·

This is the sort of Leicester chase where position matters. Timeform call the pace weak and say prominent racers are usually favoured here. In a small field on soft ground, that often turns the race into a contest between those who can hold a handy spot and jump accurately, rather than a pure stamina test.
Delgany Deadline is the obvious starting point. He’s still unexposed over fences (only two chase runs shown) and his Sedgefield second reads well without needing excuses. He led, kicked on after 2 out, and only got headed late, posting RP88 / TS81. That’s strong evidence for this level and backs up the idea he’s ahead of his mark. The drop back in trip is a plus on the same evidence: he didn’t fold, he just didn’t finish it off at the end of a longer slog. If he’s ridden prominently again, the setup is tailor-made.
The market danger is Just In A Bit, and it’s not hard to see why. HRB have him top on speed (59.26) and he ran RP91 when third at Hereford on his return. The problem is tactical. He tends to be ridden cold, and Timeform are explicit: a steady pace helps Delgany Deadline at the likely expense of Just In A Bit. If they crawl and sprint, he could be doing too much too late again.
Leicester specialists can’t be ignored. Nine Nine Nine has both career wins here and ran RP92 when second over C&D five weeks ago, which is rock-solid in context. He’s reliable at this track, but you’re paying for it in the price and he’s not obviously well-in. Ronnies Reflection is another C&D operator and last year’s winner of this race. He shaped well enough when second at Lingfield (RP89/TS77). He’s on a workable mark and won’t need much improvement to hit the frame, but he’s not screaming “blot”.
Of the rest, the evidence is thinner. Italian Spirit has been eased in the weights but the recent Leicester run (heavy) still reads as a horse outpaced when it mattered. The Brickey Ranger has repeatedly failed to see it out in this sort of test. John W Creasy has had chances this season and still has to prove this trip properly in current form.
Bottom line: with the pace expected to be steady and prominent racing favoured, this sets up for a front-end operator. Delgany Deadline looks the one with the clearest blend of race-shape, profile, and hard numbers to justify favouritism. Just In A Bit is the talent, but he may be tactically trapped. Nine Nine Nine and Ronnies Reflection are the solid Leicester pair for place back-up if you’re building a shortlist.
