This is a small-field novice where the market has done most of the heavy lifting for you. There’s a very clear pecking order and it’s hard to argue with it.
The race in one line
If Tales Of Bravery runs to his Uttoxeter win, the rest are playing for second.
Why Tales Of Bravery looks the winner
He’s the only runner here with a proper piece of hurdle form at this level.
At Uttoxeter over 2m on soft he made all and went clear, which tells you two things: he’s got ability and he can control a race tactically. In a seven-runner field round Ludlow, that matters. Add in his OR of 123 (miles ahead of what most of these have achieved) and the TimeWise ratings having him clear top, and you’ve got a favourite who actually deserves to be one.
He’s short because he should be.
The only credible threat: Burano Murano
Burano Murano is the one horse with upside. He won a maiden hurdle at Huntingdon on heavy, travelling prominently and seeing it out well. He also gets weight from the favourite and has a useful 3lb claim on top.
But the key point is this: he’s stepping out of a maiden into a novice where the favourite has already posted a much stronger performance. He can improve again, but he needs to find a chunk.
The rest
You can pick holes in all of them quickly:
Jet Steel was pulled up behind Tales Of Bravery last time. That’s the bluntest line you’ll ever need.
Lord Chamberlain was beaten a long way on hurdle debut and had a breathing issue noted. Hard pass.
Magna Patch, Lady Blackmore, Jacquette haven’t shown enough under Rules to suggest they’re landing a race like this on soft.
How it’s likely run
Tales Of Bravery has already shown he can go forward and dictate. If he gets into a rhythm, this turns into a test of whether anything can lay up with him — and on what we’ve seen, they can’t.
Verdict
Tales Of Bravery wins.
Straightforward. The race revolves around him and Burano Murano is the only one with a realistic shot at making it competitive.
